Mercedes Moné Opens Up About the Star That Lured Her to AEW

Mercedes Moné says AEW Women's World Champion Toni Storm is one of the reasons she came to AEW. At AEW Double or Nothing, Mercedes Moné defeated Jamie Hayter in the Owen Hart Cup tournament finals. This win not only put her name on the list of Owen Hart Cup winners but also earned her a shot at Toni Storm's AEW Women's World Title at All In: Texas. Advertisement On the AEW Double or Nothing Post Show post-show press conference, Mercedes Moné addressed her upcoming match with Toni Storm. She credited Storm as a key influence in her decision to come to AEW. Moné also expressed admiration for Storm's skills and status as champion. 'She might be timeless, but I'm legendary. I'm iconic and my legacy can never be undone. I mean, I've been looking forward to facing Toni Storm for a very long time. I've been watching her for years, all the way since STARDOM. She is timeless for a reason. She holds the AEW Women's Championship for a reason. But I'm four belts Moné, I am the CEO of not only AEW, RevPro, New Japan. Soon we'll be going to Mexico.' 'But, I am a global champion for a reason and I want all the gold and Toni, be prepared for your greatest match of your life. She's legit one of the reasons why I came to AEW. She put AEW on storm for me. I couldn't stop watching every single week because of her. But I'm ready to dethrone the 'Timeless' one and we're gonna go onto the revolution of Mercedes Moné.' Name a drug. What can we do? Something — if I want to get really messed up, what am I taking? [Someone says 'meth.] Luther, get me the meth. Luther, they said it was okay. Get me the meth.' WWE's NXT Great American Bash to clash with AEW All In: Fans divided over bold scheduling move

Image via WWE WWE has officially announced a blockbuster weekend in Atlanta with three major events lined up across July 12 and 13, 2025. Among the headliners is the return of the NXT Great American Bash, which will be held at the iconic Center Stage Theater on Saturday afternoon, July 12. However, what's caught fan attention is its timing - the event is set to air during AEW's highly anticipated All In: Texas pay-per-view, sparking renewed chatter of rivalry between the two promotions. The move comes just weeks after WWE's NXT Battleground went head-to-head with AEW's Double or Nothing. With this latest scheduling decision, WWE once again appears unafraid to place its programming directly opposite AEW's. With this latest scheduling decision, WWE once again appears unafraid to place its programming directly opposite AEW's. AEW vs WWE: A renewed rivalry? The overlapping schedule hasn't gone unnoticed by wrestling fans or AEW President Tony Khan. When asked about the increasing number of WWE events scheduled against AEW pay-per-views, Khan quipped that it felt reminiscent of 'the Jim Crockett Promotions era' but promised things 'will go a lot differently this time.' Meanwhile, online reactions from fans were mixed. Some accused WWE of 'sabotaging' AEW's biggest show of the year, while others joked about the increasing tension between the two companies. 'This makes WWE look scared, weak, and spiteful' one user wrote on X. Others pointed out that the move indicates WWE sees AEW as genuine competition and doesn't view NXT as merely a developmental brand anymore. With both companies pulling out all stops for their summer showcases, fans now face a tough decision. Whether it's the grandeur of AEW's All In or the nostalgia and intensity of WWE's NXT Great American Bash, July 12 promises to be a defining day in modern pro wrestling. Either way, the message is clear: the battle for viewership is heating up - and neither side is backing down. Tony Khan calls out WWE's scheduling tactics - "This will go a lot differently than JCP"

Image via AEW All Elite Wrestling (AEW) President Tony Khan didn't hold back while addressing the growing rivalry between AEW and WWE during the post-Double or Nothing 2025 media scrum. With both promotions running events on the same weekend, Khan was asked about WWE's recent trend of counter-programming AEW pay-per-views. His response was both historical and defiant. 'It's pretty consistent,' Khan said. 'I'd say it's the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling since Jim Crockett Promotions. Saw a lot of scheduling that went that way. And I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did.' The comparison to Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP) is a significant one. Back in the 1980s, JCP often clashed with WWE programming, with the rivalry culminating in the WWF running Survivor Series opposite JCP's Starrcade in 1987. The financial strain from such scheduling eventually led JCP to sell to Turner Broadcasting in 1988. AEW Double Or Nothing Post Show Media Scrum | Glendale, AZ 5/25/25 WWE counters AEW with strategic scheduling Khan's remarks come at a time when WWE appears to be intensifying its counter-programming strategy. On the same weekend as AEW's Double or Nothing, WWE held both NXT Battleground and Saturday Night's Main Event. Even more notably, WWE has lined up their second all-women's premium live event, Evolution, for the day after AEW's biggest show of the year - All In: Texas - set for July 12 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Despite WWE's attempts to dominate the schedule, Khan remains optimistic and assertive. His tone during the media scrum was confident, suggesting that AEW has learned from history and is better equipped to handle such competition. While Khan didn't reveal specific strategies to combat WWE's moves, his message was clear: AEW isn't intimidated, and it's prepared to maintain its momentum in the face of growing pressure. With both companies now regularly overlapping major events, the professional wrestling landscape is heating up like never before in the modern era. For fans, it's a flashback to the legendary Monday Night Wars of the late 1990s - only this time, the battle spans not just Monday nights but weekends and international tours as well. With AEW's All In: Texas and Forbidden Door on the horizon, and WWE ramping up its own counter-efforts, wrestling fans could be witnessing the birth of a new golden age, where competition drives creativity and both companies are pushed to deliver their very best. What's clear is this: the rivalry between WWE and AEW is no longer theoretical. It's unfolding live, and the industry may be better for it. Report: AEW's Original Plans For Darby Allin Revealed

What did AEW have planned for Darby Allin in 2025? Darby Allin is currently on the climb to the top of Mount Everest. But what would All Elite Wrestling look like right now if Allin were on the road with the company instead? Advertisement The former multi-time TNT Champion was written off AEW programming at the end of December when he was tossed down a flight of stairs by the Death Riders. Allin hasn't been seen on AEW programming since. We now have some information on what the company's plans were for Allin had he been back on television by now. According to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), AEW's initial hopes were that Darby Allin would be back on the road in time for this year's Owen Hart Cup. This would have led to a featured match for Allin at Double or Nothing. A typical climb of Mount Everest takes anywhere from six to ten weeks. So, a return to AEW by Double or Nothing looks very unlikely. Previous rumors and reports suggested that AEW wanted Allin to be the one to dehtrone Jon Moxley. With the company's initial hopes for the timeline of his return, it appears these two things could have lined up. Advertisement Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information on Allin's Mount Everest climb as it becomes available.
