Customs officials seize smuggled goods from five passengers at Coimbatore airport
Officials of the Air Customs Unit at the Coimbatore International Airport on Saturday (July 19, 2025) seized smuggled goods worth about ₹90 lakh from five passengers. According to the officials, the Deputy Commissioner of Customs and his team developed intelligence based on data analysis and intercepted five men — Thameem Ansary, Mohamed Aboobacker Sadiq, Benish Jesudhasan, Muthuraja and Kamalbatcha — who arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) by Flight 6E 1498 on July 19. The officials seized contraband comprising latest electronic gadgets (drones, mobile phones and their batteries, smart watches, microphones etc.,) and cigarettes and e-cigarettes from their checked-in baggage and hand baggage. The seized 17 DJI Air 3S Drones have a total market value of about ₹15 lakh. The seized cigarettes and e-cigarettes of different brands are valued at ₹16 lakh. The value of the iphones, etc is estimated to be ₹60 lakh.

Drones seized from two passengers at Coimbatore airport
Officials of the Air Customs Unit at Coimbatore International Airport, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Customs, seized drones and batteries of certain prohibhited specifications worth ₹35 lakh from two passengers who arrived in the city on June 24, 2025. The two passengers, Sankarguru Subramanian and Jahir Hussian, arrived at Coimbatore airport on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) from Singapore on flight TR540. They were carrying numerous drones of the latest designs and batteries in both their checked-in and hand baggage. Official sources said the seized drones included the DJI Air 3S Fly More Combo, DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini 4 Pro, and DJI Mini 4K, all of Chinese make.

Ganja seized from woman passenger at Coimbatore airport
Officers of the Air Intelligence Unit and Baggage Officers of Air Customs Unit seized 3.15 kg of ganja (hydroponic weed) from a woman passenger on June 6 at the Coimbatore International Airport. Sources said the passenger, who is aged 22-23 years and is from Idukki in Kerala, was carrying ganja worth more than ₹3 crore in her checked-in baggage. She arrived at the Coimbatore airport from Bangkok via Singapore by flight TR 540 (Scoot flight). Investigation is in progress under the NDPS ACT, 1986, read with the Customs Act, 1962. The operation was carried out by the Air Customs Office at the airport under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Coimbatore Airport, the sources said on Saturday (June 7, 2025).
