Bayern Munich's Aleksandar Pavlovic sidelined until September
reports that Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic will be sidelined through the coming Bundesliga season's first international break. Pavlovic underwent eye socket surgery last week. The nature of the procedure will keep him out for the duration of the month. A return in September is targeted. Pavlovic – who missed a number of games last season due to injury and illness – will thus not be an option for Bayern's Supercup date with Stuttgart, the opening round Pokal fixture against SV Wehen Wiesbaden, or the first two Bundesliga fixtures against RB Leipzig and FC Augsburg. Bayern face Hamburg in their first league match after the break. Until then, veteran midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka look to anchor the midfield. Young German phenom Tom Bischof shall also look to take advantage of his chances to earn minutes. FCB head coach Vincent Kompany has been rotating the trio in Bayern's first two preseason friendlies. Bayern play VfB Stuttgart in the German Super Cup final on Aug 16 before beginning their Bundesliga title defence against RB Leipzig at home six days later.

Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic has undergone surgery after sustaining an eye socket fracture. Pavlovic, 21, suffered the injury in training on Friday and while Bayern confirmed he is set for a spell on the sidelines, the club did not provide a timeframe for his return. The Germany international made 33 appearances in all competitions last season as Bayern won the Bundesliga, including featuring in all five of his side's matches in their run to the quarter-finals of this summer's Club World Cup. Advertisement The Athletic reported on Friday fellow defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha was set to undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a season-long loan move. The deal includes the option to make the transfer permanent for €30million (£25.9m, $34.2m) at the end of the season, and Spurs will cover his wages in full. Bayern are already without playmaker Jamal Musiala, who is set to miss the opening months of the season after fracturing his fibula in July. Full-back Alphonso Davies has also been sidelined since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in March. Pavlovic established himself in the Bayern first team during the 2023-24 campaign and was subsequently rewarded with a new contract through to 2029. He made his Germany debut in June 2024, but was ruled out of the European Championship that summer due to tonsillitis. He was sidelined for over a month between October and December after suffering a broken collarbone, and missed eight matches through illness between February and April. Bayern play Stuttgart in the German Super Cup on August 16 and begin their Bundesliga title defence against RB Leipzig on August 22.
