You Can't Skip the Latest Step in Florida's Driver's License Process
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a new law requiring anyone at least 15 years old to complete a driver's education course to receive a learner's permit. Students had previously faced less stringent mandates by only needing to complete traffic law and substance abuse education classes. Florida's new law, taking effect July 1, also requires teens seeking a license to receive parental approval, complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course, and pass a vision and hearing test along with a written driver's exam, according to NBC. Drivers can apply for a license after driving with a permit for one year or when reaching 18, whichever comes first, if they receive no moving violations and log 50 hours of driving experience with an adult 21 or older, 10 hours of which must be at night. Some schools, including Florida Virtual, already offer driver education for permits, but many dialed back the program years ago to save money, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Debbie Adams, Principal of Driver's Education at Florida Virtual School, said: "The legislators really got this right. They really took the time talking with each other and [are] really taking a look at the dangers that we are facing in the state of Florida along our roads," The Mirror US reports. Many Florida high schools offer driver's education, but there isn't enough space for every student. Florida Virtual School offers driver's education for free and is the state's largest driver's education provider, with 55,000 enrolled students, many of whom can't find a spot in their local school. Defensive driving and hazard prevention are among the program's core skills. In May 2024, 205,000 Florida teens aged 15-19 were driving with a learner's permit, according to The Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition. In 2022, Florida teen drivers were involved in 56,091 crashes, resulting in 345 fatalities and 1,945 serious injuries. Nationally, teen drivers in 2022 were involved in 1,477,694 crashes, resulting in 7,639 deaths and 439,271 serious injuries. The Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition cites an NHTSA study highlighting how teens are two and a half times more likely to engage in potentially risky behavior when driving with another teenager vs. alone, and this likelihood increases to three times with multiple teen passengers. Seat belts weren't worn in one-third of the fatalities and serious injuries involving these drivers. In 2023, Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) noted a 1.93% decline in 15-19-year-old driver crashes in the state but a 0.92% increase in this age group's traffic fatalities. Incapacitating injuries for 15-19-year-old drivers decreased 8.05%, and other injuries went down 2.92%. While some states, such as Kentucky, have been loosening certain requirements for young drivers, the general trend in recent years has been toward stricter laws. On March 11, a new Kentucky law lowered the state's age to obtain a learner's permit from 16 to 15. Additionally, young Kentucky drivers only need to hold a permit for six months before applying for an intermediate license. However, since February, New Jersey has implemented a 50-hour supervised driving requirement for permit holders until age 21, after previously having no policy. North Carolina is even stricter with a 60-hour supervised driving requirement. Florida's law, which took effect on July 1, is the most recent example of the U.S. states tightening young driver laws. Anara's struggling mum Nadia Messaoud, 41, who dated Fisayo for a year before they split in 2022, said she was forced to take action after being ignored. She took civil action against Chelsea defender Tosin for funding his brother while allegedly knowing of his sibling's obligations. Advertisement Legal documents relating to the civil action, seen by The Sun, state: 'The defendant (Tosin) has been knowingly providing his older brother, Fisayo Adarabioyo, with an income that is not being declared to HMRC or the child maintenance service. 'This is with the intention to obstruct my daughter's legal right to obtain child maintenance. 'My child has for the last three years been awarded the nil level of CMS.' Nadia also alleged that as well as thousands of pounds a month in cash income, Tosin also provides his brother with a credit card to spend on. Advertisement According to Land Registry documents, Tosin, 27, thought to be on £120,000 a week at Chelsea, owns the Cheshire mansion in which Fisayo lives. The Department of Work and Pensions has awarded unemployed Fisayo a "nil rate" on child support for the past three years because he claims he does not earn enough to pay. Nadia staged a protest outside Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium last month to raise awareness around her cause. She wore a vest top and held a sign both of which said: 'TOSIN #4 Women Matter, Children Matter, D.A (Domestic Abuse) survivors matter.' Fisayo was convicted of harassment without violence in 2022 after turning up at Nadia's terraced home in Cheshire, banging on her door and leaving her terrified. He also bombarded her with texts, saying he hoped she miscarried the baby and threatened to kill her. After allegedly failing to respond to Nadia's legal claim, his brother Tosin has been ordered by the court to pay her £11,000. Advertisement However, Tosin's legal team told The Sun the order was a "default judgement" made in error "on the part of the court". Nadia said: "I've not received a penny from Fisayo to help with our daughter, while he's living a footballer's lifestyle thanks to his Chelsea playing brother. "I've been rebuffed at every opportunity which is why I decided to take legal action against both of them. "All I ever wanted was a reasonable level of financial support but Fisayo has claimed poverty. Now I know the truth. Tosin's lawyers' statement added: "The Order arises from a default judgement which has been entered by the Court in a claim issued by Nadia Messaoud against our client ('the Claim'). Unfortunately, it would appear that our client's strike out application has not been properly processed by the Court and it has therefore allowed automatic default judgement to be entered in favour of Ms Messaoud. "This is a very serious administrative failing on the Court's part and one which we are addressing with the Court on our client's behalf. "Your summary is not a fair and accurate report of anything that has taken place in the Court proceedings." They added that as well as "chasing" the court, they have also made an application on their client's behalf "to have the default judgement order set aside". "In summary therefore, the Order which you have seen is subject to an active challenge, and should never have been issued by the Court in the first place." Diddy's ex returns to court after tearful admission about drug-fuelled sex
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex-girlfriend has returned to court today to resume her testimony for day 17 of the rapper's lengthy trial. At the Manhattan federal court, the anonymous 'Jane Doe' – a moniker assigned for her safety – yesterday spoke of her time with the media mogul and their "hotel nights", in which he allegedly welcomed other men into their bed. She also claimed she was always offered drugs when she had sex with Combs. and that they took ecstasy, molly, cocaine, and ketamine. Sean 'Diddy' Combs, 55, is currently facing a number of serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution. He was arrested in September and strongly denies all allegations made against him. He has been in prison since his arrest, and a number of bail requests have been rejected. According to her, he typically brushed off the request. One such incident was captured on video, which recorded a conversation between Jane, Combs, and a man named Don. In the footage, Jane could be heard asking Don to use protection - until Combs stepped in, clearly disapproving of the idea. During questioning by prosecutor Maurene Comey, Jane was asked why she felt the need to get Combs' permission for condom use. Her voice wavered as she replied that she was 'still trying to process' that reality. She explained that she didn't push the issue, because upsetting Combs wasn't an option. 'Unhappy,' she said, is how he would be if she insisted. When asked why there was a recording of the night, Jane responded: 'Because Sean liked recording me and the entertainers.' In her testimony, Jane recounted a trip she took to Las Vegas with Diddy sometime in 2023. According to her, she traveled aboard Combs' private jet, and the pair spent what she described as a 'hotel night' together. During the proceedings, Jane confirmed that she had sexual relations with an 'entertainer.' She elaborated on this term during her testimony, explaining that 'entertainers' referred to various men she was instructed to sleep with at Combs' request. Jane also revealed the language Combs would use when referring to her. She testified that he often called her a 'freak,' using phrases like 'he wants his freak.' When asked what that meant, Jane explained it was his way of telling her he expected her to be 'wild and sexual.' Diddy's ex-girlfriend 'Jane' - who is using a psudonym to protect her identity - is back on the stand. Her testimony with the prosecution will now resume. Diddy's ex-girlfriend 'Jane' appeared in the witness box for the first time on Thursday. The beginning of her testimony came after that of Cassie Ventura's friend Bryana Bongolan, who invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to self-incriminate. Bongolan was cross-examined by the defense over her claims Diddy dangled her over a balcony for around 15 seconds. She previously told the court that she still has nightmares from the incident and is seeking $10million in her lawsuit against Diddy. Bongolan had also claimed that Diddy gave her drugs a few times. When asked by the defense if she was lying, Bongolan insisted she testified truthfully during the case and said she acknowledged she didn't recall every detail. However, in the closing the redirect examination, she said she had "no doubt" that Diddy held her over the balcony. Prior to Jane's appearance on the stand, Judge Arun Subramanian reprimanded Diddy for attempting to interact with the jury. 'I could not have been any clearer in terms of what I said,' the judge told him. 'Well, there was a line of questioning when your client was nodding vigorously and looking at the jury." He was assured the behaviour wouldn't continue. Jane then took to the witness stand, claiming she was "head over heels" with Combs and that they were in an open relationship until his arrest. She told the court that Combs paid her rent, but suggested that he would stop if they split.

Child critically injured after stabbing in St. Landry Parish
ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. (KLFY) – St. Landry Parish authorities are investigating an attack on a 6 year old child. Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz told KLFY News, 'On June 1, 2025, deputies received a call of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Hwy 31 in the Leonville area. Upon arrival, a 6-year-old child was found to have multiple lacerations and stab wounds to the face, neck and chest area.' The child was transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a Baton Rouge Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities arrested Patrick Seth Greene, 37, of Opelousas. He is charged with Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and Resisting an Officer. He's being held in the St. Landry Parish Jail.
