A Lot Of Outfit Spoilers Have Already Come Out For The Devil Wears Prada 2. How Does The Creative Team Feel?
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. At this point, it's very evident that The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in production in New York City. While the film remains in the works under the production name 'Cerulean,' New Yorkers have been able to watch the Prada cast run in and out of buildings in absolutely stunning designer clothes. The stars sometimes even wave at fans who stop and watch the production. As a result, many of the costume choices have circulated online and, now, a member of the creative team is commenting on how they feel about the leaks. Prada 2 scribe Aline Brosh McKenna recently caught up with IndieWire and opened up about being excited to work with the all-star cast. She also discussed the on-set photos fans have shared online. It may be easy to assume that the team would have been bummed out about these costume 'spoilers' dropping before the movie is even finished filming. However, McKenna doesn't feel any sort of negative feelings, and she explained why that's the case: People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love because seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially since it's a fashion movie. We knew there would be a lot of interest. It would be hard to prevent fans from wanting a sneak peak at the wardrobe choices, especially considering the movie is filming in one of the most heavily trafficked cities in the world, and fashion is such a draw to the film. When the sequel was greenlit, the potential wardrobe choices were speculated upon arguably due to the iconic nature of the first film. The Devil Wears Prada encapsulated early 2000s designer fashion and style. It's imperative that the sequel encapsulates the modern era and how fashion has evolved as these characters have gotten older. Thankfully, it seems like costume designer Molly Rogers has done a great job with her choices. One of the main ways that fashion has evolved is through tailoring and unlike in the early 2000s, high-end fashion is about more suit-like pieces that are well structured. You can see this encapsulated in on-set fashion photos of Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep, who both are wearing sleek trousers and blazers that emulate this modern fashion focus. You can see a photo from set below: Aline Brosh McKenna also pointed out that it's not just the fashion that's changed since 2006. Social media is now a factor, as evidenced by the viral set photos. Shooting movies in the 2000s could arguably be a bit more quiet, even despite some potential paparazzi. Fans weren't snapping photos with iPhones that will be uploaded on social media, and movie elements like Emily Blunt's stylish costume weren't broadcast to the world so immediately. The writer explained: I personally hadn't experienced this level of people coming out [to the set], but it's the world we live in. In many ways, we're speaking to a different world than we did in 2006. … It stems from like a legitimate desire to see these characters again. As long as everyone's safe, what an honor that people are still interested. Well, I'm glad that the creatives are seeing this kind of attention as a positive rather than a negative. Fans have been waiting almost 20 years to see these characters on the big screen again, and the sight of the all-star cast together in character again is so exciting. Even though the costumes may have been seen by the world, the Devil Wears Prada 2 script is still being kept under wraps, so fans still have much to speculate about before the movie finally hits theaters. Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle: From $10.99 A MonthFans of The Devil Wears Prada should definitely invest in Disney+ and Hulu, which has the film. Pay $10.99 a month for both services and receive access to a vast amount of content. There's also the choice to pay $19.99 a month for the ad-free Deal The Devil Wears Prada 2 releases on May 1st, 2026. ‘The Devil Wears Prada' Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna Doesn't Mind Those Viral Sequel Set Photos
Are you looking at 'The Devil Wears Prada' sequel set photos? Yeah, we are — and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna approves. While fans are clamoring for a peek at Anne Hathaway back as Andy Sachs and Meryl Streep reprising her Oscar-nominated role of Miranda Priestly (allegedly inspired by Anna Wintour), 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' photos have already ignited a viral storm: Are the images spoiling the fashion? Or perhaps even the plot? More from IndieWire James Gunn to Write and Direct Next Film About the DCEU's 'Super-Family' Paramount Closes Deal to Merge with Skydance After Settling '60 Minutes' Lawsuit McKenna disagrees. In fact, she welcomes the online discord and can even relate to the excitement. 'People will stand outside just for a glimpse of these actors and these characters that they love because seeing them in wardrobe has really excited people, especially since it's a fashion movie,' McKenna told IndieWire while on set filming on the Met steps. 'We knew there would be a lot of interest. I personally hadn't experienced this level of people coming out [to the set], but it's the world we live in. In many ways, we're speaking to a different world than we did in 2006. … It stems from like a legitimate desire to see these characters again. As long as everyone's safe, what an honor that people are still interested.' 'The Devil Wears Prada' hit theaters in 2006, with its sequel now set for a release in 2026 in time for the 20th anniversary. Hathaway returns to lead the film as journalist Andy, who was last seen quitting fashion magazine Runway and still landing a heartwarming referral letter from her former boss, editor-in-chief Miranda (Streep). Emily Blunt plays Andy's former colleague Emily Charlton, with Stanley Tucci as Runway's creative director Nigel. The sequel plot has been kept under wraps; along with McKenna and the core cast, David Frankel is back directing, with the below-the-line crew of producers, DPs, production designers, and costumers (Patricia Field did the costume designs for the first film) returning too. And as McKenna said, 'The Devil Wears Prada' is inherently a film that puts fashion at the forefront. 'I got a little squeal when I saw them in costume the first time,' McKenna admitted of witnessing Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci back in character. 'I was like, 'Oh my God!' It was like my son's bar mitzvah or something. I felt like I wanted to take pictures!' McKenna continued, 'I'm a fan of these actors, and I just have to pinch myself frequently. The heart and soul of this are the people. It's been really amazing to see these people again.' The highly publicized shoot is all just part of the celebration. 'I think that people really, really crave in-person experiences and common experiences, and they'll seek them out,' McKenna said, citing the recent sold-out 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Bryant Park outdoor fan screening as a prime example of the clamoring for communal cinematic events. 'The most wonderful thing about ['The Devil Wears Prada'] is what it means to people. When you tell them you're doing it, it really means something because it seems like [the original] marked some sort of important moments in their own life, and that's tremendously gratifying and thrilling.' McKenna is looking to include fans' love of 'The Devil Wears Prada' in the making of the sequel. 'We've all known each other for 20 years, so it reflects our own evolutions and relationships, and that's been really cool, reconnecting to people who shared this experience with you the first time,' McKenna said of working again with the original cast and crew. 'We're also experiencing our own sense of nostalgia and revisiting this in the best way. It's a true reunion, and that's what we're hoping to do for an audience: to give them that feeling of a reunion, too.' 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is expected to be in theaters in 2026. Kenneth Branagh gets in bed with the devil in The Devil Wears Prada 2
In a stunning bit of synergy between art and life, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has entered production just days after Anna Wintour announced she would be stepping down as editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Whether rumored returning screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna incorporates this sort of end of an era for The Devil's Wintour stand-in Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) remains to be seen. But it does seem that the sequel will delve a little deeper into Miranda's personal life, as Sir Kenneth Branagh has been cast to play the fictional Runway EIC's husband, per The Hollywood Reporter. We saw only glimpses of Miranda's home life in The Devil Wears Prada; at one point she sends Andy (Anne Hathaway) on an impossible quest to get an unpublished Harry Potter manuscript for 'the twins.' (No casting yet announced for Miranda's kids.) Andy later learns that Miranda's husband has filed for divorce. We can only guess that Branagh is playing a new husband, not her ex—unless they've reconciled in the last 20 years. (In real life, Wintour has been married twice, to child psychiatrist David Shaffer with whom she shares two children, and to entrepreneur Shelby Bryan, from whom she divorced in 2020.) Though everyone from the original film has been playing quite coy about the film's plot or if they're even in it, the major players are indeed back: Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all confirmed to return. THR reports that the film is about Miranda, 'still the head of Runway, contending with the headwinds of publishing, with the magazine now in a diminished state,' while her former assistant Emily (Blunt) 'will now be an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises with Runway.' Last year, Deadline reported that McKenna had been tapped to pen a sequel and the first movie's director David Frankel was also in early talks to return. More from A.V.
