ICESCO Launches Second Edition of Its Poetry Contest 'Cities of Poems'
Mohamed Mandour The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) announces the launch of the second edition of the annual poetry award 'Cities of Poems,' dedicated this year to the city of Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, in celebration of its designation as a 2025 Culture Capital in the Islamic World. The annual contest, which coincides with ICESCO's announcement of the Culture Capital in the Islamic World, aims to revive and strengthen the age-old connection between poetry and place: an enduring relationship that has inspired many immortal works in Arabic and global poetry. It also seeks to document, through poetic and aesthetic expression, the history and geography of cities, and to honor the figures and civilizations celebrated by the Capitals of Culture in the Islamic World through poetry. Poetic submissions, in either Arabic or Uzbek, will be accepted starting 1st August 2025, and ending on Wednesday, 31st December 2025. A panel of experts from ICESCO, together with a host of distinguished poets, will evaluate the submitted poems to select three winners. The first-place winner will receive a USD 3,000 cash prize; the second-place winner will receive USD 2,000; and the third-place winner will receive USD 1,000. In addition, all winners will be awarded certificates of appreciation. "My Little Pony" Live-Action Movie in Works
Yara Sameh 'My Little Pony' is getting ready to gallop on to the big screen in a live action feature from Amazon MGM Studios and Hasbro Entertainment. Based on the popular toys that date back to 1982, the ponies have cantered into numerous animated series and feature films since the 1980s. The most recent feature-length outing was 'My Little Pony: A New Generation' in 2021, which became popular on Netflix after its theatrical release from Paramount was canceled due to Coronavirus. This will be the first live action project for the 43-year old property, which has captivated several generations with its rainbow-hued animals with colorful neon manes and tails. The project is still in development with no creative team in place yet. While the toys originally appealed mostly to girls, the 2010 series 'My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic' lured a new type of fans: teenaged and adult men who dubbed themselves 'bronies' and used their fandom to challenge conventional gender stereotypes. My Little Pony toys have been sold in more than a thousand varieties. It was recently inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Legendary Is Mulling Acquisition of Lionsgate
Yara Sameh Legendary Entertainment is eyeing a deal to acquire Lionsgate Studios, following the latter company's recent separation from Starz. If a deal is reached, it would bring together Legendary, which is behind the Dune movie franchise and a 'monster-verse' collection that includes several Godzilla movies, with Lionsgate, whose film franchises include John Wick and the Hunger Games. Legendary first reached out about a potential partnership with Lionsgate Studios following the split-off of Starz in May. Lionsgate Studios formally separated from the Starz business effective May 7. The company comprising its TV and film production and distribution divisions and a content library with 20,000-plus titles, merged last year with Screaming Eagle Acquisition Corp., a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and became a separately traded entity (with 87.3% of the total shares of Lionsgate Studios held by Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.). Meanwhile, Legendary last year bought out the stake Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group owned in the company. The pact left Legendary and private-equity firm Apollo Global Management, which acquired a stake in Legendary in 2022 for $760 million, in control of the company. Among the Legendary Pictures' slate was this year's blockbuster 'A Minecraft Movie,' as well as films including 'The Hangover,' 'The Dark Knight' and 'Enola Holmes.' In aggregate, Legendary Pictures-associated productions have grossed more than $20 billion worldwide at the box office, according to the company. Scorpions Bringing 60th Anniversary Tour to Egypt on October 15
Yara Sameh German rock legends Scorpions are bringing their 60th anniversary world tour to Egypt in October. The iconic band's "Coming Home – 60 Years of Scorpions" tour hits the New Capital at 9 p.m. on October 15. Formed in 1965, Scorpions are considered one of the most popular and successful acts to ever come out of Germany, selling an impressive 110 million albums worldwide, cementing their legacy in the world of metal and rock. The rock icons have spent six decades touring the world with a catalogue of hits that includes "Still Loving You," "Wind of Change," and "Rock You Like a Hurricane." Known for their high-energy performances and cross-generational appeal, Scorpions' tour celebrates a legacy defined by longevity, melody, and global connection.
