Delhi govt to provide subsidies to promote e-vehicles, says CM Gupta
New Delhi: Delhi government will provide subsidies to people to promote electric vehicle adoption in Delhi in its new policy, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. Delivering a valedictory address at Aironomics, 2025 convention, she highlighted Delhi government's different initiatives to combat air pollution. Transformation of all the vehicles, including private ones, into electric vehicles (EVs) is a big vision for which Delhi government is coming up with a new EV policy, she said. "We will urge people to purchase electric vehicles for which they will be provided subsidies," she said. Gupta also said that air pollution is a year long problem that required sustained efforts for which her government is hiring 1000 water sprinklers to be used to combat dust on the roads through out the year. "In view of traffic, these sprinklers will operate in early morning and late night hours so that no congestion is there on the roads," she said. Further, the government is also deploying integrated machines across 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi that will perform the task of mechanical sweeping of the roads, water sprinkling and litter collection, she said. She urged the gathering to join the mission to ensure a clean green Delhi by contributing to government's initiatives to check biomass burning , expanding green cover cover and EV adoption. Former New and Renewable Energy Secretary Bhupinder Bhalla speaking on air quality in the capital said that the Central government and Delhi government need to align their efforts to check pollution in the city. According to a statement, several panelists discussed, 'Turning the Tide: Delhi's moment to lead on clean air' session held under the broader Aironomics 2025 convention, hosted by the Bharat Climate Forum (BCF), Dalberg Advisors and the Council for International Economic Understanding (CIEU). "Earlier one would say not much is happening, but now there's momentum. Now there are two common governments with a common agenda in Delhi. Now even the local bodies are also on the same page. Therefore, anything that is decided will be implemented by everyone and at a much faster pace," Bhalla told PTI. Also speaking at the session, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) Chairman Sanjiv Kumar spoke about the need for cost-efficient, real-time pollution monitoring systems. "We want to improve efficiency so that we can do more coverage and find better solutions. If we can identify whether a plant in a particular location is causing a surge, we'll be able to intervene more effectively," he said. The summit also launched Phase 2 of the Air Quality Action Forum (AQAF), jointly announced by Paytm Foundation and UNEP. The platform will support cities and innovators with tools, data, and financing models to scale local clean air solutions, added the statement.

Capital aims for EV transition: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta
NEW DELHI: At the 'Aironomics 2025' summit held in the capital on Saturday, CM Rekha Gupta said her government was committed to tackling the city's air crisis through strong and clear measures — from scrapping old vehicles to shifting entirely to electric public transport by 2028. 'We have lost clean air, and we are all responsible for it,' Gupta said while addressing the summit on the theme 'A New Air Agenda: Pathways for Scale and Systematic Impact'. She noted that the Delhi government had drawn up a detailed action plan within its first 100 days, including a scrapping policy for end-of-life vehicles. 'Old cars will not be allowed to run. Petrol and diesel vehicles whose life has ended will be removed. We have made a scheme for this,' Gupta said. Gupta added that Delhi's public transport would transition completely to electric vehicles (EVs). 'In the first phase, we have brought in 400 electric buses, which we call DEVI. Another 200 will be added. By 2028, all buses will be EVs,' she said, highlighting that over 4,000 EV charging stations are being installed across the city. She also announced the introduction of strict rules for construction activities. 'SOPs will be issued. High-rise buildings must install water sprinklers. Smog guns, water pumps, and other machines will be deployed to keep the air clean,' she said.

Delhi CM pitches for year-round anti-pollution plan
NEW DELHI Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday highlighted the Delhi government's initiatives, such as the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) scheme, hi-tech machines for water sprinkling and road sweeping, and new policies to prevent garbage burning at both localities and landfills as key measures to combat the Capital's air pollution. Speaking at Aironomics-2025, an event where policymakers and experts discussed clean air as a driver of India's economic growth, Ms. Gupta underlined the need for public involvement. She said the government will seek people's participation, from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), ensuring proper disposal of construction waste to providing heaters to guards in winter so they don't burn firewood. Year-round problem 'The previous governments treated pollution as a winter issue. But pollution is not seasonal. In winter, slowed air flow makes pollution more visible, but we must work to control it all year,' the CM said, stressing long-term reforms. 'We've backed our ambition with resources. ₹300 crore has been allocated in this year's budget for pollution control,' Ms. Gupta said. She also noted that the Delhi Pollution Control Committee's vacancies had been reduced from 60% to 34%, with a target of 25% by June. The CM also said the government will continue to promote electric vehicles, with subsidy plans in the pipeline. A blueprint is being prepared to establish 48,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Delhi by 2026 under the DEVi initiative. Aironomics 2025, hosted by the Council for International Economic Understanding (CIEU) and organised under the Bharat Climate Forum in collaboration with advisory firm Dalberg, brought together representatives from the WHO, UNEP, the World Bank, IITs, TERI, NGT, CPCB, and others. Key discussions included carbon markets, green bonds, real-time air quality monitoring technology, and grassroots engagement. The CIEU projected investment opportunities worth ₹35,000 crore and job creation potential in the biogas and EV sectors. National priority The key discussions included financing models like carbon markets and green bonds, technology for real-time air quality monitoring and community-driven initiatives. The summit reiterated that poor air quality is a year-round, pan-India crisis, costing the economy an estimated $95 billion annually. Ashwani Mahajan, Co-convener of Swadeshi Jagran Manch, the economic wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), stressed the need for coordinated action across ministries and States to bridge gaps in enforcement, funding, and institutional mandates. The event concluded with a call to transform policy consensus into coordinated implementation across institutions and sectors, reaffirming clean air as a national development priority.

Delhi CM vows 2,000 new e-buses by 2026
Chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday that the government will introduce 2,000 more Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (Devi) buses in the Capital by the end of this year and will also provide subsidies on electric vehicles (EVs). The CM was addressing the public at the Aironomics 2025 summit, which was focused on scaling solutions to combat India's air pollution crisis. 'With regards to private transportation, an EV policy will be brought by the government so people who are driving scooters or cars are encouraged to buy EVs as the government will give subsidies on the same,' she added. At the occasion organised under the Bharat Climate Forum, the CM said that the government will implement schemes to address scrapping of end-of-life vehicles, which are a major contributor to pollution. Further, addressing concerns of pollution caused by construction activities, CM Gupta said all high-rise buildings have been asked to install water sprinklers so the city can fight dust pollution. 'Sweeping can lead to more problems than solutions. To tackle this, first, we must develop more green belts in the city. Moreover, in all the 70 assemblies of Delhi, highly upgraded machines are going to be used which will have integrated smog gun, water sprinkling system as well as sweeping mechanism. I believe as this has been processed and the government continues to work, Delhi will feel better during this year's peak pollution system,' CM Gupta said. Later, the summit also hosted a panel discussion on reaffirming 'Delhi's political will to lead on clean air while acknowledging the governance complexity across multiple jurisdictions.' Speaking on the topic, Bhupinder Bhalla, former secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), said, 'Having worked in Delhi government, one realises the problems that arise due to involvement of multiple agencies. The grey areas that arise out of this intersection have to be dealt with in order to overcome the governance challenges.'
