Georgia woman gets decade in prison for smuggling 12 lbs. of meth to Mass. in dog food bag

A Georgia woman has been sentenced to a decade in prison for smuggling 12 pounds of meth to Massachusetts by hiding it in a large dog food bag, the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday. In January 2025, 28-year-old Brooke Logan Paniagua pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense in connection with the incident, the U.S. Attorney's office said in a press release. Paniagua worked for a drug trafficking organization that brings illegal substances into the U.S. from Mexico, the U.S. Attorney's office said. Federal investigators began investigating her in September 2022 after the organization informed a confidential source that a woman would be transporting 12 pounds of meth from Georgia to Massachusetts. Paniagua called the source to coordinate a meeting time and location at which the source would buy the drugs from her, explaining that the meth was hidden inside a 50-pound bag of dog food, the U.S. Attorney's office said. When she arrived at the location, she notified the source, but she was soon intercepted by police. Investigators found a large, partially opened back of dog food with five plastic containers filled with 12.3 pounds of 97% pure meth in Paniagua's car, the U.S. Attorney's office said. They also discovered a .22-caliber handgun loaded with eight rounds in her back pocket during a search of her person. On May 14, a federal judge sentenced Paniagua to 10 years in prison and four years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's office said. `All Access PD: Grand Rapids' episode 7, how to stream tonight for free Mass. lawyer to plead guilty to embezzling millions from relatives, business associate Assumption University student agrees to plead guilty to cyber-extorting companies Boston man charged in connection with sexual assault in the North End Police ID Belmont man in connection with hatchet assault in road rage incident Read the original article on MassLive.

Teen stole car before crashing, running from police on foot near Mass. school, police say

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with stealing a car from Wakefield before crashing into a dumpster and running off on foot, prompting a nearby Malden school to shelter in place on Wednesday, Malden police said. At around 10 a.m., Malden police were notified that a person driving a stolen car from Wakefield was in the area, Malden Police Capt. Marc Gatcomb told MassLive. After a failed traffic stop, the car drove into a pedestrian walkway in the area of Mountain Avenue and struck a dumpster, Gatcomb said. Officers were able to obtain surveillance footage that showed the teenager, dressed in black, run from the car. With the help of Massachusetts State Police and a K9 unit, a perimeter around the area was set up, Gatcomb said. Malden police previously said that an increased police presence and a police helicopter were in the area looking for the person. The boy was later found and arrested, Gatcomb said. No one was hurt during the incident. As a precaution, the Early Learning Center in Malden implemented a shelter-in-place protocol with police on standby to 'ensure a safe and orderly dismissal process,' the department previously said. While there was a delay in letting children out of school, Gatcomb said students were dismissed following the arrest. Mass. man filmed a teenage girl with his phone while she was in a Target fitting room, police say

A Swansea man is facing charges in connection with a teenage girl who was filmed while in a fitting room at a Target store, Swansea police said Thursday. John Michael Williams, 25, faces the charges of photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child, possession of child pornography and disorderly conduct, police said in a statement. At around 8 p.m. on Monday, police received a report that a 17-year-old girl was filmed while nude in a fitting room inside a Target at 579 Grand Army of the Republic Highway, police said. Following an investigation, police determined that Williams filmed the girl with his cell phone, the statement read. Investigators used surveillance footage and social media photos of Williams to identify him, along with tips submitted from the public. On Wednesday, Williams was arrested and officers took his phone as evidence, police said. 'This kind of invasive and disturbing behavior has no place in our community,' Police Chief Mark Foley said in the statement. 'We take incidents like this very seriously and will always work to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. I'm proud of the swift and diligent work of our Detectives, Furtado and Rowland, and Officer Stavens. They acted quickly and conducted a thorough investigation that resulted in the identification and arrest of the suspect.' Williams' arraignment is scheduled for Thursday in Fall River District Court. Homeless man faces charges in connection with setting fire to Western Mass. home

A 30-year-old homeless man is facing charges in connection with setting fire to one Springfield home and trying to set fire to another, police announced Wednesday. Nicholas Denson has been charged with arson of a dwelling, breaking and entering into a building during the daytime to commit a felony, attempted arson of a dwelling, defacing property and assault and battery on a police officer, Springfield police said in a press release. On April 24 around 4:35 a.m., Springfield police and firefighters responded to the 200 block of Belmont Avenue for a report that a home was on fire, police said. The home's rear porch was ablaze, but firefighters managed to extinguish the flames. Springfield police's arson and bomb squad began investigating and soon located a gasoline can near the porch, police said. An arson K9 dog also detected accelerants or flammable liquids on the porch. Around 3:30 p.m. that day, the arson and bomb squad investigated an attempted arson at an apartment on Buckingham Street, police said. When they entered the home, they immediately smelled gasoline. Officers soon spotted Denson fleeing out the back door of the apartment and pursued him, police said. They found Denson on State Street and arrested him around 4:05 p.m., but he shoved an officer before being taken into custody. No further information has been released.
