Congress condemns FIR against Rahul

1 2 Patna: A day after the Darbhanga district administration lodged an FIR against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for attending an event at Ambedkar Hostel without permission, the party criticised the move on Friday while urging the state govt not to implicate dalit students. Speaking to the reporters, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar claimed police were attempting to arrest around 100 dalit students who had invited Rahul to participate in the ' Shiksha Nyay Samvad ' event. "The police have gone all out to arrest these poor students whose names appear in the FIR. We strongly condemn this police action," Kumar said, adding that the students should not be dragged into a political conflict between the Congress and the govt. Kumar said, "We neither fear the bullets of the NDA govt nor their FIRs. The Congress stands firmly with dalits, OBCs, EBCs and minority students. They need not be afraid. Rahulji is with them." Krishna Allavaru, the party's Bihar in charge, said the administration had initially extended support during preparations but suddenly withdrew permission. "Our leader went there to interact with students, not to hold a public rally. The Bihar govt's last-minute decision clearly shows it fears the Congress and Rahul," Allavaru claimed. Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee's working president Jignesh Mevani said, "The registration of an FIR against Rahul and dalit students proves that the NDA is opposed to dalit, backward, extremely backward and tribal communities."

Rahul Gandhi on 2 FIRs against him for ‘unauthorised' event at Bihar hostel: ‘These are medals for me'

Two FIRs have been registered against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi along with several party functionaries for organising an alleged unauthorised public meeting at the Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel in Darbhanga on Thursday, in violation of prohibitory orders and without permissions. Responding to the cases, Rahul Gandhi said, 'These are all medals for me. There are 30-32 cases against me.' Amit Kumar, SDPO (Sadar), Darbhanga, said that the district administration had granted written permission to Congress to hold the event at Rajendra Bhavan (Town Hall) after a formal request by party workers. However, the authorities said there were 'unauthorised' preparations for a separate programme at the Ambedkar Hostel campus. 'In view of these unauthorised preparations, the Darbhanga Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate issued preventive orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the enforcement of these orders was duly announced at the site,' Kumar said, adding that leaders and workers on the Ambedkar Hostel campus were 'informed about the prohibitory orders and were requested to vacate the premises.' 'Despite being made aware of the prohibitory orders, Mohammad Sadab Akhtar, National Secretary of NSUI, along with local Congress workers, proceeded to organise a meeting at the hostel without permission. Chairs, tables, tents, fans, and microphones were set up forcibly, and the gathering went ahead with the participation of Rahul Gandhi and 18 other named individuals, as well as approximately 100 unidentified persons,' SDPO Kumar said. Kumar said that an FIR was registered at Laheriasarai police station under Sections 189(2), 189(5), and 132 of the BNS, along with the Loudspeaker Act, based on a complaint of Alok Kumar, district welfare officer of Darbhanga. Another FIR was filed under Section 223 of the BNS and the Loudspeaker Act, based on a complaint by Khurshid Alam, block welfare officer. 'The event was conducted without permission and in direct violation of the prohibitory orders. Video footage of the incident has been secured and is being used to identify others involved,' the SDPO said. Earlier in the day, at the Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, Gandhi accused the local administration of barricading the road to the venue. 'Do you know why they were not able to stop me?… Because I have the power of your backing… I came through the back doors.' Later, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge targeted the JDU-BJP government in Bihar, accusing it of 'sheer dictatorship' by 'preventing' Gandhi from holding the event in Darbhanga. 'Is communicating with Dalit, deprived and Backward Class students against the Constitution? Is it a sin to talk to them about their education, their recruitment exams and jobs,' Kharge asked in a post on X. 'It is the height of dictatorship that the JDU-BJP government prevented Rahul Gandhi from attending the 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' programme at the Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, Bihar,' he said. Rahul Gandhi later claimed that authorities initially had no objection. 'Earlier, they had no objection, but suddenly they tried to stop us. But that's fine, we went ahead and did what we came to do. I spoke about the need for a caste census and called for breaking the 50% reservation cap in private universities and colleges. These are our demands, and we will see them through,' he said. 'I told them, If you want to stop me, go ahead, I have no problem. They didn't stop me, so I went ahead,' the Congress leader said. In a video shared on his social media account, Gandhi was seen telling the officials: 'You do your job, I'll do mine. Go ahead, stop me if you wish.' When asked repeatedly to halt the procession, Gandhi pointed towards the gathering and said, 'If Section 144 has been imposed, then please enforce it. Do your duty.' In response, a police officer remarked, 'We respect you,' to which Gandhi replied, 'I respect you as well… I have given my word to the students that I will come.' Later, SDM Vikas Kumar said, 'They and their party members were given a complete briefing that Town Hall was allotted to them, the order was also issued yesterday itself at their request. Despite this, for reasons unknown, they insisted on going to the hostel, which was prohibited.' He added, 'Since he (Rahul Gandhi) has Z+ security, we had deployed police and magistrates from the airport to Town Hall accordingly. But they went elsewhere, where there was no deployment. I repeatedly told him that BNS 163 is in force, and not to enter within 200 metres, or we will be compelled to file an FIR. I informed them of this several times.'

"Is it against the Constitution to communicate with Dalits": Mallikarjun Kharge slams Bihar govt

New Delhi [India], May 15 (ANI): Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge slammed Bihar's NDA government for allegedly stopping Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi by the Bihar police when he was on his way to the Ambedkar hostel in Darbhanga. The Congress president asked if it is a 'sin' to talk about the employment and education of the Dalit and backward class students. Kharge further highlighted that there is a 'height' of dictatorship in the JDU-BJP Bihar government which prevented Rahul Gandhi to attend the 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' program in Darbhanga. 'Now is it against the Constitution to communicate with Dalit, deprived and backward class students? Is it a sin to talk to them about their education, their recruitment exams and jobs? It is the height of dictatorship that the JDU-BJP government prevented Rahul Gandhi from attending the 'Shiksha Nyay Samvad' program at the Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, Bihar. The birthplace of democracy, Bihar will remember this injustice and will give a befitting reply to JDU-BJP when the time comes', Mallikarjun Kharge's 'X' post said. Rahul Gandhi also criticised the Bihar government and called them a 'Double Engine Dhokebaaz Sarkaar', while addressing a gathering in Darbhanga on Thursday. The latter alleged that he was stopped by the Bihar Police on his way to Ambedkar hostel in Darbhanga and said that the central government is against democracy, the Constitution, and the minorities. 'The Bihar Police tried to stop me. But they could not stop me because your power (minority community) is watching over me. We told PM Narendra Modi that you have to conduct census... Under your pressure, PM Narendra Modi announced caste census in the country. Scared of your pressure, he placed the Constitution on his forehead. But their government is against democracy, the Constitution, and the minorities. This is the government of Adani-Ambani and not yours,' Rahul Gandhi said, addressing the gathering in Darbhanga. 'I guarantee that the moment our government forms in India and in Bihar, it will implement everything that you deserve,' he added. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi questioned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying that since when did dialogue become a 'crime in the state.' 'NDA's 'Double Engine Dhokebaaz Sarkaar' in Bihar is preventing me from interacting with Dalit and backward students in Ambedkar Hostel. Since when has dialogue become a crime? Nitish ji, what are you afraid of? Do you want to hide the state of education and social justice in Bihar?' the Lok Sabha LoP said. Rahul Gandhi's car was allegedly stopped by the Police from going to the event at Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga, before he got on foot to attend and address the students at the event at the hostel. Congress stages protest as Rahul Gandhi stopped from entering Ambedkar Hostel in Bihar

PATNA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was stopped by police while trying to enter the Ambedkar Hostel in Bihar's Darbhanga district, where he was to interact with students of SC/ST, OBC and EBC under the party's 'Siksha Nyay Samvad'. Sources said Rahul Gandhi's vehicle was stopped outside the hostel by police personnel deployed at the site. While workers of the Congress staged a protest at the entrance gate, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha remained seated in his car for a considerable amount of time. A verbal altercation broke out between district administration officials and Congress workers over the opening of the entrance gate to the Ambedkar Hostel. Officials informed that the venue had been shifted to the Town Hall citing security concerns. However, Congress leaders insisted on holding the programme at the originally planned venue. As police personnel did not open the entrance gate, Rahul got down from his car and walked to the hostel where a large number of students were waiting for him. Later interacting with students, Rahul said, 'Mujhe kayar samjha tha kya? Fire hun mein (Did they consider me a coward? I am like fire)'. Initially he reached the District Town Hall, the venue shifted by the district administration. But later he decided to reach the Ambedkar Hostel where the programme was fixed earlier. This led to a chaotic situation in the divisional headquarters down. Rahul alleged that the double engine government in Bihar and at the Centre has failed to deliver justice to SC/ST students. He demanded reservation for the students in private educational institutions and removal of 50 per reservation cap.
