Eminem doc about fans to open SXSW London Screen Festival
The inaugural South by Southwest (SXSW) London Screen Festival will be opened by the world premiere of a film co-produced by Eminem. SXSW is a major conference and festival, held annually in Texas, which is making its European debut in June with a six-day event held in Shoreditch. Eminem co-produced a new documentary entitled Stans and it will open the screen portion of the festival, which also includes a talk from The X-Files star Gillian Anderson, and the closing night will see the UK premiere of science fiction drama The Life Of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston. Stans, premiering at the festival on 2 June, explores the relationship between an artist and their fanbase and the title of the film references the name of the crazed fan who features in Eminem's song Stan. The festival has said it will see 12 world premieres and 30 UK premieres as well as featuring panels, talks and screenings. The Life Of Chuck, a genre-bending story based on Stephen King's novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz, will close out the screen festival on 7 June. Also having its world premiere is Amazon MGM Studio's action comedy Deep Cover, starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed, as a group of amateur improv comics embroiled in London's criminal underworld. Headliner screenings include the world premiere of Love And Rage: Munroe Bergdorf, a documentary about the model and trans activist. The festival will also play host to the UK premiere of the BBC's What It Feels Like For A Girl, which is based on the memoir by journalist and trans activist Paris Lee, and the world premiere of thriller The Institute, based on the best-selling Stephen King novel. Anna Bogutskaya, head of screen for SXSW London, said: "Putting together the first-ever programme of the SXSW London Screen Festival has been a dream. "We are excited to present bold new work from across the world, celebrating boundary-pushing films across documentary, animation and narrative filmmaking. "Our programme is designed to ignite conversations, inspire new connections, and showcase and celebrate screen storytelling across film, TV and immersive."

First look at Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in ‘Masters of the Universe' live-action film
Amazon MGM Studios has released the first official teaser image of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action film, set to hit theaters on June 6, 2026. The image showcases He-Man's legendary Power Sword, Galitzine's muscular transformation, and a costume reminiscent of the classic 1980s animated series. Eternia is in good hands. Here's your first look at Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man with the Sword of Power in the upcoming film #MastersOfTheUniverse. — Amazon MGM Studios (@AmazonMGMStudio) February 24, 2025 Directed by Bumblebee filmmaker Travis Knight, the new adaptation appears to embrace its cartoon and action figure roots more than the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. However, like its predecessor, much of the story will take place on Earth rather than Eternia. The teaser image arrives shortly after leaked set photos revealed a more grounded version of Prince Adam, sparking speculation among fans. Joining Galitzine in the star-studded cast are Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress. With a powerhouse cast and a director known for action-packed storytelling, Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films of 2026. Fans of the franchise have long awaited a faithful live-action adaptation of He-Man's adventures, and this new image suggests the film will deliver on nostalgia while introducing the character to a new generation.

Bond franchise shake-up moves spy into Amazon stable
In a move that looks set to shake -- and maybe even stir -- one of Hollywood's most bankable franchises, Amazon MGM Studio is to take creative control of James Bond, as the fictional British spy's longtime producers step back. An agreement announced Thursday sees ownership of the rights to 007 shared between the movie behemoth and producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who are heading into retirement. The news comes four years after the last Bond film, in which Daniel Craig bowed out as the secret agent, with fans left to fill the intervening time with speculation about who will replace him. Now with Amazon at the helm, the audience may not have to wait too long for the next installment -- or for spin offs. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wasted no time in soliciting opinions. 'Who'd you pick as the next Bond?' Bezos asked followers on X. The agreement confirms that Wilson and Broccoli will not be involved in the Bond franchise after they signed off in 2021 with 'No Time to Die' -- the 25th James Bond movie, which earned $775 million. Wilson, whose career with 007 spans nearly 60 years, said he would focus on 'art and charitable projects,' while Broccoli has announced plans to pursue other ventures. 'We are honoured to continue this treasured heritage,' said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, noting the franchise's six-decade impact on film culture.

The deal builds on Amazon's 2022 acquisition of MGM, which included distribution rights to Bond's extensive back catalog. The new arrangement gives Amazon MGM Studios creative authority over future productions of the franchise, which has been closely guarded by the Broccoli family since Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and Harry Saltzman first brought author Ian Fleming's character to theaters. Barbara Broccoli, who has worked with four different actors in the role of 007 -- Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Craig -- described her tenure as "dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy" inherited from Cubby, her father. Wilson and Broccoli were steadfast in defending the James Bond character and brand, and resisted spin-offs and licensing that they felt might have tarnished the franchise. The financial terms of the joint venture were not disclosed. Reaction to the news on social media was largely downbeat, with fans lamenting what they saw as the inevitable over-exploitation of the brand by the Amazon juggernaut. Several users tweeted variations on "RIP James Bond," posting memes of headstones and franchise characters dying. "DON'T cinematic universe James Bond," wrote @joerussotweets, referring to the vast expansion of Marvel characters under Disney ownership. "It is one of our last, great theatrical events. Don't dilute that with a plethora of streaming spin-offs." While the occasionally lengthy waits between installments could frustrate fans, some bemoaned the likely speeding up of the process. "We used to get a (generally) very good James Bond movie every few years, but that's all out the window now. Get ready for Young Q and 00 Origins: Trevelyan and other unwatchable Amazon Prime slop," wrote @MikeBeauvais. arp-hg/bgs
