Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian was jailed 12 months for overstaying in the State for more than a year. Farno Thomas pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain after the charge was read to him.
Advertisement Farno was arrested on April 26 this year at the bus stop in Jalan Kemabong, Tenom, after his Temporary Work Visit Pass was found to be valid only until July 10, 2023. He was charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, on conviction. The court ordered him to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and referred to the Immigration Department. Meanwhile, six illegal immigrants were jailed four months for entering the State without valid passes. Five of them were arrested at an entertainment outlet in Inanam on April 27, this year while the other one was detained at a house in Kg Ulu Liawan, Keningau on April 29, this year. All the accused failed to produce their identification documents during inspection conducted by the Immigration personnel at the said areas. The offence falls under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and is punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and may also include whipping. The court also ordered all the illegals referred to the Immigration Department for further action after serving their respective prison sentences. Labuan Immigration Detains 15 Filipinos in June 11 Operation
LABUAN: The Labuan Immigration Department (JIM) has detained 15 foreign nationals during an enforcement operation yesterday (June 11) at several locations suspected of housing undocumented migrants here. Its director, Raymond Entalai said those arrested comprised three men, six women, four boys, and two girls -- all Filipino nationals. These foreigners are suspected of committing various immigration offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) during the raids carried out from 1 am tp 4 am. RM955k morphine busted: Drug syndicate foiled at Johor courier hub
JOHOR BARU: The Customs Department foiled an attempt by a drug syndicate to smuggle more than RM955,000 worth of morphine via courier services, following the interception of two suspicious parcels. Johor Customs director Aminul Izmeer Mohd Sohaimi said the seizure was made by a team from the department's Narcotics Branch after a thorough inspection at a Pos Laju office here at 3.35pm on April 23. "Initial checks revealed that the parcels had been sent from Hong Kong to a residential address in Pulai," he told a press conference today. He said each box contained two packets of sweets placed on top of a white bottle filled with a dark-coloured liquid. "Preliminary testing of the liquid confirmed it to be morphine," he said. Aminul said the department was working to identify members of the syndicate and trace the intended recipient of the parcels. He said that this was the sixth case this year involving attempts to smuggle drugs using courier services. "Previous seizures using similar methods involved drugs such as cannabis, sent from countries including Thailand and Vietnam," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Kijal assemblyman Razali ordered to enter defence on sedition charge
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here today ordered Kijal Assemblyman Datuk Razali Idris to enter his defence on a charge of making a speech of seditious nature, alleging government influence over the judiciary, at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery two years ago. Judge Norma Ismail made the order after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against Razali, 58, who is also the former Bersatu Information Chief, at the end of the prosecution's case. "After examining the evidence and submissions of both parties, the court found that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case. "Therefore, the accused is called to defend himself on this charge," said the judge, who then set the trial date for four days on Sept 26 and 30 and Oct 2 and 3. The proceedings were attended by deputy public prosecutors Datuk Badiuszaman Ahmad and Muhammad Amir Hannif Ahijman, and lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, representing Razali, who is also the Terengganu Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman. On Nov 24, 2023, Razali pleaded not guilty to making a speech of a seditious nature between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Nov 10 of the same year at the launch of the Kemaman by-election machinery at Padang Astaka Chukai, Kemaman in Terengganu. He was charged under Section 4 (1) (b) of the Sedition Act 1948, which provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to three years or both, if convicted. – BERNAMA
