Mets SS Francisco Lindor out of lineup Thursday with broken toe
June 5 - Luisangel Acuna has been penned into the New York Mets' lineup on Thursday afternoon as the starting shortstop against the Los Angeles Dodgers as four-time All-Star Francisco Lindor takes a seat to deal with a broken toe. Lindor was hit by a pitch in the first inning of Wednesday's Mets-Dodgers game, but was helped to his feet and played all nine innings of the Mets' 6-1 victory. Postgame X-rays revealed a broken pinkie toe in his right foot thanks to an errant Tony Gonsolin slider. By sitting at the start of Thursday's game, Lindor will be out of the Mets' leadoff spot for just the second time all season. He missed the 10-4 win against the Miami Marlins on March 31 following the birth of his son, Koa. Lindor said he is working through the pain and will be re-evaluated daily to determine his availability. "It hurts," Lindor said. "And even more so when you are wearing shoes." Lindor is batting .279 with 14 home runs, 36 RBIs and 11 stolen bases this season. Acuna, 23, enters Thursday's game with a .246/.298/.292 slash line and 11 stolen bases in 53 games. He's the younger brother of Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna. --Field Level Media

Spencer Schwellenbach K's 11 as Braves blank Red Sox
May 31 - Austin Riley and Ronald Acuna Jr. each hit home runs to support Spencer Schwellenbach's strong start and the Atlanta Braves blanked the visiting Boston Red Sox 5-0 on Saturday to even their three-game interleague series. The Braves, who had lost seven of their last nine, took a 3-2 lead in the season series. Boston has dropped six of its last seven. Riley and Acuna both went deep in the fourth inning when the Braves rallied for four runs to take control. Schwellenbach (4-4) pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed five hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts. It was his second straight appearance with 11 strikeouts, matching his career high. Daysbel Hernandez struck out both batters he faced to close the seventh. Dylan Lee pitched a perfect eighth and Rafael Montero worked the ninth to nail down Atlanta's third shutout win. Boston starter Walker Buehler (4-3) threw a season-high 106 pitches, only 64 for strikes, during 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on 10 hits, two walks and six strikeouts. He had allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last six starts. The Braves scored in the first when Acuna singled and scored on Matt Olson's two-out double. Leading off the fourth, Riley drove a knuckle curve 400 feet into the left-center field stands for his 10th home run. Riley had driven the previous pitch into the seats, but it veered foul at the last minute. Ozzie Albies followed with a walk, took second on Buehler's errant pickoff throw and scored when Michael Harris II lined a single to center field. Acuna then drilled a 428-foot homer to right-center, his third in eight games, to make it 5-0. Boston had two hits in both the fourth and fifth innings and failed to score. --Field Level Media

Is Ronald Acuna Jr. about to ruin the Phillies' pitching plans with one explosive swing
Is Ronald Acuna Jr. about to ruin the Phillies' pitching plans with one explosive swing (Image Source: Getty Images) The Philadelphia Phillies are preparing for a challenging task. They will be playing the Atlanta Braves and their megastar, Ronald Acuna Jr., in a new series. The Phillies' recent winning streak was put to an end, and they now have to remain steadfast as Acuna Jr. comes off a lengthy injury layoff. The team is banking on their three selected pitchers to enable them to take the series and stall the rise of the Braves' firepower. Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sanchez to guide Phillies' battle The Phillies are delegating three important pitchers to attempt and inhibit Ronald Acuna Jr. and the Braves' powerful lineup. Zack Wheeler and others will star in the series. Wheeler has been extremely tough this season with a 6–1 record and a 2.42 ERA. Suarez is also performing well with a 3–0 record and a 3.70 ERA. Sánchez carries a 4–1 record and a 3.17 ERA after 54 innings. These pitchers will have to be in top form. Acuna has fared well against some of them previously. He has hit four home runs off Wheeler in 48 plate appearances. Acuna has not been as good against Suarez, though, hitting a mere .214 across eight games. And while he has only seen Sánchez six times, he has already managed three hits, including a home run. The Phillies are employing primarily left-handed starters in hopes of making things more difficult for Acuna to become hot. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is your dog jumping up on you? Having missed almost a year due to a torn ACL, he homered twice in his first two games back. One was a huge 467-foot homer. He also hit a 427-foot home run the next evening. The bat's speed and power are still intact, and he is energetic. Acuna stated that he is feeling good, and manager Brian Snitker concurs he changed his mind on giving Acuna a day off. With Acuna batting well and leading off, the Braves lineup is more potent. His teammate Matt Olson explained that Acuna was simply "born with" that type of ability. In 2023, Acuna had a season to recall with 40+ home runs and 70+ steals. Now he appears ready to accomplish something extraordinary once more. Braves pitcher Grant Holmes also pitched well recently, going seven innings and allowing just one run. That provides the Braves even greater momentum as they face the Phillies. The Phillies are facing a big test as they try to stop Ronald Acuna Jr. and the powerful Atlanta Braves. They are counting on three strong pitchers Wheeler, Suarez, and Sanchez to keep the Braves' bats quiet. But Acuna Jr. is already showing MVP form just days after returning from injury. This series could be close, and it may come down to whether the Phillies' pitchers can hold off one of the best hitters in the league. Ronald Acuna Jr. homers for 2nd straight game as Braves roll Padres
May 24 - Ronald Acuna Jr. homered for the second straight game and Grant Holmes pitched seven strong innings to lift the Atlanta Braves to a 7-1 win over the visiting San Diego Padres on Saturday and even their three-game series. The win ended Atlanta's three-game losing streak and was their first in six games against San Diego. Acuna hit a 427-foot, two-run homer to left-center field in the sixth inning off reliever Alek Jacob. Acuna has homered in both games since returning from left ACL surgery that kept him sidelined for a year. Holmes (3-3) scattered six hits and recorded six strikeouts against one walk. It was his first win since April 20. Enyel De Los Santos pitched a scoreless eighth and Scott Blewett worked around a pair of two-out walks in the ninth to finish the game. San Diego had to go with a bullpen game when scheduled starter Michael King complained of right shoulder soreness and was scratched an hour before first pitch. Sean Reynolds (0-1) was the opener, making his first career start, and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with one strikeout. The Braves opened the scoring with a run in the second as Alex Verdugo scored on Nick Allen's infield single. The Padres tied the game 1-1 in the third inning on Manny Machado's RBI single. Machado went 2-for-2 with two walks and has hit safely in 17 of the last 22 games, lifting his average to .317. Atlanta scored twice in the third inning on a solo homer from Matt Olson and a run-scoring infield single from Ozzie Albies, which extended his hitting streak to 10 games. The home run was Olson's 12th and his fifth over the last seven games. The Braves broke it open in the seventh when Michael Harris II singled to right with the bases loaded to drive in a pair. San Diego placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the injured list with a left oblique strain and recalled catcher Luis Campusano from Triple-A El Paso. Campusano walked as a pinch-hitter in the ninth. --Field Level Media

Ronald Acuna Jr. returns to Braves in massive lift nearly one year after crushing ACL tear
The Braves are receiving an MVP-sized jolt in hopes of finally performing up to expectations. Atlanta is activating former NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. for Friday night's home game against the Padres, welcoming him back after he missed most of the 2024 season with an ACL tear. His return comes two days before the one-year anniversary of him tearing his ACL against the Pirates last year. 'Tonight: RONALD RETURNS!' the Braves tweeted Friday morning above a highlight clip. The Braves (24-25) have been one of baseball's most disappointing teams through roughly the first-third of the season, looking little like the contender they were expected to be. 3 Ronald Acuna Jr. won NL MVP in 2023. Brett Davis-Imagn Images Inserting Acuna back into the lineup should provide a massive lift considering he's one of the game's best players when healthy. Acuna, 27, earned MVP honors in 2023 by becoming the first player in MLB history to hit at least 40 homers and notch at least 70 steals in the season. 3 Ronald Acuna Jr. tore his left ACL last year. Getty Images He tallied 41 home runs and 73 steals while slashing .337/.416/.596 with a career-high 1.012 OPS. The 2024 campaign started slow for Acuna, with just a .716 OPS, before he tore his ACL last year while on the bases against the Pirates. He stopped while attempting to bluff a steal of third before crumpling to the ground with the injury. Acuna previously tore his right ACL during the 2021 season. 3 Ronald Acuna Jr. notched baseball's only 40-70 season. Getty Images The outfielder underwent surgery on June 6, and the Braves reached the playoffs without him, though they could not win the NL East for the seventh straight season. The Padres then quickly dumped them in the playoffs with a two-game sweep. The Braves' offense has been unspectacular this year without Acuna, ranking 17th in runs scored, 14th in slugging percentage and 13th in OPS. Acuna hit .400 spanning six games and 15 at-bats in the minors before the team cleared him to return, adding two homers in that stretch. Atlanta sits in third place in the NL East, 7 1/2 games behind the division-leading Phillies and five games behind the Mets.
