DJ Akademiks Clowns Ab-Soul For Being Legally Blind In Response To Diss Track
Akademiks has responded to Ab-Soul threatening to 'slap' him, poking fun at the rapper for being legally blind. On Tuesday (May 27), Ab-Soul reignited the lyrical flames on Instagram, jumping into the ongoing rap war between Joey Bada$$ and a host of West Coast emcees with a scathing new track. Known for his introspective bars and fierce loyalty to his peers, the Carson, Calif. rapper used the moment to stand tall for his Black Hippy collaborator Kendrick Lamar—and to issue a personal threat to media personality DJ Akademiks. 'Imma slap Akademiks when I see him,' Ab-Soul raps on the fiery record, which targets Joey Bada$$ and serves as a passionate defense of the West Coast's lyrical legacy. The bar didn't go unnoticed. Akademiks, never one to back down from controversy, swiftly clapped back on social media with a provocative tweet that many perceived as both dismissive and disrespectful. 'Sounds amazing. Just remind that ni**a they won't throw a funeral for him like Nipsey. keep rapping lil ni**a we ain't see u slap nothing yet,' he wrote, comparing Ab-Soul's cultural impact to that of the late Nipsey Hussle. But he didn't stop there. In a subsequent livestream, Akademiks took his criticism further by mocking Ab-Soul's well-documented visual impairment. 'Usually when ni**as attack me they go fat jokes first. I'm like he don't even go fat jokes. This a new angle,' he said. 'Come to find out this bi**h a** ni**a can't even see. He don't know what I look like. In his f**king brain, I'm a stick figure.' Ab-Soul, who has openly spoken about being legally blind due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome, has never shied away from weaving his condition into his music, using it as a lens for both vulnerability and strength. Akademiks' comments, however, sparked a mix of backlash and laughter online, with some fans and artists calling his statements unnecessarily cruel, while others found humor in the live-streamer's remarks. The track that further fuels the feud between Ab-Soul and Akademiks is part of a larger rap war sparked by Joey Bada$$, who recently launched lyrical attacks on several California-based artists including Ray Vaughn, Daylyt, AzChike, Reason, and others. The battle has fueled a new wave of regional tension and pride, with West Coast voices like Ab-Soul stepping up to defend their turf—bar for bar. Listen to Ab-Soul's new song below. DJ Akademiks hits back at Charlamagne Tha God over Drake, iHeartMedia, and UMG Lawsuit
DJ Akademiks has hit back at Charlamagne Tha God after The Breakfast Club host mocked his coverage of Drake's legal dispute with iHeartMedia and Universal Music Group (UMG). The exchange follows reports that Drake and iHeart reached an "amicable resolution" regarding allegations of payola in favor of Kendrick Lamar's diss track, "Not Like Us." Charlamagne addressed the situation on The Breakfast Club, poking fun at Akademiks' dedication to covering the case. In response, Akademiks watched the clip on his livestream, calling out Charlamagne and The Breakfast Club for being owned by iHeartMedia and dismissing the idea that Drake's petition lacked merit. "It's absolutely untrue that Drake dropped the petition because there was nothing there," Akademiks stated. "The reality is Drake was asking iHeart for information, documents, and possible payments that could prove they were getting paid by Universal." He also pointed out that the FCC's probe into iHeartMedia for alleged payola practices played a role in the decision. Dj Akademiks responds to charlamagne tha god after he said Ak should report the news that drake dismissed the iheartmedia lawsuit because they did nothing wrong .Ak says they dropped it because the company is being probed by the FCC that's what they didn't mention 👀👀👀 — joebuddenclips/fanpage (@Chatnigga101) March 4, 2025 Drake's legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG) remains ongoing. The rapper has accused UMG of boosting Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us" to damage his brand amid contract negotiations, a claim the label has denied. Beyond legal issues, Drake has also faced a tough week on the charts. His tracks "Gimme a Hug" and "Nokia" have dropped out of the Billboard Hot 100's top 10, while Kendrick Lamar's "Luther" continues to hold the No. 1 spot. Akademiks blamed a lack of radio airplay and label support for Drake's declining chart positions. As the Drake vs. UMG saga unfolds, Akademiks remains vocal about what he sees as industry manipulation, while Charlamagne continues to push back on his takes.

DJ Akademiks says Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's $$$4U gets no radio play due to Drake's UMG feud
Hip-hop commentator DJ Akademiks has sparked debate by claiming that Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR's latest album, 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', is receiving little to no radio play due to Drake's ongoing issues with Universal Music Group (UMG). In a post on X on February 28, 2025, Akademiks wrote, 'The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drake's issues at UMG.' He explained that the album was released under two labels—Republic Records, a UMG subsidiary, and Santa Anna Group—and that a deal had to be negotiated to resolve promotion conflicts. 'Only 2 songs from the album will be promoted on radio... Labels have deals with radio stations and a deal between the two had to be negotiated before Drake received any airplay. This is how everybody gets to eat off Drake,' Akademiks concluded. The reason why $$$4U by Drake and Partynextdoor received no radio play so far is because of Drakes issues at UMG and how the album was released under 2 labels Republic (which is UMG who Drake is suing) and Santa Anna Group and which labels get to promote the singles. A deal has… — Akademiks TV (@AkademiksTV) February 28, 2025 The tension between Drake and UMG stems from a 2024 lawsuit in which the rapper accused the label of unlawfully promoting Kendrick Lamar's song 'Not Like Us'. Akademiks suggested that this rift has impacted the promotion of 'Some $exy $ongs 4 U', with only two tracks, 'Gimme a Hug' and 'Somebody Loves Me', being pushed by Republic Records and Santa Anna Group, respectively. Despite the limited radio play, Akademiks praised the album, particularly the track 'Nokia', which he predicted would be a Top 5 hit. However, after the song dropped to #13 on the Billboard charts, he accused UMG of manipulation, stating, 'If this song don't go top 5, that's UMG.' As of now, neither Drake nor UMG has publicly addressed Akademiks' claims, leaving fans and industry insiders speculating about the true impact of the legal battle on the album's success.

DJ Akademiks responds to Twitch ban after grooming controversy
DJ Akademiks, whose real name is Livingston Allen, has addressed his recent ban from Twitch, stating that he is working with the platform to resolve the issue. The ban, which took effect on January 28, 2025, follows controversy surrounding his interaction with a 15-year-old streamer, NourGXD, during a January 23 broadcast. Acknowledging Twitch's decision, Akademiks stated, 'Twitch took some action because even though I wasn't streaming, that happened on their platform. Completely get it. We will work with Twitch and make it right, okay?' Despite the suspension, he confirmed that he will continue streaming on alternative platforms, including Rumble, Meta, and YouTube, where he claims the majority of his audience is based. Akademiks asserted that the matter was settled and dismissed ongoing discussions. He also rejected speculation of major fallout, insisting that his sponsorships remain intact. 'Happy Dad is still right here, make sure you all go get the grape version. Stake supports us on Twitter. Nothing has changed there,' he said, pointing to continued backing from brands. While addressing the ban, he emphasized that he respects Twitch's enforcement policies. 'Twitch, respect their platform, and you also have to respect their rules. And also, when they take enforcement action, you can't get mad,' he added. The controversy has drawn criticism from various figures, including FaZe Clan's Plaqueboymax. However, despite the Twitch ban, Akademiks is doubling down on his presence across other platforms, reaffirming his commitment to content creation.

DJ Akademiks' Twitch Page Reportedly Banned Amid 'Grooming' Controversy
DJ Akademiks has been reportedly banned from Twitch amid his ongoing 'grooming' controversy. Users noticed on Tuesday (Jan. 28) that his popular profile was no longer loading on the site. Instead, a message reading, 'Sorry. Unless you've got a time machine, that content is unavailable,' pops up when trying to access the streamer's page. After the update started gaining traction on social media, the Akademiks TV account provided an alleged explanation for the situation, claiming the figure has been 'temporarily banned on twitch for calling Adin Ross (who is permanently banned on twitch) on stream to confirm if he donated $10,000 to Kendrick Lamar cousin parents who needed hospital beds and a new wheelchair.' However, most users weren't buying it, as the replies flooded with people doubting the reasoning. 'Sure. We believe your clown a**,' read a top-liked reply, as another person bluntly wrote, 'Bullsh*t. It's because he's a pedophile asking a 15 yr old boy if he's ready to be penetrated.' Another user even pulled up a screenshot that seemingly shows the ban is permanent. The controversy was sparked by a video showing Akademiks engaging in a sexual conversation with a 15-year-old streamer named Nour. In the clip, the Off the Record host is heard saying to the teen, 'You're telling me there's not another 15-year-old you could buss down?' among other inappropriate comments. After the footage made its rounds, Akademiks addressed his misconduct. 'I've done a lot of bulls**t up in this game,' he said. 'Trust me. I've got mine off. This issue aside – which, again. I am wrong. I will be better. This is a teachable moment. For me, obviously, I got to watch my speech. That's clear. […] Definitely a regrettable moment, and we're going to use it as a teachable moment. Because I don't think I've came this far, built this platform, to be that irresponsible, right?' Although he owned up to his behavior, his foes were not satisfied and had plenty to say. Meek Mill urged parents to censor their children from viewing Ak's content. 'If [you're] a parent go get ya kids phone and block this man, he's grooming children with a very large platform that 'kids' like,' Meek, 37, tweeted after a clip of the inappropriate conversation went viral. 'Also attempts to ruin black families and black success daily, 'VILLAN IN THE VILLAGE.'' His words captioned a screenshot of him preparing to block Ak on his own phone. See the post below.
