Cadillac Captures First FIA WEC Win in Dominant Fashion at Interlagos
The Cadillacs dominated the 6 Hours of São Paulo after Alex Lynn put the No. 12 team on pole and the No. 38, making up their one position lost to a penalty in qualifying for second. This gave the Cadillac its first win as a manufacturer since it joined the WEC in 2023, a 1-2 finish, and marks the first race of 2025 not won by a red or yellow Ferrari. "Personally, this is year number 3 of racing this car," Lynn said on the WEC broadcast. "Many hours of racing the Cadillac V Series.R to finally win a race in the World Endurance Championship, you can not imagine what it feels like, honestly. I'm hugely proud of everyone." Hertz Team JOTA took its first victory in the No. 12 last year as a Porsche 963 with Will Stevens in the car, with Callum Ilott as Lynn was racing in Formula E this weekend. This weekend marks the first time Stevens and Lynn record a win together, and most importantly, the first win for Cadillac since joining WEC. With the Cadillac 1-2, they jump from fourth to second in the Manufacturer Championship, finishing in front of the Porsches in fourth and fifth, and Toyota failing to land either car in a points-paying position. While overall victory at Le Mans is still the goal for Cadillac, a maiden victory does a lot to lift the spirits of the No. 12 team. The No. 12 lost the lead to their teammates in the No. 38 early in the race due to a drive-through penalty served by Will Stevens for a tire pressure infringement. Lynn took the lead back before the halfway mark. At the halfway mark, Lynn had an 11.804-second lead over Button in the No. 38, which was stretched to 57.016 by the end of the race, with Norman Nato over Sebastien Bourdais. BMW finished fifth, nearly another minute behind the second Porsche, ahead of the Peugeots that had their best finishes of the year with the No. 94 in sixth and No. 93 in seventh. Ferrari's factory teams of the No. 50 and No. 51 joined Toyota, also finishing outside of the top ten, failing to secure points for the first time this season. The No. 83 Works Ferrari finished eighth. Cadillac Locks Up WEC Front Row in Brazil, Both Factory Ferraris Miss Hyperpole
Cadillac backed up its 1-2 start at Le Mans last month with a front row lock-up ahead of the Six Hours São Paulo, with Alex Lynn in the No. 12 Cadillac V-Series.R taking pole in Hyperpole by a tenth over Sebastien Bourdais in the No. 38 sister car. "It feels great to be on pole again, it's a special feeling to drive the Cadillac on one lap," Lynn said on the WEC broadcast about his back-to-back podiums. "We knew we needed to start at the front for this race," Lynn continued. The No. 5 Porsche 963, piloted by Julien Andlauer, took third with 21-year-old Malthe Jakobsen following in fourth for Peugeot's best qualifying results of the season in the No. 94. Both Peugeot 9X8 made Hyperpole for the first time. With the No. 93 lining up behind its sister Peugeot, with the No. 20 BMW in between. With a major BoP adjustment to Ferrari, both factory red Ferraris failed to qualify for the top ten and thus missed out on hyperpole. Le Mans winning Robert Kubica brought the yellow Ferrari into Hyperpole and will start ninth ahead of the factory cars of NO. 50 and No. 51 in 14th and 17th respectively. "It was to be expected," Nicklas Nielsen said following his teammate's missed qualifying time. "Antonio [Fuoco] was on a good lap but caught a Porsche, and it messed up the quali. If you look at the Toyotas as well, they are struggling. To win the race, we will need a miracle. It's going to be difficult to pass cars when starting at the back." Qualifying at Interlagos is notorious for drivers getting held up in short qualifying timing slots on the narrow track. In the race passing will be difficult with the majority of overtaking occurs during the race in the 'Senna S's' through turns 1 and 2. Why Cadillac's Alex Lynn "waited 12 months" for 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours qualifying
Cadillac driver Alex Lynn has heralded his pole position for this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours as extra special after being narrowly beaten into second 12 months ago. Lynn, who headed a Jota Caddy 1-2 on the completion of the new Le Mans qualifying format, revealed that his thoughts were drawn back to last year when he held the pole as the chequered flag fell only for Porsche driver Kevin Estre to snatch it from his grasp by just over a tenth. Advertisement 'Pole at Le Mans is special no matter [what], but I have to say personally I've waited 12 months to do this again,' said the Briton, who last year was racing in the World Endurance Championship for the Ganassi team prior to Jota taking over the factory Cadillac programme. 'P2 last year was one tenth off the pole, but it felt like 100 miles away: there is a big difference between P1 and P2 in the feeling. 'I was remembering last year when I thought I had it and 30s later Kevin Estre comes over the line.' Lynn, who became the first Briton to take outright pole for Le Mans since Johnny Herbert in 2004, described the period until the other cars on hot laps in the 15-minute Hyperpole 2 session had crossed the line as a 'hard wait'. Pole sitter Alex Lynn, Cadillac Hertz Team Jota Pole sitter Alex Lynn, Cadillac Hertz Team Jota Jota team-mate Earl Bamber did improve his time, ending up just over a tenth behind Lynn to make it a Caddy 1-2. Advertisement Lynn claimed the pole on his third lap on a set of Michelin medium compound tyres. He was third after his first lap before jumping to second behind Porsche driver Mathieu Jaminet next time around. But Lynn, who shares the #12 Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh with Will Stevens and Norman Nato, revealed that he lost time at Indianapolis Corner and had to make a series of car adjustments on his pole lap as a result. Read Also: 'We went very aggressive on diff settings and it wasn't quite the way to go, so on the next lap I was frantically adjusting everything on the fly,' he explained. 'It was a hard-work lap, shall we say.' Advertisement Lynn stopped the clock at 3m23.166s, which compared with Bamber's 3m23.333s and Jaminet's 3m23.475s. Jota co-owner David Clark described the 1-2 qualifying result as a 'dream'. 'I can't say enough about how hard everyone has worked; that's the whole team not just the drivers,' he said. 'If it is like this at four o'clock on Sunday, bring it on!' Cadillac locks out front row in Le Mans qualifying
Cadillac locked out the front row in qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race for the first time on Thursday with Britain's Alex Lynn securing pole position. Lynn set a best time of 3:23.166 seconds in the No 12 Team Jota Cadillac at the Sarthe circuit with New Zealand's Earl Bamber putting the sister 38 car alongside and 0.167 slower. Lynn shares his car with compatriot Will Stevens and Frenchman Norman Nato while Bamber's teammates are 2009 Formula One world champion Jenson Button and French four-times Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais. "I can't tell you how much I wanted this," said Lynn, who missed out on pole last year by a mere 0.138, over the team radio. "One tenth last year hurt a lot. I'm truly honoured to be able to put in a performance like that in front of everyone and deliver for Cadillac in the way they deserve," he added after getting out of the car. "This is a magical circuit and this is a special feeling. I can't describe it. We will enjoy this tonight, have a good sleep and re-set." GM-owned Cadillac are the first American marque to take outright pole at Le Mans since Ford in 1967. The No 5 Porsche Penske was third fastest, after threatening to take pole, with France's Julien Andlauer, Denmark's Michael Christensen and France's Mathieu Jaminet. The No 15 BMW qualified in fourth place with Belgian Dries Vanthoor, Swiss-Italian Raffaele Marciello and Danish former F1 driver Kevin Magnussen. Defending champions Ferrari, outright winners for the past two years, had Italian Antonio Fuoco, Denmark's Nicklas Nielsen and Spaniard Miguel Molina in seventh place in last year's winning car No 50. The 93rd edition of the race starts on Saturday at 4pm.
