'Fortnite' Is Officially Back on the US Apple App Store

Summary Fortniteis officially back on the USAppleApp Store. Epic Gamesshared the news on X, confirming that the game is once again available foriPhonesandiPads. Meanwhile, in the EU, Fortnite is available via Epic Games Store and AltStore. AsIGNreports, iPhone and iPadForniteplayers can purchase V-Bucks through either the Epic Games Store or in-app. This marksFortnite'sreturn to the US App Store after nearly five years. In August 2020, bothGoogleand Applepulled the gamefrom its stores following an ongoing legal battle between the latter and Epic. The issue began when Epic introduced a direct payment system forFortnite'sin-game currency, V-Bucks, offering them at a lower price. The developers stated their aim was to bypass the 'exorbitant 30% fee' that Google and Apple imposed on each V-Buck purchase. In late April, a U.S. Federal District Court in California ruled that Apple deliberately violated a court order in its legal case against Epic Games. The court order required the tech giant to allow developers to offer customers different purchasing methods outside of the app. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney then announced thatFortnitewouldreturn to the US App Store in early May, but the companyclaimedthat 'Apple has blocked ourFortnitesubmission so we cannot release to the U.S. App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union.' Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads… and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U! It'll show up in Search soon! Fortnite is back on US iPhones again

Fortnite is once again available on the iOS App Store in the US, according to Epic Games. You can get it from the App Store here. Epic says it has returned to the Epic Games Store and AltStore as well. Apple kicked Fortnite off the App Store nearly five years ago after Epic Games added its own in-app payment system to the game, which violated Apple's rules. But after a major court ruling in Epic Games v. Apple that forced Apple to not take fees from purchases made outside of apps, the game is available to play on US iPhones once again. Shortly after the big ruling hit, CEO Tim Sweeney said that Epic planned to bring back Fortnite to iOS in the US. He also made a 'peace proposal:' 'If Apple extends the court's friction-free, Apple-tax-free framework worldwide, we'll return Fortnite to the App Store worldwide and drop current and future litigation on the topic.' Ahead of the app's return, Sweeney said that Epic would use its Sweden developer account to submit the game to the US App Store. The company also recently rolled out a new promotion to encourage players to use its payment systems: if you use Epic's payment system in Fortnite, Rocket League, or Fall Guys on PC, iOS, Android, and the web, the company will give you 20 percent back in Epic Rewards that can be used for other purchases in its games or on the Epic Games Store.

AltStore brings emulator for Nintendo Switch games to iPhone, iPad in EU

The emulator to play Nintendo Switch games on iPhone and iPad is available through AltStore, which is a third-party app store available for Apple devices sold only in the European Union Nintendo Switch 2 New Delhi iPhone and iPad users in the European Union (EU) can now run Nintendo Switch games at full speed, following the release of AltStore Classic, an updated version of the AltStore platform that supports on-device Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation. The new version was introduced through AltStore PAL, one of the EU's first alternative app stores made possible by the Digital Markets Act (DMA). AltStore Classic enables users to install non-notarised apps, including advanced game emulators, without needing a developer account or relying on a separate computer for installation. While AltServer is still required for ongoing app management, the initial setup is now simplified. To support heavier emulation tasks, the team behind AltStore also launched StikDebug, a tool that allows JIT compilation directly on iOS devices. This addition makes it possible to run resource-intensive emulators such as Dolphin (for Wii and GameCube) and meloNX (for Switch) on Apple hardware. EU-based users will now be able to access console-grade emulation natively on their iPhones and iPads, as long as the game files are legally obtained. In related news, Nintendo has announced that Switch 2 pre-orders will begin in the US on April 24, 2025. The pre-order availability in the EU region might soon follow. As for the official launch, the handheld gaming console will be launched globally on June 5. Notably, despite the tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump, the price for the console has remained the same. However, if consumers wish to get accessories along with it then the price for the same has been hiked slightly.

Apple warns about ‘hardcore porn apps' in EU

US tech giant Apple has condemned the launch of a new pornography app in the EU that is now accessible on iPhones via third-party app stores under the bloc's digital rules. AltStore PAL, an alternative app marketplace enabled by the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA), introduced Hot Tub this week, describing it as an adult content browser for iPhones. The marketplace developer claimed in a social media post on Monday that Hot Tub is 'the world's 1st Apple-approved porn app.' The US company rejected the 'false statements,' arguing that it 'certainly' does not approve of the app and 'would never offer it in our App Store.' 'The truth is that we are required by the European Commission to allow it to be distributed by marketplace operators like AltStore and Epic who may not share our concerns for user safety,' Apple spokesperson Peter Ajemian was quoted as stated by The Verge. He said the company is 'deeply concerned about the safety risks that hardcore porn apps of this type create for EU users, especially kids,' warning that such apps would 'undermine consumer trust and confidence in our ecosystem.' Under the DMA adopted in 2022, Apple was required to adjust its business practices and loosen App Store restrictions, allowing users across the 27-nation EU to download iPhone apps from third-party stores. As part of its alternative app store process, Apple mandates a baseline review called 'notarization,' which scans for cybersecurity threats such as known malware but does not assess or approve an app's content. Apple is being extremely disingenuous in attacking the European Union here. The iOS App Store hosts the Reddit app, which provides access to massive amounts of porn. Apple knows this, permits it, and gave Reddit a 17+ (!!!) rating and Editors Choice award. — Tim Sweeney (@TimSweeneyEpic) February 4, 2025 The company has pushed back against the new regulations, arguing they open the door to more harmful services, including those offering pornography, illegal drugs, and other content it has long banned from its App Store. Responding to Apple's criticism, AltStore accused the company of using safety concerns as a cover to maintain its dominance. 'Apple continues to use safety as a pretext to protect their monopoly power and evade compliance with the DMA,' the marketplace stated. He also argued that the iOS App Store hosts the Reddit app, which provides access to porn. 'Apple knows this, permits it, and gave Reddit a 17+ (!!!) rating and Editors' Choice award,' Sweeney posted on X on Tuesday. Apple bans 'overtly sexual or pornographic material' on its iOS store. Former CEO Steve Jobs once said the company has 'a moral responsibility' to keep porn off iPhones, urging users to 'buy an Android phone' instead.
