AIIMS Rishikesh doctor booked for distributing sweets day after Pahalgam attack

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand Police booked an All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh doctor for allegedly distributing sweets at the hospital on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The complainant said the 'doctor distributed sweets to celebrate the heinous killings of tourists' and 'hurt the sentiments of people'. The FIR was registered under sections 196 (1) (a), 196 (1) (b) (promoting enmity and disharmony between different religious on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.), and 197 (1) (a) (Imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Rishikesh police station on May 6 on the complaint of Rishikesh president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Rajendra Pandey. In the complaint, Pandey alleged, 'The doctor distributed sweets in the hospital premises on April 23 to celebrate the killing of Hindus. When asked by someone, the doctor claimed that he was distributing sweets to celebrate Eid. However, Ramzan was celebrated a month ago. He openly supported the terrorists who killed innocent people. He earlier too had posted anti-India comments on social media. There is outrage among the Hindu community due to his act.' Senior sub inspector Vinod Kumar of Rishikesh Police station said, 'We have registered the FIR and our investigation into the matter is underway.' Kumar declined to make any comment when asked if the doctor had been questioned. The junior resident doctor, who hails from West Bengal, rejected the allegations. He said, 'On the evening of April 23, I was posted in the emergency OT when some nursing officers requested sweets to celebrate the belated occasion of Eid. As a gesture of happiness and unity, I ordered sweets and food for them. Unfortunately, this simple act is now being misrepresented to spread communal hatred in my name. I am being mentally harassed.' He said, 'I returned home on the advice of my seniors. I have now come to know that a police complaint has been filed against me. I will take legal action against those who are mentally harassing me.'

Ghaziabad: Two ramps to Hindon elevated road proposed in Indirapuram, Vasundhara

The Ghaziabad development authority (GDA) has proposed to build two ramps on the Hindon Elevated Road: an on-ramp in Indirapuram on the carriageway from Raj Nagar Extension to UP Gate, and an off-ramp in Vasundhara on the carriageway from UP Gate to Raj Nagar Extension. The ramps will be built at a cost of ₹200 crore, and the proposal will soon be sent to the state government for approval, officials said on Thursday. The 10.3km Hindon Elevated Road connects Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad with UP Gate on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. The proposal to build the ramps comes after Uttar Pradesh housing and development board officials asked GDA to provide access to the Hindon Elevated Road from Vasundhara and Siddharth Vihar townships. 'We have prepared a report proposing the development of a new on-ramp from Indirapuram and a new off-ramp towards Vasundhara. The estimated cost for these two additional accesses is ₹200 crore, and we will try to seek funds from the Sixteenth Finance Commission. For now, the report will be sent to the state government for further action,' said Atul Vats, vice-chairperson of GDA. The Hindon Elevated Road has an entry/exit point at Karhera rotary and an entry/exit point at UP-Gate. In between, the elevated road has an exit at Indirapuram for commuters coming from Raj Nagar Extension. Likewise, commuters from Vasundhara also have an entry to the elevated road, but it is meant only for commuters going to Raj Nagar Extension. 'The two new proposed entry and exit points, a ramp up from Indirapuram and a ramp down on the other side at Vasundhara, will help commuters of trans-Hindon areas get full access to the elevated road. It will also help commuters from nearby Siddharth Vihar get access to the elevated road and reach Delhi,' said an officer from GDA's engineering department. The Vasundhara and Siddharth Vihar housing schemes are spread over an area of 1,138 acres and 704 acres, respectively. Siddharth Vihar is an under-development scheme and residents settling here will need direct connectivity to Delhi. In Vasundhara, the board has a presence of 80 acres of vacant land in sectors 7 and 8, which also fall under the transit-oriented development (TOD) zone and have mixed and commercial land use being located in a 1.5km radius of the Sahibabad station of the Regional Rapid Transit System project. The TOD zones along eight RRTS stations have been defined according to the state government's TOD policy and also made part of the draft Master Plan 2031 by GDA. Ten acres of land in these two sectors is also proposed to be given for a satellite centre of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

AIIMS Jammu launches centre for advanced genomics, precision medicine to boost cancer care

Jammu: The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu on Monday launched the Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine to boost affordable, precision-driven cancer care with advanced Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology. The Centre, developed in collaboration with oncology company 4baseCare, is equipped with the Illumina NextSeq 2000 sequencing machine, offering comprehensive genomic profiling for cancer patients. The powerful technology enables clinicians to design highly personalised, targeted treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique molecular profile. AIIMS Jammu announced its collaboration with 4baseCare in January. 'For every patient we treat, we are treating a mother, a father, a sister, or a brother. This partnership is our promise to every family who walks through our doors that we will do everything in our power to bring them the care they deserve,' Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu. 'By integrating cutting-edge genomic data with AI-powered diagnostics, the Centre is poised to significantly improve early disease detection, refine therapy choices, and minimise ineffective treatments -- ultimately enhancing both patient outcomes and quality of life,' said Dr. Sudharshan Elangovan, Vice President – Global Operations at 4baseCare. Traditionally, access to such advanced genomic testing has been prohibitively expensive for many patients. However, with this initiative, high-quality NGS-based tests will now be made available at affordable costs, paving the way for greater inclusivity in precision oncology across India. Further solidifying its role as a national referral hub, the Centre will accept samples from patients and healthcare providers across the country, ensuring that cutting-edge molecular diagnostics are accessible, regardless of geographical barriers. The Centre will focus on targeted, biomarker-driven therapies, enabling personalised treatment plans to improve outcomes and quality of life of cancer patients. Using genomics the facility also aims to tackle rare diseases. And to boost healthier pregnancies, the centre will integrate cutting-edge genetic technologies such as Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS), and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD).
