Guar Chempedak crash: Teen succumbs to injuries, cop under probe [WATCH]

BALING: Police have assured a thorough and transparent investigation into the recent death of a teenage student who was hit by a vehicle driven by a policeman in Guar Chempedak.
Kedah Police Chief commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said the police deeply regret the incident and extend their condolences to the victim's family.
"We visited the family yesterday. I personally feel very saddened by this incident.
"We will not tolerate any form of negligence.
"A full investigation will be carried out without compromise, including an internal probe by the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department," he said at a press conference today.
Adzli said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.
"Initially, the case was investigated under Section 42(1), but it was reclassified following the victim's death," he said.
He said the policeman involved has been detained for investigation and later released on police bail but has not been suspended from duty.
"We will evaluate the need for suspension depending on the progress of the investigation," he said.
The victim, a Form Four student, was critically injured after his motorcycle was struck by a car driven by a policeman who had allegedly run a red light in Guar Chempedak on Monday.
The teen, identified as Muhammad Nur Iman Danial Mohd Roshidi, 16, succumbed to his injuries after nearly three days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.

A video showing the chaotic scene on the busy road has since gone viral, with the woman seen chasing some of the motorcyclists. Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the incident occurred at about 11.58am near a shopping mall, when the woman's car struck three motorcycles at a traffic light junction. "The suspect then exited the vehicle and attacked those nearby with a knife. "With the help of passers-by, the suspect was subdued and handed over to police. "Two knives were seized during the arrest," he said in a statement. Naazron said six locals, aged between 21 and 60, were injured in the attack. Two of the victims were warded for further treatment, while the other four received outpatient care. The three motorcycles involved were damaged. The suspect will be remanded tomorrow under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment if convicted. Investigations are also being conducted under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving, which is punishable with up to six months' jail or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, and under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM10,000 fine and 12 months' jail. Naazron urged those with information about the case to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector Nursyaza Farhah Samhairi at 017-691 9817.

The accused being taken away after the court was told that the prosecution had yet to get a reply on the representation filed by his defence team SEREMBAN: The Magistrate's court here has fixed Sept 10 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by a 17-year-old car driver facing three charges of causing the deaths of three young motorcyclists due to reckless driving. Magistrate Saiful Sayoti made the decision after the court was told the prosecution had yet to get a reply on the representation filed by the defence. Lawyer for the accused Johan Radzi told this to reporters when met outside the court as the proceedings were heard in camera. The accused claimed trial when charged on April 22, with committing the offence at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here around 8.30pm on March 6. He was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16 and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17. The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction. The accused had also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid license. He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000 or imprisonment of up to three months or both upon conviction. He had also filed a representation for the charge. On May 21, Johan had told the court of his client's intention to file a representation to have the charges against him reviewed.
