Government Approves Justifications for Amending the National Service Law - Jordan News

Government Approves Justifications for Amending the National Service Law In its Wednesday session chaired by Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, the Council of Ministers approved the justifications for a draft amendment to the National Service and Reserve Service Law for 2025, ahead of its submission to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete the official procedures for issuance and grant it an urgent status for presentation at the next parliamentary session. اضافة اعلان The decision follows Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II's announcement to reactivate the National Service program. The Prime Minister affirmed that the government will complete the necessary preparations for its implementation in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces, starting February next year, with resources allocated from this year's emergency expenditures and the 2026 budget. The draft law regulates provisions related to new legal requirements for activating and implementing the program, including acceptable deferral cases, such as for residents abroad who must return to service once deferral reasons end. It also enables the Jordanian Armed Forces to offer training programs at military centers and institutes for conscripts, allowing educational institutions to count them toward university requirements according to Cabinet-issued instructions. The law also repeals provisions granting conscripts who complete national service any priority in appointments in ministries, government institutions, or private sector companies. Personal Rights Regulation The Cabinet also approved the 2025 Personal Rights Regulation to protect individual data and enhance trust in digital commerce and services. The regulation organizes procedures for obtaining prior consent for any data processing purpose, withdrawing consent, usage, complaint mechanisms, and responses, supporting engagement in the digital economy and promoting e-commerce while ensuring personal data is handled within legal limits. It defines individuals' legal rights regarding their personal data, outlines company obligations, and sets procedures for objections and complaints. Medical Plants System The Cabinet approved the justifications for an amended Medical Plants System for 2025, to be submitted to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau. The system aims to keep pace with scientific and technological developments in the use of medicinal plants and derivatives for medical, pharmaceutical, or scientific purposes, enhance investment opportunities, and promote human health and safety. Settlement of 419 Pending Tax Cases Continuing its efforts to support investment, the government approved the settlement of 419 pending cases between taxpayers and the Income and Sales Tax Department under legal provisions. Appointments The Cabinet also approved the transfer of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Jamal Qutaishat, to serve as Secretary-General for Technical Affairs in the ministry.
