Why Cadillac's Alex Lynn "waited 12 months" for 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours qualifying

Yahoo17 hours ago

Cadillac driver Alex Lynn has heralded his pole position for this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours as extra special after being narrowly beaten into second 12 months ago.
Lynn, who headed a Jota Caddy 1-2 on the completion of the new Le Mans qualifying format, revealed that his thoughts were drawn back to last year when he held the pole as the chequered flag fell only for Porsche driver Kevin Estre to snatch it from his grasp by just over a tenth.

'Pole at Le Mans is special no matter [what], but I have to say personally I've waited 12 months to do this again,' said the Briton, who last year was racing in the World Endurance Championship for the Ganassi team prior to Jota taking over the factory Cadillac programme.
'P2 last year was one tenth off the pole, but it felt like 100 miles away: there is a big difference between P1 and P2 in the feeling.
'I was remembering last year when I thought I had it and 30s later Kevin Estre comes over the line.'
Lynn, who became the first Briton to take outright pole for Le Mans since Johnny Herbert in 2004, described the period until the other cars on hot laps in the 15-minute Hyperpole 2 session had crossed the line as a 'hard wait'.

Jota team-mate Earl Bamber did improve his time, ending up just over a tenth behind Lynn to make it a Caddy 1-2.

Lynn claimed the pole on his third lap on a set of Michelin medium compound tyres. He was third after his first lap before jumping to second behind Porsche driver Mathieu Jaminet next time around.
But Lynn, who shares the #12 Cadillac V-Series.R LMDh with Will Stevens and Norman Nato, revealed that he lost time at Indianapolis Corner and had to make a series of car adjustments on his pole lap as a result.

'We went very aggressive on diff settings and it wasn't quite the way to go, so on the next lap I was frantically adjusting everything on the fly,' he explained. 'It was a hard-work lap, shall we say.'

Lynn stopped the clock at 3m23.166s, which compared with Bamber's 3m23.333s and Jaminet's 3m23.475s.
Jota co-owner David Clark described the 1-2 qualifying result as a 'dream'.
'I can't say enough about how hard everyone has worked; that's the whole team not just the drivers,' he said. 'If it is like this at four o'clock on Sunday, bring it on!'

New Ford Mustang GTD Leak Details Options, Pricing, And MPG Figures

New Ford Mustang GTD Leak Details Options, Pricing, And MPG Figures originally appeared on Autoblog. When the Ford Mustang GTD was unveiled, a few details were missing from the specification sheet, such as its exact starting price, gas mileage, optional extras, and a more complete list of standard equipment. We can now answer all of these questions, thanks to a leaked window sticker on the Mustang 7G forum, for what is the most extreme and fastest road-going Mustang ever conceived. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD has a base price of $318,760, slightly exceeding the previously estimated cost of $300k. It's still far and away the most expensive Mustang you can buy for the road. For some more perspective, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, one of the ultimate track toys, starts at $241,300. The GTD's base price isn't all that one has to take into consideration, though. It's also liable for a gas guzzler tax of $3,700, while the destination and delivery charge is a lot more for this exclusive Ford than for your everyday Mustang, at $5,500. We imagine that extra care is taken to ensure your GTD arrives at the showroom without so much as a speck of dust on the windshield. Besides the extraordinary MSRP, the Mustang GTD is also laughably heavy on gas. The window sticker indicates it'll do only 10/17/12 mpg across the city/highway/combined cycles. The Ferrari Purosangue - with all 6.5 liters of engine capacity and 12 cylinders - is more efficient than this Mustang in city driving, at 11 mpg. According to the EPA, you will use 8.3 gallons of gas in the GTD per 100 miles, while spending $12,500 more in fuel costs over five years than the average new car. The annual fuel cost of the Mustang is around $4,400, but that's based on covering 15,000 miles per year, which most GTDs are unlikely to ever do. The Mustang GTD gets a host of extras over and above normal Mustangs, and these demonstrate what a specialized beast it is. As standard, you get an Akrapovic titanium exhaust, Brembo brakes with carbon ceramic rotors, various carbon fiber body panels, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. Inside, there is a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and a 13.2-inch touchscreen with graphics that are unique to the GTD. If you tire of the sound of that 5.2-liter V8, there's a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Recaro racing seats will hold occupants firmly in place. The customer who ordered this particular GTD added red brake calipers for $1,500 and an exposed carbon fiber roof for $10,000. The Equipment Group 100A appears not to have any cost, and includes a fixed wing, black seat belts, and a painted black lower surround. Overall, this customer had to cough up $339,460 for this Mustang GTD. The Mustang GTD is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine with an output of 815 horsepower. All of that is transferred to the rear wheels via an eight-speed Tremec dual-clutch transaxle. A special racing, semi-active suspension and all that grunt allowed the GTD to become the first American sports car to lap the Nurburgring in under seven minutes along the circuit's 12.9-mile stretch. The official time was six minutes and 52.072 seconds. Flat out, the Mustang GTD will reach a top speed of 202 mph, easily trumping the fastest 911 GT3, which can "only" reach 194 mph. It's been over a year since Ford began accepting applications for the Mustang GTD, but even that won't guarantee you one of these Mustangs, as Ford goes through a discerning process to determine who is worthy enough to buy it. Toyota's New GR Hypercar Concept Is a Hydrogen-Fueled Spectacle

Toyota has unveiled its GR LH2 Racing Concept featuring a hydrogen engine paired with a hybrid system at the Circuit de la Sarthe days ahead of the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The GR LH2 is designed to advance the development of hydrogen tech in motorsports and mark the 40th anniversary of the automaker's first Le Mans run. According to Toyota, the GR LH2 is based on its GR010 Hybrid Hypercar used in the World Endurance Championship, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans as its flagship event. While Toyota didn't provide many details on the concept's powertrain or hydrogen system, they were built at Japan's Higashi-Fuji Technical Centre. The chassis, the same as in the GR010, was manufactured at Toyota's Gazoo Racing facility in Cologne, Germany. Toyota's GR LH2 is the GR H2 Concept's successor, and distinguishes itself from its predecessor with new bodywork, such as remodeled side intakes, a taller rear wing, and a larger fin. The LH2 also differs from the GR H2 with its striking white-and-blue livery and smaller front LED lights, but its greenhouse resembles the previous concept. Official measurements for the LH2 are 5100mm (200.7 inches) in length and 2050mm (80.7 inches) in width. "Toyota has been the pioneer for hydrogen combustion engine technology since 2021 in Super Taikyu racing in Japan," said Kazuki Nakajima, former F1 driver and Team Director and Vice Chairman of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe. Toyota's sister team, Rookie Racing, participated in the Japanese Super Taikyu series in 2021 with a gaseous hydrogen-engine Corolla, before switching to a liquid hydrogen-powered car in 2023. In 2022, Toyota displayed the potential of hydrogen engines in rally racing with a GR Yaris H2 at the Ypres Rally in the FIA World Rally Championship. A year later, the hydrogen-engine Corolla completed a demonstration lap at Circuit de la Sarthe, and the GR H2 Racing Concept was showcased to preview a potential hydrogen category at Le Mans. The GR H2 was a static concept, but the GR LH2 is a running test car. Nakajima noted that Toyota has been pushing to introduce hydrogen as energy while maintaining a racing engine's noise, sensation, and vibration. Toyota Gazoo Racing endurance driver and team principal Kamui Kobayashi said Toyota's performance division made the GR LH2 to highlight future carbon-neutral possibilities while enhancing its motorsport presence. Toyota's decision to limit information released on the new GR LH2 could signal noteworthy progress on its hydrogen initiatives. Since 2021, Toyota has continually built on its hydrogen innovation in motorsport, and the GR LH2's ability to function as a running test car is another significant step. Kamui Kobayashi, Nyck Devries, and Mike Conway will compete for Toyota Gazoo Racing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans' Hypercar event from June 14 to 15. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc.
