Akola: Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), a contagious viral disease affecting cattle, has been officially confirmed in several villages of Akola district, including Nandkhed, Bhikunakhed, and Gajipur. The report was submitted by the office of the joint commissioner (animal husbandry disease investigation), Pune. In response, these villages have been declared 'controlled zones', and prohibitory orders have been issued to restrict movement and related activities. As per the directive issued by district collector Ajit Kumbhar, areas within a 10km radius of each infection site have been categorized into infected and surveillance zones. Strict preventive measures have been put in place to contain the spread. Movement of bovine animals like cows and buffaloes in and out of these controlled areas has been strictly prohibited. This restriction also extends to fodder, animal hides, and by-products that may have come into contact with infected animals.
