Wings rumors: Insider suggests DiJonai Carrington could be trade candidate

The post Wings rumors: Insider suggests DiJonai Carrington could be trade candidate appeared first on ClutchPoints. Dallas Wings forward DiJonai Carrington has endured an up and down first season with the team. Dallas acquired Carrington via trade during the offseason. With Carrington set to enter free agency following the '25 campaign, could the Wings consider moving her ahead of the upcoming WNBA trade deadline? Alexa Philippou of ESPN recently claimed she has heard Carrington's name mentioned as a possible trade candidate, something she said on ESPN, via Shabazz on X, formerly Twitter. 'There are a few teams I'm keeping my eye on,' Philippou said. 'Dallas is one of them. They're a team… already made an in-season trade to offload NaLyssa Smith, I've heard the name DiJonai Carrington brought up in WNBA circles about someone who could potentially be on the move.' In all reality, Philippou is not making some extremely bold declaration about Carrington's future. There is certainly still a chance that the forward will remain in Dallas past the trade deadline. With that being said, Carrington's future with the Wings is far from certain. Dallas is rebuilding and trading her for picks/younger players may be an option. Carrington, 27, is averaging 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals per outing across 19 games played so far in the 2025 season. A strong defender, Carrington could instantly impact a contender. Her offense has been far from consistent this year, but teams would likely still be open to adding a player with respectable offensive and stellar defensive potential. The Wings will have multiple challenging decisions to make before the upcoming trade deadline. Players such as DiJonai Carrington, Arike Ogunbowale and Teaira McCowan are all set to enter WNBA free agency following the season. That does not mean they will all be traded, but Dallas, as mentioned, will have difficult decisions to make. The 2025 WNBA trade deadline is scheduled for August 7 at 3 PM EST. Fever's Caitlin Clark provides massive injury update

The post Fever's Caitlin Clark provides massive injury update appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Indiana Fever (3-4) have big ambitions this season, but they cannot accomplish them without Caitlin Clark. The sensational guard has missed the last three games with a quadriceps strain, and fans are eager to find out when she will get back on the court. They received some promising news on Thursday. Clark told reporters she is progressing nicely in her recovery and will be re-evaluated over the weekend, per ESPN's Alexa Philippou. Advertisement The All-WNBA First-Team selection is not ruling out a return in Tuesday's road matchup versus the Atlanta Dream, but she is exercising caution. 'I feel like I've made a lot of progress, and I feel good, and not gonna rush coming back,' Clark said, per Philippou. 'It's just not worth it.' The longer the 2024 Rookie of the Year is out, the harder it will be for Indiana to build momentum during the 2025 campaign. However, the team has virtually no chance of doing anything worthwhile in the playoffs if the phenom suffers a serious setback and is stuck on the bench for the rest of the year. The Fever will trudge on without Clark for now, knowing what they are capable of when at full strength. Indy is 1-2 in the 23-year-old's absence, ending a three-game skid with an 85-76 victory over the Washington Mystics this past Tuesday. Perhaps Kelsey Mitchell and company can earn back-to-back wins for the first time this year when they battle the Chicago Sky (2-4) in Wintrust Arena on Saturday night. Considering the ratings magic the Clark-Reese rivalry invariably creates, along with the players' viral exchange in the season opener, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert is surely cursing the basketball gods for keeping the face of the league out of action for that contest. Nonetheless, the show must go on. Advertisement A healthy Caitlin Clark is good for the entire sport. Fortunately, it sounds like that scenario is close to becoming a reality once again. Liberty tie own WNBA record in 48-point demolition of Sun

The post Liberty tie own WNBA record in 48-point demolition of Sun appeared first on ClutchPoints. Coming off winning the WNBA championship, the New York Liberty are showing this season that they're looking to get another one as they've started the season undefeated. Their recent win just came against the Connecticut Sun, where they defeated them 100-52. Advertisement With that win, they tied their own record for a margin of victory, according to ESPN's Alexa Philippou. 'That 48-point margin of victory is the second-largest in WNBA history. The defending champs tied their league-record of 19 3-point makes that they set earlier this season,' Philippou wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The Liberty shot 62% from the field and 59% from the 3-point line, while racking up 29 assists. No one had a dominant game, but everyone contributed and helped get the win. Sabrina Ionescu led the way with 18 points, and Jonquel Jones, Breanna Stewart, and Leonie Fiebich all had 13 points apiece. It's obvious that the Liberty are playing at a level higher than everybody right now, and they're off to their best start of a season since 1997. The Liberty and the Minnesota Lynx are the two undefeated teams left in the league, as they were both in the Finals last season. At this point, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them back in the Finals the way they've been playing. Advertisement Stewart recently shared what separates the Liberty from the rest of the league. 'Our bench and our depth is what separates us from anyone else, the ability to go this deep and know that there's gonna be just consistency in everything that we do,' Stewart said. 'I'm happy that everybody's coming in with confidence all the time.' The Liberty are deep, and they have star power in their starting five that is hard to compete with. If they can keep playing at this level, they'll definitely be back in the Finals competing for another championship.
