AirAsia Philippines launches ‘end-of-summer' seat sale

Budget carrier AirAsia Philippines on Tuesday announced its end-of-summer seat sale, offering one-way base fare domestic flights for as low as P208. In a news release, AirAsia said its 'Fiesta promo' seat sale can be booked from June 2 to 15, 2025, for travel between June 2 and November 30, 2025. Featured destinations include Bacolod, Kalibo, Iloilo, Tacloban, Puerto Princesa, Caticlan, and Cagayan de Oro, along with other top local stops. AirAsia said it has been proactively supporting local festivities through the AirAsia Fiesta Series, offering promo fares to encourage travel and cultural immersion. This month, the airline is putting the spotlight on Tacloban City, in time for its local festivities, with base fares for as low as P538. 'Part of AirAsia DNA is all about giving great opportunities to travel. After Kalibo and Caticlan (Boracay), this month we're putting the spotlight on Tacloban with special sale fares, one of our key destinations, not only because of its local festivities but also because it holds a special place in the hearts of many balikbayans and Filipinos to reconnect with home in Eastern Visayas,' said AirAsia Philippines head of communications and corporate affairs Steve Dailisan. In the first half of 2025, AirAsia said it had launched 11 double-digit promos, including a PISO sale that 'supported travel for domestic and international routes, ensuring the destination's inclusion in key seat sales and special offers.' —VBL, GMA Integrated News

Veteran pilot is AirAsia Philippines' new president

Budget carrier AirAsia Philippines on Monday announced its new president and general manager as the airline enters the next phase of sustainable growth. Captain Suresh Bangah, a seasoned aviation professional with almost 30 years of experience, started as a first officer, pilot instructor, and auditor at AirAsia in 2003, then served as group director of flight operations at AirAsia Aviation Group Limited (AAAGL). He also became the chief pilot and director of flight operations at AirAsia X Berhad (AAX). Bangah is succeeding Ricky Isla, who is retiring after serving AirAsia Philippines for six years. Isla will be the chief advisor to the general manager during the leadership transition. 'With extensive management and industry experience—particularly in upholding the gold standard in safety and operational excellence, and a deep commitment to guest-centricity and Allstar values, Captain Suresh is well placed to build on the strong foundations laid by his predecessor, Ricky Isla,' Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, said in a statement. 'Captain Suresh steps into this role at an important juncture. As AirAsia progresses into our next chapter, the Philippines remains a key pillar in our regional strategy—with strong potential in inter-island connectivity and broader regional integration into Asean and North Asia, among others,' he added. Lingam also expressed gratitude for Isla's service during the time he described as 'one of the most turbulent periods in aviation history.' 'Stabilising operations, keeping our people grounded in purpose, and restoring confidence in the brand. We thank him for his steady leadership and are grateful that he will continue to support the transition as Advisor,' Lingam said. Meanwhile, Bangah said he is looking forward to working with the AirAsia staff as the new president of AirAsia Philippines. 'I am committed to leading our talented team of Allstars to elevate our operations while raising the bar on the end-to-end guest experience,' Bangah said. 'With strong foundations in place, we look forward to collaborating with our partners and stakeholders to strengthen the local aviation ecosystem, while advancing Asean connectivity to the world as we connect guests to what matters most, from education and work opportunities to family and new adventures,' he added. AirAsia Philippines noted that its aircraft flew almost 7 million passengers in 2024. As it enters another chapter, the budget carrier plans to expand its fleet to 19 aircraft. The carrier said this move 'will boost capacity to meet rising demand while sustaining a 90% load factor in 2025.' — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News

AirAsia Philippines names new CEO

MANILA: Personnel changes at the highest levels in the local aviation sector are not yet over. This, as a new CEO is set to take over the captain's seat at AirAsia Philippines. The new man taking over the top post is Malaysian national Capt. Suresh Bangah, a seasoned aviation leader with over two decades of airline experience and over 14 years in senior leadership roles. Suresh is an old hand at AirAsia, starting there in 2003 as a First Officer. He steadily climbed the ranks and had served as the group director of flight operations at AirAsia Aviation Group Limited. As he steps into this new role at the local unit of the world's best low-cost airline, he will work closely with former CEO Ricky Isla, who will continue to support the company as chief advisor to the CEO. Sources say that Bangah is the easy and logical choice for the bigger role, not only because of his vast experience, but also his unwavering commitment to AirAsia, and more importantly, his vision to propel the continued growth of AirAsia Philippines. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
