My vision is can we collaborate as community leaders, as nonprofit leaders, to maybe meet our neighbors where they're at,' he said. All Aboard Erie continues rail expansion efforts with new short film debut

A local organization has its eyes set on expanding rail travel in Erie and Thursday night they're taking steps in the right direction. If you don't have a car, it can be tough sometimes to travel anywhere outside of Erie but All Aboard Erie is looking to make travel a little easier when it comes to trains. Erie travelers don't have many options when it comes to traveling by train but All Aboard Erie is hoping to change that. Thursday night the organization unveiled its new promotional video — voiced by our own Lou Baxter — to highlight the need for an expanded passenger rail service in our region. All Aboard Erie debuts film highlighting state of Amtrak services in Erie 'We're very excited about the video, because not only does it showcase what additional passenger rail service would mean, it also talks about the Erie area. It's a promotional piece for why Erie is a great place to live,' said Brian Pitzer, chair of All Aboard Erie. The video features Amtrak trains that already run through Erie on the Lake Shore Limited Route, as well as interviews with real Amtrak passengers from Erie. One featured passenger said she enjoys traveling by Amtrak, but wishes there were more destinations leaving Erie, especially going south. 'You can actually go East and West on the train, but you can't go South. A lot of Erie residents have family in Pittsburgh, they go to the doctor in Pittsburgh, and it's a long drive, and Pittsburgh is famous for sometimes being difficult to navigate,' said Theresa Anderson, a City of Erie resident. Second Harvest hosts welcome reception for new CEO The train tracks here at Amtrak don't get a lot of love when it comes to passenger travel, just two trains, one coming at 2 A.M. and the other at 7 A.M., but All Aboard Erie is hoping to change that with a call to action issued Thursday. 'Everyone asks us, 'What's the next step in getting passenger rail service?' That would be an economic impact study, that will tell us what the impact will be, how it will affect the economy, and what that will mean to the Erie area,' Pitzer went on to say. Pitzer said if anyone wants to support a potential economic impact survey, they should reach out to their state, county and local elected officials to let them know that this is what Erie needs. All Aboard Erie proposing new rail system connecting Erie to more cities

All Aboard Erie has a proposal for sweeping changes to how the country's passenger train system is structured and funded. The report released Wednesday calls for the creation of a robust passenger rail system that would connect cities across the United States. And Erie is central to their plan. How Erie's Black Wall Street grew from social media to non-profit Board members of All Aboard Erie are trying to shine a spotlight on what they said is the miserable state of intercity travel. A report released this week calls for the creation of a robust American passenger rail system with more routes to more places with improved services. 'High speed, long-distance trains, European style night trains, short distance corridor services running on an hourly basis, just a lot more service to a lot more places,' said Ed D'Amato, co-chair of Lakeshore Rail Alliance. The report points to shrinking public transportation including the decline of flights in places like Erie as evidence that federal support is warranted Acutec selected for Team FLRAA to help modernize utility helicopter fleet 'Erie's turned into what I'd call a transportation desert. If you don't drive, you're stuck,' said Bill Hutchison, co-chair of the Lakeshore Rail Alliance. The report calls for the federal government to support rail the way it has supported highways and aviation. Its writers are trying to reach policymakers in Washington as well as other stakeholders who feel the same. 'I think we just need to think big like we decided to think big when we decided to build our highway network and our aviation network and understand how far behind we are the rest of the industrialized world. We are even falling behind developing nations in developing passenger rail,' D'Amato said. With Erie's central location between Chicago and New York, these tracks will be a critical corridor should this plan come to fruition. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Hutchison and D'Amato said they hope to have the opportunity to present their plan to members of Congress. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
