‘Qawwali is more than music; it's a universal expression of devotion that unites people'
Fresh off his Bollywood playback debut in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira, singer Sagar Bhatia returned to Hyderabad for his third performance in the city. The evening was full of energy as the audience swayed and sang along to his qawwali songs. Speaking to Hyderabad Times , Sagar opened up about his musical roots, inspirations and the strong bond he shares with the city and its listeners. 'I've been drawn to qawwali since childhood' Speaking about his musical roots, he said, 'I've always been drawn to this kind of music. Even as a kid, my voice had a certain depth, and I naturally gravitated towards qawwali,' adding, his journey has been shaped by two musical legends: 'Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab is a huge inspiration, I've learned so much from him. And then there's Gurdas Maan sahab. While qawwalis are usually performed seated, I like to stand and move with the music — that energy, I picked up from him. These two are like gods to me. What I do today comes from their influence.' No matter where I perform, the crowd always joins in, and Hyderabad is no different. However, there's something uniquely special about this place. The audience here has always been incredibly energetic. This is my third performance in the city, and each time, their energy elevates the entire experience.' He also couldn't stop praising the city's food. 'I'm from Delhi, but there's something magical about Hyderabad's spices. I love spicy food, and every meal here is a full experience — I just can't resist it.' 'Spontaneity is the soul of every live performance' Talking about his experience in performing live in India and abroad, he said, 'The stage often brings unexpected moments despite all the planning. I prepare for every tour, but things on stage often take a different turn. Once, during a show, I was performing a track called Biba and had also prepared some shayari for it. But the audience's energy was so infectious that I spontaneously came up with something completely new on the spot — Rukhte rukhte beh gaye na jaane kyun, woh mujhse itna sab kuch keh gaye na jaane kyun. Khwaab saare mere beh gaye na jaane kyun, woh mujhse itna sab kuch keh gaye na jaane kyun. Conclusion yeh hai ki hum toh buddhu ban ke reh gaye na jaane kyun. This entire piece was created in the moment, and the fact that people connected with it so deeply means the world to me.' 'We wrapped up the recording of Khudaya in just 45 minutes' Reflecting on his playback debut Khudaya from Sarfira, he shared, 'It was my first-ever playback experience. That month, I was doing 25–26 back-to-back shows and was completely exhausted. I even told the director I didn't think I could sing. But he said, 'We need this grunge in your voice.' I gave it a try, and it turned out beautifully. I'm grateful to God and the entire Sarfira team, the whole process happened so naturally. In fact, we wrapped up the recording in just 45 minutes.' Quotes: When you sing a Bollywood or indie song, you're usually expressing a specific emotion or telling a story. But qawwali is something else, it's not just music, it's a form of devotion. You can offer it to your love, to God, to your parents, or to any belief you connect with. We don't limit it to one person or religion, and that's what makes it truly universal. Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab and Gurdas Maan sahab have been huge inspirations. They're like gods to me — everything I do today is shaped by their influence - Sarmistha Ganguli

Kesari 2 box office collection Day 13: Akshay Kumar's film hits one last milestone before Ajay Devgn's Raid 2; can it cross Rs 80 crore?
The Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari 2 continues its slow and steady climb up the box office ladder. After a decent opening and a strong first week, the film has maintained its momentum into the second week as well. On Wednesday, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, Kesari 2 raked in Rs 2 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 72.80 crore. The film had minted Rs 46.1 crore during its first week of release. It had a solid second weekend, earning almost as much as it did during its opening weekend. There was a more than 76 percent jump in collections on Saturday, as the film brought in Rs 7.15 crore, followed by a further 13 percent increase on Sunday, when it minted Rs 8.1 crore. This was followed by a collection of Rs 2.75 crore on Monday. Thanks to a special ticket pricing initiative at select venues — Blockbuster Tuesdays — the film maintained steady earnings on Tuesday as well, bringing in Rs 2.65 crore. As per its Day 12 numbers, Kesari 2's worldwide collection stood at Rs 112 crore. However, its steady march toward the Rs 100 crore mark in the domestic market could face a hurdle with the release of Ajay Devgn's highly anticipated Raid 2 on May 1, which coincides with the Labour Day holiday. On Wednesday, Raid 2 minted Rs 6.52 crore in advance ticket sales. This figure doesn't include block seat data. When block seat numbers are included, the film's advance booking collection jumps to Rs 9.68 crore. Also releasing on May 1 is The Bhootnii, starring Sanjay Dutt and Mouni Roy, which is expected to collect Rs 2–3 crore on its opening day. It is also to be noted that both Kesari 2 and Raid 2 are sequels to two highly successful films – Kesari (2019) and Raid (2018). Who will win this box office race is yet to be seen. Despite upcoming competition, Kesari 2 has held its ground remarkably well against other recent releases such as Sunny Deol 's Jaat and Emraan Hashmi 's Ground Zero. Jaat, which released a week before Kesari 2, minted Rs 50 lakh on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Ground Zero, which has been struggling since release, earned Rs 47 lakh on Wednesday, taking its total domestic collection over the first six days to Rs 7.17 crore.

Kesari 2 box office collection day 6: Akshay Kumar's Sky Force earned twice as much in six days, Dharma film earns Rs 42 crore
Kesari 2 box office collection day 6: Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari Chapter 2 might have gotten some promising reviews but this has not translated in the film's box office collections. Except for Sunday, which was its third day in the cinemas, the film has been stuck in single digits at the box office. On Wednesday, the film made Rs 3.2 crore at the box office, taking its nett domestic total to Rs 42.2 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The film made recorded a slight uptick in its collection on Tuesday when it made around Rs 5 crore, which was likely to due to reduced ticket prices. It seems like despite all the positive, Kesari 2 will not be the film that pulls Akshay out of his rut of consecutive flops. Kesari 2 started its box office journey with Rs 7.75 crore at the box office and after a week, it is yet to cross the Rs 50 crore mark. Akshay's last release, Sky Force, which also starred Veer Pahariya, earned Rs 113 crore at the box office in India, as per Sacnilk, after a month in the theatres. At this point, it looks extremely unlikely that Kesari 2 will be able to cross that mark. After six days in the cinemas, Sky Force had made Rs 81 crore, which is almost double of Kesari 2's collections. However, trade analyst Komal Nahta had accused makers of indulging in block bookings and claimed, 'The total for 1st week was Rs. 40.50 crore. Of course, the records will show total collections of Rs 80 crore but that's because heavy block booking of the unsold tickets was done on each single day of the first week to give the impression that the film was performing extraordinarily at the ticket counters.' Kesari 2's next big competitor is Rajkumar Gupta's thriller Raid 2 starring Ajay Devgn, Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, and Saurabh Shukla. It's slated to release on May 1. Directed by first-time filmmaker Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari 2 is produced by Karan Johar 's Dharma Productions. It's the spiritual sequel to Anurag Singh's hit 2019 historical war drama Kesari, also starring Akshay. The sequel narrates the true story of lawyer C Sankaran Nair, who fought a legal battle against the British empire in the 1920s. Akshay Kumar plays Nair, Ananya Panday plays his associate Diljit Gill. Madhavan essays his legal adversary Neville McKinley. The film also stars Regina Cassandra as Akshay's wife, Luke Kenny as a British judge, and Masaba Gupta in a special dance song. Kesari 2 is narrated by Vicky Kaushal, who famously starred as Udham Singh in another film based on the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 2021 — Shoojit Sircar's Sardar Udham, which released on Prime Video India.
