Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian was jailed 12 months for overstaying in the State for more than a year. Farno Thomas pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain after the charge was read to him. Advertisement Farno was arrested on April 26 this year at the bus stop in Jalan Kemabong, Tenom, after his Temporary Work Visit Pass was found to be valid only until July 10, 2023. He was charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, on conviction. The court ordered him to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department. Meanwhile, six illegal immigrants were jailed four months for entering the State without valid passes. Five of them were arrested at an entertainment outlet in Inanam on April 27, this year while the other one was detained at a house in Kg Ulu Liawan, Keningau on April 29, this year. All the accused failed to produce their identification documents during inspection conducted by the Immigration personnel at the said areas. The offence falls under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and may also include whipping. The court also ordered all the illegals referred to the Immigration Department for further action after serving their respective prison sentences. Labuan blitz nets 20 illegal workers

LABUAN: The Labuan Immigration Department detained 20 undocumented migrant workers at three construction sites as part of a nationwide initiative. Labuan Immigration Director Raymond Entalai said the simultaneous operation was carried out with the involvement of 32 personnel from the Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Police and the National Registration Department (NRD). He said 48 individuals were inspected, with most found to possess valid travel documents, including 'clearance letters' issued by the Sabah Immigration Department. 'However, 20 individuals, comprising Philippine nationals (including a woman) and one Indonesian were detained for lacking valid documentation. 'The individuals detained, aged between 15 and 60, are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), which prohibits non-citizens from entering or staying in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit,' Raymond said at the operation site at Jalan Patau-Patau, here, on Wednesday. He said the investigations would also be extended under Section 39(b) of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1957 (Revised 1983), to ensure compliance with national registration standards. Raymond said the detained individuals have been placed at a temporary immigration depot for further investigation. In addition, he said, three employers suspected of hiring the undocumented workers would be summoned by the authorities under Form 29. Raymond reminded employers to strictly adhere to immigration laws and to consult the department for guidance before employing foreign workers. 'This operation reflects our ongoing commitment to enforcing immigration regulations and ensuring that all foreign workers in Malaysia comply with the legal entry and employment requirements,' he said. 13 Pakistani and Indian nationals deported from Sabah
The Pakistani and Indian nationals at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. KOTA KINABALU (May 2): Thirteen Pakistani and Indian nationals have been deported back to their countried by the State Immigration Department for staying in the state illegally. Sabah Immigration Director SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof, in a statement on Friday said the illegal immigrants were deported by air from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport on May 1. She said seven of the Pakistanis were from the Kota Kinabalu Immigration Deportation Centre, four from the Sandakan Immigration Deportation Centre and one l from the Tawau Immigration Deportation Centre, while an Indian man was from the Sandakan Immigration Deportation Centre. Sitti Saleha said as of May 1 this year, the State Immigration Department had deported 67 Pakistani and four Indian nationals by air, which brings the total number of illegal immigrants deported to 4,847 people. She said all the illegal immigrants had completed their prison sentences and have international passports for immediate transfer to avoid long detention periods. Sitti Saleha added that the Sabah State Immigration Department would not compromise with any foreign national who misused the passes and facilities provided. Court action will be taken against employers and premises owners who employ foreign nationals without valid travel documents and passes and individuals who violate the conditions of passes or permits as stipulated in Act 155 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
