NHRC chief, Lebanese officials pledge to enhance human rights efforts
QNA Beirut Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah met with a number of officials and representatives of civil society organisations during a series of meetings held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, to enhance cooperation inhuman rights. The NHRC chairperson began her meetings with Dr. Michel Moussa, chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee in the Lebanese Parliament. During the meeting, they emphasised the importance of cooperation in organising relevant events, research, and activities, in partnership with the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions and parliamentary institutions. She also reviewed Qatar's efforts to support the Palestinian people, particularly in the areas of humanitarian aid, contributing to the ceasefire, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. She expressed her concern over the policy of starvation and obstruction of relief pursued by the occupation authorities, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the Strip. She praised Lebanon's role in supporting the Palestinian cause, stressing the importance of ending double standards and preventing impunity. In another meeting, Al Attiyah met with Dr. Fadi Gerges, chairman of the Lebanese National Commission for Human Rights, which includes the Committee for the Prevention of Torture, along with several heads of civil society organisations concerned with the rights of persons with disabilities, women, and children. During the meeting, they discussed launching joint projects and initiatives, developing legislation, supporting complaint mechanisms, and strengthening national alliances for the protection of rights. She praised the Lebanese Commission's efforts in monitoring prisons, receiving complaints, and engaging internationally. She affirmed the support of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in Qatar, particularly with regard to reviewing accreditation files and providing expertise that contributed to the Qatari NHRC's attainment of an 'A' rating from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. Al Attiyah also called on civil society organisations to benefit from the United Nations human rights mechanisms and reviewed the NHRC's efforts to promote the rights of vulnerable groups, stressing Qatar's commitment to strengthening partnerships with Lebanon, which would contribute to improving the human rights situation in both countries.

NHRC developing educational guides to promote human rights awareness among students: Al Attiyah
QNA Beirut The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is currently working on developing educational guides targeted at the primary, preparatory, and secondary levels, which were previously issued in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, to promote human rights awareness among students, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah said. In her speech during the high-level meeting on developing a guiding manual of best practices and experiences in human rights education in the Arab region, held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, Al Attiyah noted that this development aims to integrate human rights concepts into educational curricula in line with universal human rights principles and the values and customs of Qatari society. The meeting included participation from the National Human Rights Commission in Lebanon, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), headquartered in Doha, and the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre for Human Rights in the Arab Region and Southwest Asia. She added that the Committee continues its awareness efforts in this field through training kits, courses, campaigns, workshops, and competitions organized in schools, explaining that during the first half of this year, the Committee held 29 activities benefiting 1,245 male and female students. Al Attiyah emphasised that human rights education is one of the Committee's top priorities and represents a fundamental pillar in building prosperous and sustainable societies, calling for highlighting the best practices and experiences in the Arab region to encourage, support, and benefit from them in developing relevant guiding manuals. The chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee expressed the Committee's hope that this meeting would contribute to enhancing various aspects of human rights education in the region, particularly regarding the integration of fundamental human rights concepts into the educational process and the adoption of methods and mechanisms that support a human rights-based approach. She pointed out that human rights education contributes to the development of knowledge, values, and skills, in addition to instilling the values of dignity, equality, non-discrimination, freedom, and justice. She added that the Committee is aware of the challenges facing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula, yet it recognises the great opportunities that societies can gain by raising future generations with a culture of human rights. She affirmed the Committee's determination to move forward in this direction through clear plans that take into account the cultural, social, and civilisational values of Qatari society. Al Attiyah affirmed the NHRC's keenness to involve teachers, parents, and students themselves in relevant consultations and meetings, and to listen to the voices of children and youth on various topics raised in national forums, stressing the importance of ensuring the participation of students with disabilities and facilitating their access to all activities. She noted that the Committee's efforts align with constitutional requirements that affirm the Qatari society's foundation on five essential pillars: justice, benevolence, freedom, equality, and noble morals. These efforts also align with Qatar National Vision 2030. She affirmed the National Human Rights Committee's full support for the efforts to develop the guiding manual for human rights education in the Arab region, expressing hope that the outcomes of the meeting would contribute to enhancing the integration of human rights concepts into educational curricula and developing methods and tools that foster generations capable of upholding these values.

QARS participates in Int'l Amateur Radio Exhibition
QNA Doha The Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) participated in the world's biggest event for amateur radio enthusiasts, the International Amateur Radio Exhibition in Friedrichshafen, Germany. QARS's pavilion at the exhibition, which wrapped up Sunday, drew significant interest from participants, who were introduced to the specifications of Qatari satellite Es'hail-2 launched in 2018. The Es'hail-2 presentation was the most watched among all the other presentations delivered by participating amateur radio clubs and societies. The International Amateur Radio Exhibition hosts the largest gathering of amateur radio organisations from around the world, along with numerous manufacturers of amateur radio equipment and devices, and several international and regional bodies involved in the hobby. The participants also take part in seminars and lectures held alongside the exhibition. The event includes a global forum for amateur radio enthusiasts, where topics related to the hobby and ways to develop it are discussed, particularly in light of the rapid growth in communications and information technology. The exhibition also features displays of the latest and most advanced amateur radio equipment and devices, the holding of international licensing exams for aspiring amateur radio operators, in addition to honoring international enthusiasts who have long supported the hobby. QARS Chairman Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah expressed his happiness with the Society's participation in the International Amateur Radio Exhibition, following several successful past appearances. Al Attiyah emphasised the importance of Qatari members attending such international events, where the QARS sets up its own pavilion to showcase Qatar's key achievements in recent years, along with the Society's notable accomplishments in the amateur radio community both regionally and globally. He added that the exhibition presents a valuable opportunity for Qatari amateur radio enthusiasts to gain international experience, exchange knowledge with global experts, and stay updated on the latest technological advancements in amateur radio equipment and systems.

NHRC chief urges nations to embed equality in laws
QNA Geneva Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah has called for encouraging countries to incorporate the concept of equality into legislation and public policies and to adopt temporary positive measures to enhance women's participation in all fields. In her remarks during the 59th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Al Attiyah highlighted the progress made by the State of Qatar in this field, as well as in many countries around the world, and pointed out the challenges that continue to hinder women's empowerment. Al Attiyah stated that the forefront of these challenges is climate change, armed conflicts, rising rates of migration and displacement, in addition to the unethical use of emerging technologies that deepen violence, discrimination, and the digital gender divide. As part of the NHRC's efforts in the State of Qatar as well as in monitoring national and international efforts to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, Al Attiyah said that the Committee recommends supporting conflict-affected countries in implementing national action plans related to the Resolution 1325, to ensure the effective participation of women in peace, security, recovery, and reconstruction efforts, in accordance with the General Recommendation No. 30 of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), in addition to emphasizing the importance of women's participation in policymaking and decision-making processes, in line with the principle of inclusivity and ensuring that women take part in shaping the future of their communities.

5th Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference, Exhibition kicks Off
DOHA: The fifth edition of the Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference & Exhibition 2025, organized by the Ministry of Municipality under the theme 'From Waste to Wealth', has kicked. The two-day event is being attended by a number of the Ministers, with broad participation from government and semi-government institutions, private sector companies, local factories, numerous international entities, and a host of experts. Minister of Municipality HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah stated that the conference offers a leading national and international platform for exchanging experiences and expertise. It embodies the Ministry's commitment to translating Qatar National Vision 2030 into concrete projects that promote the circular economy and enhance the quality of life through an integrated waste management system. In his opening remarks at the Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference & Exhibition, the minister highlighted the Ministry's key achievements in 2024, including the conversion of more than 835,000 tons of waste at transfer stations, generating more than 40,000 megawatt-hours of energy, 27,000 tons of organic fertilizer, and 277,000 tons of recyclable materials, in addition to the allocation of 51 specific plots of land in the Al Afjah area, the launch of 30 investment opportunities, and the provision of more than 28,000 tons of sorted materials to the private sector free of charge in support of the circular economy. He also noted the launch of specific initiatives within the 'Zero Waste'program, including the construction of a modern landfill, the rehabilitation of old landfills, and the operation of an advanced sorting station in Al Khor, in addition to digital transformation projects that developed a unified driving system, vehicle tracking, and the immediate issuance of waste disposal permits electronically. Al Attiyah noted that the conference's theme, 'From Waste to Wealth',reflects a firm belief that waste represents a promising economic opportunity and an important source of sustainable development. He added that the visions, experiences, and partnerships presented will contribute to promoting a culture of sustainability and providing practical, applicable solutions. The current edition features 11 panel discussions and 35 international speakers, focusing on the latest innovative solutions in waste treatment, strengthening public-private partnerships, and examining the role of education and content creators in spreading a culture of sustainability. The conference is accompanied by an exhibition in which more than 40 exhibitors are taking part, including the Ministry of Municipality and private sector companies, to showcase the latest technologies and initiatives in the field of recycling. This annual event is part of the Ministry of Municipality's efforts to realize Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting sustainability practices and expanding the scope of circular economy, contributing to building a prosperous future for generations to come.
