All the suspects have been arrested, police said. Kedah police chief Comm Adzli Abu Shah said Kpl Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, died at the scene after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with the suspects on board. "He sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene,' he told reporters when met at the scene late Thursday. Cop killed in line of duty during burglary, suspects nabbed
ALOR STAR: A policeman was killed in the line of duty today after he was run over by a fleeing burglary suspect at Taman Golf here. Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, from the Kedah Criminal Investigation Department (CID), died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle driven by one of the suspects, who was attempting to steal a metal safe from the house. Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the incident occurred at about 3.30pm following a tip-off regarding suspicious activity at the premises. "Acting on the information, a team of five CID policemen in two vehicles was dispatched to the location. "Upon arrival, our men encountered the suspects in the act. "One of them, who was behind the wheel of a Lexus, accelerated and rammed into our policeman just as he exited his vehicle. "He was run over and died at the scene. "This is a tragic loss for the police force, especially for us in Kedah," he said when met at the scene. Adzli said one of the suspects was arrested on-site, while three others fled in the Lexus, which sustained damage during the collision. "The group was tracked to Kepala Batas in Jitra and detained within an hour. "The suspects even stole another car during their escape. "However, all four have been arrested," he said. The suspects, aged between 24 and 26, are believed to be from Johor. Police checks revealed one had 77 prior offences, mostly for house break-ins and car theft, while another had 30. The other two had six and two past offences, respectively. "They appear to be part of a mobile burglary syndicate operating across state borders. "We are working closely with other contingents, including Johor, to determine whether this was a random strike or a job based on insider information," he said. Investigators found clear signs of forced entry at the house, including broken locks and a pried-open door. No one was home during the incident. "All vehicles involved, including the Lexus used to run over our officer and the second vehicle stolen during the escape, have been recovered," Adzli said. Mohd Hafizul, a native of Setiu, Terengganu, is survived by his wife and four children aged four, nine, and 11. Arrangements are being made for his burial. "He died while carrying out his duties. His death is a tremendous loss to the force. We will ensure justice is served," said Adzli. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking. Adzli also urged the public not to speculate on the case, particularly about the targeted home or the officer's family. "My officers or I will provide updates should there be any new developments," he said.

Police arrest five, seize RM2.4mil worth of high-grade cannabis buds
SUNGAI PETANI: Police crippled a cross-border drug syndicate operated by a group of locals, seizing about 66.4kg of high-grade cannabis buds worth approximately RM2.4 million on Sunday. The syndicate, believed to have been active since last month, was dismantled in a series of raids which led to the arrest of five people, including the alleged mastermind and his wife, both aged 26. Kedah police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the group had been smuggling the drugs from Thailand using modified vehicles, concealing the contraband in door panels and bonnets. "In the first raid around 1.30pm, police arrested three men and seized about 64kg of cannabis buds at a location in Sungai Petani. "A follow-up operation at 8.30pm the same day led to the arrest of two women, including the mastermind's wife and seizure of an additional 2kg of the cannabis buds inside a freezer at a house nearby, bringing the total to about 66.4kg," he told reporters at the Kuala Muda police headquarters. Police also seized two vehicles used in the smuggling runs. Adzli said the syndicate had been employing a two-tier delivery method, initially entering Thailand via the Bukit Kayu Hitam border to collect the drugs, then re-entering Malaysia through Padang Besar in Perlis. The drugs were later transported south in luggage bags. "The runners were paid RM10,000 for cross-border transportation and RM2,000 for domestic delivery," he added. Investigations found that the mastermind is also an unlicensed moneylender, and had roped in acquaintances, including a 25-year-old security guard, to act as couriers. All five suspects, aged between 24 and 26, have been remanded for six days since the arrest. "Two of the male suspects tested positive for drugs and have prior records, including for drug-related offences," said Adzli. The case is being investigated under Sections 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, for trafficking and self administration of drugs, respectively. Under the first section, those found guilty are liable to a death sentence or life imprisonment with caning, while the second section sets punishment at a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years. Adzli said the cannabis buds seized were of much higher quality than in previous cases. "One kilogramme of this batch is valued at RM35,000, significantly more than the 90kg of lower-grade cannabis seized last month, which was worth under RM300,000 in total," he added.

Policeman in crash that killed teen detained, cooperated fully
ALOR STAR: The policeman involved in the road crash that claimed the life of a teenager in Guar Chempedak has been detained and questioned. Kedah police chief Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the policeman had fully cooperated with the investigation. He said the policeman had lodged a report immediately after the incident and has since been released on police bail after testing negative for drugs. "He reported the crash and fully submitted to the investigation process. Urine tests came back negative, and he has no prior disciplinary or integrity-related offences on record," Adzli told the New Straits Times. He stressed that the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness and transparency. "If there had been any element of criminal intent or evidence that the policeman was under the influence, we would not have hesitated to take immediate and more serious action," he said. Adzli said the case, which was initially investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, has now been reclassified under Section 41(1) of the same act for causing death by dangerous driving following the victim's passing. "There is no question of preferential treatment or cover-up. The same legal processes apply to all, regardless of whether the suspect is a civilian or a policeman," he said. He added that the decision to suspend the policeman will be evaluated based on the progress of the investigation. "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy. A full and uncompromised investigation is ongoing, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said. The victim, 16-year-old Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, died at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital's intensive care unit on Thursday after battling critical injuries for three days. He was hit by a Perodua Axia reportedly driven by the policeman at an intersection in Guar Chempedak on Monday.
