Sudan's Sovereignty Council appointed Idris as prime minister on May 19, and subsequently began gradually forming the new cabinet. On June 3, it appointed ministers of agriculture and irrigation, higher education and scientific research, and health. Five days later, it appointed ministers of interior and defense. This comes amid a war that has been ongoing in Sudan since April 15, 2023, between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly referred to as "Hemedti". The conflict has resulted in the deaths of more than 20,000 people and the displacement of approximately 15 million, according to reports by the UN and local authorities. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
