Cops nab foreigner suspected of sexually assaulting woman in Penang

PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested a foreigner for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at the parking area of an apartment in Bayan Lepas, Penang. Timur Laut police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the 24-year-old suspect was caught by members of the public at the scene of the incident. He said a video of the man in question had been shared widely on social media. 'Police received a report from a 38-year-old local woman about the incident at 12.45am on Tuesday. 'Our investigation found that the incident occurred at 11.15pm on Monday, in which the complainant had allegedly been molested by a male suspect at the parking area of an apartment,' he said. Rozak said the suspect is being remanded to aid an investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault with intent to outrage modesty. 'The investigation paper will be completed and referred to the deputy public prosecutor as soon as possible. 'The police would like to thank the public for helping them catch the suspect red-handed,' he said.

GEORGE TOWN: A viral video alleging that a foreign national molested a woman in Bayan Lepas has drawn widespread public attention and prompted swift police action. Northeast district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, confirmed that police received a report from the 38-year-old victim on Tuesday. She claimed she was groped on the breast by the suspect in the parking area of an apartment complex in Bayan Lepas at about 11.15pm on Monday. "The 24-year-old foreign suspect was apprehended by members of the public at the scene and handed over to the authorities. "He is currently being held in remand as investigations proceed under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which covers assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty," he said in a statement today. Rozak said the investigation paper would soon be completed and referred to the deputy public prosecutor for proposed charges.

Police arrest man for alleged molestation in Bayan Lepas
GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old foreign man who allegedly molested a woman near an apartment in Bayan Lepas. A video of the suspect being confronted recently went viral online. George Town OCPD ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad reported that the arrest followed a police report lodged by the 38-year-old victim at about 12.45am on Tuesday. According to Abdul, the woman claimed the suspect groped her breast during the incident at about 11.15pm on Monday (June 2). "We have arrested the suspect following the report, and he is currently being remanded to assist in investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging a person's modesty. "The case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action once investigations are completed," he said on Thursday (June 5). Abdul also confirmed that police were acting on the viral video showing the suspect being questioned and expressed appreciation for the public's assistance in apprehending the suspect.

Police track down cable theft suspect, seize vehicle in Sungai Petani
GEORGE TOWN: A swift police operation to track down a suspect involved in the theft of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) cables led to the seizure of a pickup truck in the Permata Hill Park residential area in Bedong, Sungai Petani, Kedah, early this morning. Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at around 3.44am when police received information about a cable theft at Flat Taman Nusantara here. "A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene and found that the vehicle, believed to have been used by the suspect, had fled towards Lebuhraya Tun Lim Chong Eu. "A patrol car managed to locate and pursue the suspect's vehicle from the entry ramp of the first Penang Bridge heading towards Seberang Prai, before the suspect accelerated onto the North-South Expressway heading north," he said in a statement today. Abdul Rozak said police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect refused to comply and continued to flee. "The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch beside the Permata Hill Park residential area in Bedong. "The suspect then fled into a nearby forested area. "An inspection of the vehicle found several tools believed to have been used to cut cables, as well as several cut cables in the back of the vehicle," he added. Abdul Rozak said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. Police are actively tracking down the suspect.

Penang cops on hunt for cable thief who fled on foot after car chase
GEORGE TOWN: The police are on the lookout for a suspect who fled the scene during a cable theft that resulted in a car chase to the mainland. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred when they received a call at 3.44am on Wednesday (June 4) about a (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) cable theft at the Taman Nusantara Flats in George Town. "Police personnel that responded to the call discovered a pick-up truck which fled from the scene, heading towards the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. "The police patrol vehicle was able to track the suspect's vehicle and pursued it from the entrance of the Penang Bridge heading towards Seberang Perai. "The suspect's vehicle then fled towards the North-South Highway, heading north. "Police personnel tried to stop the suspect's vehicle but the suspect did not obey the police officers' instructions," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 4). ACP Abdul Rozak said in the end, the suspect's vehicle skidded into a ditch in Bedong, Sungai Petani, Kedah. "The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled into the nearby jungle area. "We have seized the suspect's vehicle and upon inspection have found that there was a cable cutter and several cables that had been cut at the back of the vehicle. "We are investigating this case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and are tracking down the suspect," he said.
