Oklahoma's Ailana Agbayani wins Gold Glove award

Oklahoma's Ailana Agbayani wins Gold Glove award Ailana Agbayani picked up an award Wednesday that only one Oklahoma softball player ever won before. The Sooners' junior infielder earned a Rawlings Gold Glove award Wednesday. She was the only player in the country at second base who won one. By capturing the award, she joined former Oklahoma shortstop Grace Lyons as the only such winners from OU. In fairness, the award has only been given out since 2022. Agbayani totaled 100 assists, 69 putouts, and just one error. She was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Defensive team at season's end and had earlier been named SEC Player of the Week on April 29. At the plate, Agbayani has hit for a .336 batting average with eight doubles, four home runs, 35 RBI, and 36 runs scored. Unsurprisingly, the SEC did well in the Gold Glove awards. Agbayani joined conference mates Jocelyn Erickson from Florida (catcher), Arianna Rodi from South Carolina (first base), Koko Wooley from Texas A&M (shortstop) and Kendra Falby from Florida (centerfield) as SEC winners. Oklahoma State's Tallen Edwards won the third base award. Oklahoma returns to the diamond on Thursday in the first round of the Women's College World Series. The Sooners play at 1:30 p.m. CT against Tennessee, a team that took the regular-season series against the Sooners. OU has won the last four national championships and is playing its ninth straight WCWS. Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso will be seeking her ninth title, all of which have come with the Sooners. Oklahoma beats Alabama to book Women's College World Series trip

Oklahoma beats Alabama to book Women's College World Series trip For the seventh straight season, the Oklahoma softball team has a late-spring trip planned to Oklahoma City. OU, the national No. 2-seed, booked a seventh straight trip to the Women's College World Series on Saturday, beating Alabama, 13-2. The last time the Sooners failed to make to the WCWS, some of its players were in junior-high school. An eight-run explosion in the third inning proved more than enough. Oklahoma sent 13 hitters to the plate in the frame. Gabbie Garcia hit a two-run home run while Ailana Agbayani and Isabela Emerling followed with RBI singles. Abigale Dayton plated two more on a single and Ella Parker capped things with a two-run double. Every run came with one out. Kierston Deal lost her shutout in the bottom half of the inning, but it meant little. She ultimately pitched four innings, giving up two runs, both on solo home runs. Audrey Lowry closed things out in the five-inning run-rule win. Parker and Nelly McEnroe-Marinas hit solo home runs to bookend OU's four-run fifth inning. In-between, Garcia hit another two-run shot provided enough scoring to force Alabama to respond in the bottom of the inning to avoid an early finish. Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso will coach in her 18th Women's College World Series. She has led OU to eight national championships, including each of the last four.

Pair of Oklahoma Sooners earn SEC Weekly Awards

Pair of Oklahoma Sooners earn SEC Weekly Awards It was a huge weekend for the Oklahoma Sooners, who took down the Texas Longhorns in a three-game sweep. Oklahoma is now in first place and two wins up on Texas A&M and Tennessee for the SEC regular season title. There were a lot of impressive performances, but two stood out and earned SEC weekly honors. Second basemen Ailana Agbayani earned SEC Player of the Week, while third basemen Nelly McEnroe-Marinas was named Co-SEC Freshman of the Week. In the three-game sweep, Agbayani was 6-for-8 with a grand slam, five RBIs, three runs, two doubles, and two walks. The grand slam was just her second home run of the season, and she's now hitting .339 on the season. Agbayani transferred in from BYU and has been a clutch performer for the Sooners this season. McEnroe-Marinas is having an awesome season for the Sooners after redshirting in 2024. The captain was fantastic for the Sooners this weekend, hitting .556 for the weekend, with a team-high six runs scored and three extra-base hits. She's fourth on the team with a .367 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 14 home runs and leads the Sooners with 45 RBIs. The Oklahoma Sooners will look to finish the season strong when they travel down to Gainesville for their regular season series finale against the Florida Gators.
