Akhilesh predicts BJP defeat in 2027 UP polls, slams 193K jobs claim
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday called a recent advertisement to recruit 1.93 lakh teachers in Uttar Pradesh a political 'jumla' (gimmick) that will result in a massive electoral setback for the ruling BJP in the 2027 Assembly elections. In a detailed post on X, Yadav presented a mathematics of political backlash that will stem from the disappointment of lakhs of job aspirants and their families. If we assume at least 75 aspirants per post, it will amount to around 1.45 crore affected candidates. If we include just two family members per candidate, the number of affected voters translates to more than 4.34 crore, the former chief minister said. Dividing this number across the 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will translate to nearly 1.08 lakh voters per seat, he said. Even if half of these numbers are BJP voters, the party would still lose about 54,000 votes per seat. In such a scenario, the BJP would be reduced to double digits in the Assembly in 2027, Yadav said. In the case of police recruitment, this arithmetic of recruitment' succeeded in making the BJP lose almost half the seats in the state (in 2024 Lok Sabha polls). So now everyone has started taking such statistics seriously, he said. In a post on X, the Uttar Pradesh government announced to recruit 1.93 lakh teachers in three phases. However, the post was later deleted, with officials not issuing any clarification on it so far. The day this data enters the minds of the BJP candidates, their electoral calculations will collapse, and with that their dreams of becoming legislators, Yadav said in the post, adding that the BJP would soon face a rebellion from within as it will find it difficult to even pick candidates. The Samajwadi Party chief also listed a range of issues fuelling public anger in the state, including farmers' distress, unemployment, inflation, women's insecurity, atrocities on PDA (an acronym for backwards, Dalits and minorities), widespread corruption, bureaucratic excesses, and misuse of Central agencies. He also accused the BJP of attacking the upright officers and suppressing journalists and intellectuals through arrests, FIRs and fake encounters, etc. In the name of development, the BJP has only re-inaugurated the works completed by the previous Samajwadi Party government. The BJP's communal and political formula has failed in Uttar Pradesh, Yadav claimed. He also accused the BJP government of rushing to sanction tenders and loot public money before its exit, plunging the state into what he called an era of historic corruption. Declaring the rise of PDA politics representing the Pichhda', Dalit and Alpsankhyak' (backward classes, Dalits and minorities) Yadav claimed this inclusive, justice-based movement is the future of Uttar Pradesh. Today, 90 per cent of the oppressed population has awakened. And they are ready and determined to form a PDA government in 2027. PDA is the future, he said.

UP BJP org rejig: Dalits, OBCs likely to weigh in prominently
1 2 Lucknow: OBC and Dalit communities are expected to weigh in prominently as the BJP gears up to reboot its organisational machinery at the ground level by inducting around 90,000 functionaries in over 1,500 out of 1,918 mandals (divisions). Sources said the party plans to recalibrate 80% of the mandals — a local organisational unit within the party's hierarchical structure — even as the party draws up a broader blueprint of a strategy to counter opposition in the run-up to the 2027 UP assembly polls. A mandal is a key operational layer in the BJP's grassroots machinery, enabling it to maintain a strong local presence. It is one level below a district and usually corresponds to a group of a few municipal wards or several village panchayats, mainly a sub-division within a district for efficient grassroots-level political and organisational functioning. According to BJP sources, the party will appoint over 60 functionaries in each of the over 1,500 mandals where the party has already appointed a president. A similar exercise will be undertaken in the remaining over 400 mandals after the appointment of presidents. The new team is expected to have a sizable presence of OBC, Dalit and women functionaries, a move that could align with BJP's focus on strengthening its grassroots presence and bolstering its social coalition, which catapulted the party to an overwhelming majority in UP in the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections. The induction of OBC and Dalit functionaries at the grassroots, experts said, could allow the BJP to counter the opposition's Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak (PDA) card, which dented the party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by shrinking its tally from 62 to 33 in UP. A senior BJP functionary said the induction of a good number of women functionaries at the mandal level is also on the cards. Speculations are rife that women may comprise around 33% of the total functionaries at the mandal level. Is that happens then it would be a strategic move by the party, which has been prioritising gender inclusivity by ensuring significant representation of women functionaries in the new appointments. The party also plans to engage the upper caste leadership strategically at the grassroots level as part of its broader organisational revamp. While OBCs and Dalits form the numerical majority and a critical voter bloc, upper castes (like Brahmins, Thakurs, Baniya, and Kayasthas) have traditionally been a core support base for the BJP. The party aims to retain their influence while expanding its appeal to marginalised groups. In March this year, the party had named 70 new district presidents, of whom 39 were from the upper caste, 25 were OBCs and six Scheduled Caste.

Privatisation of higher edu a ploy to keep PDA out of jobs: Akhilesh Yadav
1 2 3 Lucknow: Charging the BJP govt of encouraging private universities to take over higher education in the state, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday said this was being done to keep the PDA out of jobs. He said education in private universities will be costly and the PDA community – comprising Pichhde (Backward classes) Dalits and Alpsankhyak (Minorities) – will not be able to afford it and will be pushed out of the race for jobs."Higher education in private universities will be a costly affair. The youth from the PDA community – which mainly comprise poor and deprived – will not be able to afford education at these universities. As a result, they will automatically be pushed out of the race for job opportunities. This in turn will also deprive them of reservation as well," Akhilesh said."As it is, the BJP has turned qualified youths into delivery boys. They don't want the youth to get an affordable education. To make things difficult for young people who are poor, the BJP is pushing for privatization. This will hit the PDA in two ways: Private universities will not give reservations in jobs; hence, PDA will be deprived of reservation. Then education at these private universities will be costly and most of the PDA youths will not be able to afford it. It is BJP's ploy to keep PDA out of reservation benefits and higher education that can fetch jobs," Akhilesh said with such bias of the BJP govt , the 2027 assembly elections will be a "Yogi versus Pratiyogi" (CM Yogi versus youths competing for government jobs) accused the BJP govt of having failed to check corruption. "Systematic and organized corruption is rampant under the BJP government, and nothing has been done to curb it. People are aware how an IAS officer had publicly sought commission. An IPS officer had forced a factory owner to pay money to run a stone crushing factory forcing him to commit suicide. These are the examples that have come out in the open and are a matter of record. Imagine what is going on behind the scenes," Akhilesh said addressing a conference of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha at the party SP chief called upon the members of the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha – party's student wing – to fan out across the state and tell the people, particularly the PDA community, how privatisation of higher education will harm the poor. On poor state of healthcare, Akhilesh said people hailing from CM's home district of Gorakhpur are compelled to come over to the cancer institute in Lucknow for treatment for lack of doctors and infrastructure. "This explains the condition of healthcare in CM's district. One can imagine the condition in the rest of the state," he said.

BJP steps up its Waqf Act outreach campaign in U.P.
: The Bharatiya Janata Party is pushing its pro-Waqf Amendment Act 2025 campaign forward in Uttar Pradesh, holding statewide outreach programme to convince the minorities that the legislation is the need of the hour and not against the interests of the Muslims. Union minister for parliamentary affairs and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju is expected to participate in one such programme in Lucknow on May 9. The BJP has been running the Waqf Sudhar Janjagran Abhiyan from April 20 in the state with the help of its frontal organisations like the Minority Morcha, Mahila Morcha and the Yuva Morcha. Besides ministers in the BJP government, party office bearers, MPs and MLAs have been tasked with reaching out to the youngsters, women and other members of the minority community to make them understand the benefits and the need of the Waqf Amendment Act. Disclosing more details about the campaign, UP chief of the BJP Minority Morcha Kunwar Basit Ali said, 'Workshops for the Waqf Amendment Act have been held across districts in the state so far. We are also running Waqf Sudhar Janjagran Abhiyan in districts where one minister and one member of the minority community is going among the people. This has been held in more than 30 districts so far. The rest will also be covered soon.' 'Soon, we will start our programmes district-wise. It will be called Alpsankhyak Prabuddh Samvad, in which the responsibility for calling people will be with the local MLA. In parliamentary constituencies, it will be done by the MPs. In constituencies, where our candidate couldn't win, the responsibility will be given to the MP or MLA candidate who had contested,' Basit Ali added. 'This time, the BJP Mahila Morcha is also entrusted with the responsibility of holding these Janjagran programmes and get at least 100 women from the minority community to the programme. In every assembly constituency, the Mahila Morcha has been given a target to reach out to at least 500 people. Similarly, the BJP Yuva Morcha will contact youth from the minority community and educate them about the details and benefits of the Waqf Amendment Act. Posters, pamphlets and booklets have also been issued by the party which will be distributed in these outreach programmes.' The pamphlets and booklets explain what the Waqf Amendment Act is and mention its key points. The booklets have pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and other senior BJP leaders. They highlight how a CWC report in 2018 indicated that Waqf has eight lakh acres of land with an approximate value of ₹10 lakh crore. The booklet also talks about how Waqf has 'looted' the Muslim community. It also mentions an alleged land scam in Karnataka Waqf Board by Congress leaders and carries a picture of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. Kunwar Basit Ali also said the BJP members will reach out to social media influencers, prominent people of the minority community, doctors, madrasa administrators and engineers. 'Along with this, central ministers will also participate in these outreach programmes. On May 9, 2025, Union minister for parliamentary affairs and minority affairs Kiren Rijiju will participate in this outreach programme and will meet members of the minority community, which can be even Jain, Parsi, Sikh or Christian community (members). He will also hold a meeting with the Muslims community representatives and address a press conference in this regard,' added Basit Ali who was on his way to Bulandshahr for a similar programme.

In preparation for 2027, Akhilesh steps up press meets, attacks on Yogi govt
The Samajwadi Party (SP) headquarters in Lucknow has been teeming with mediapersons and prominent leaders of late. It's thanks to party chief Akhilesh Yadav's almost daily media conferences to raise issues, questioning the BJP and the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government. Party insiders say that with the 2027 Assembly polls in mind, Akhilesh has intensified his attacks, focusing on the alleged neglect of the 'PDA' – Pichda (backward), Dalit, Alpsankhyak (minorities), as per the SP's formulation – as well as government postings in various districts which, he claims, are determined by caste. A senior party leader said Akhilesh will be stepping up his interactions with the media even more in the coming days, and tour the state while continuing to slam the government when in Lucknow. 'He will start visiting districts to prepare the ground for the Assembly polls,' the leader said. SP leaders said that party MPs, MLAs and workers have also hit the ground at the booth-level in all the 403 Assembly constituencies in the state, reaching out to Muslims, OBCs and Dalits. Over the past week alone, the SP chief has held press conferences on five days, including Friday, raising issues like the attack on party MP Ramji Lal Suman by members of the Karni Sena over his alleged derogatory remarks on Rajput icon Maharana Pratap, and the Pahalgam terror attack. On Thursday, after a controversy broke out over a poster put up by the SP's frontal body, the Samajwadi Lohia Vahini, that contained a photo of B R Ambedkar with Akhilesh superimposed on one half, he held a press conference and appealed to party workers not to compare SP leaders to any prominent personalities. The BJP and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) trained guns on the SP over the poster calling it an 'insult to Ambedkar'. With Lohia Vahini leader Lal Chandra Gautam by side, Akhilesh told the media that Gautam would not put up such posters in the future. As a symbolic gesture amid the party's attempts to woo the Dalits, seen to be the BSP's core voter base, Gautam handed over a miniature Ambedkar statue to Akhilesh. Apart from this, the SP chief spoke about how the INDIA bloc was instrumental in 'forcing' the Centre to undertake a nationwide caste census, a decision cleared by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday. Akhilesh has also been accusing government officials of 'indulging in corruption' and attacking Adityanath for targeting 'a particular community' with 'bulldozer action'. The SP chief has fallen back on the party's old allegation that Adityanath had carried out 'purification' of the CM's residence when he first moved in, as Akhilesh (who is an OBC) occupied it before him. The SP chief has been claiming a growing gap between the CM and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, saying Adityanath does not share 'good relations' with some leaders of the BJP. He has repeatedly reiterated that the INDIA bloc will contest the 2017 polls together, and that the PDA will help SP form the government in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from targeting Adityanath in his media interactions, the SP chief trained guns on him during a visit to Ballia district on Wednesday. ' Koi vastra se yogi nahin hota, vicharon se yogi hota hai (an attire does not make a person a yogi, their thoughts do),' he said.
