Future doctors urged to make service to humanity their core value
LAHORE: Terming the White Coat as a symbol of sanctity of the medical profession, Principal of Ameer uddin Medical College, Prof. Dr. M. Al-Fareed Zafar called upon the future doctors to make service to humanity their core value, win hearts through compassion and uphold the honour of this coat which signifies the noble tradition of ailing humanity. While addressing the first-year students of the MBBS session 2025–29 during the White Coat and oath-taking ceremony held at Lahore General Hospital, he stated that White Court recognized as a symbol of peace, and doctors work tirelessly to provide relief and comfort to their patients, often at the expense of their own rest and priorities. He pointed out that doctors are held in high regard by society which places a great responsibility on their shoulders to live up to public expectations. Executive Director PINS Prof. Asif Bashir and other faculty members advised the aspiring doctors to adhere strictly to medical ethics, underscoring that medical education requires immense dedication focus and a strong commitment to learning. Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain appealed to parents to remain actively involved in their children's academic and personal development. International Nurses Day marked
LAHORE: With the theme – 'Our nurses-our future–caring for nurses strengthens economies,' International Nurses Day was marked here like other parts of the world with a renewed pledge to ensure dignity, respect and professional development of nurses. To mark the day, different events were held in which the speakers highlighted the critical role of a healthy nursing workforce in supporting the overall healthcare system. They said that nurses are at the forefront of fighting epidemics and pandemics, providing high quality and respectful treatment and care. They highlighted the role of nurses in Covid-19 pandemic. Without nurses and other health workers, we will not win the battle against outbreak, they said. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif in her message on the International Nurses Day said, 'Nurses are respected in every society. Every society is proud of their nurses who serve and help the sick as well as helpless with care. Nurses are the embodiment of hope, courage and love in times of sickness, pain and helplessness.' She highlighted, 'Nursing is not just a profession but a sacred duty that is dedicated to the spirit of serving the ailing humanity day in and day out. The nurses served the nation without caring for their lives in every emergency situation including outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic across the globe. We can never forget these selfless sacrifices.' The CM maintained, 'The Punjab government is determined to ensure dignity, respect and professional development of nurses in all government hospitals across Punjab.' She added, 'The Punjab government is developing the nursing sector on modern lines. Language courses are also being conducted and all possible steps are being taken for the uplift of nursing sector in Punjab.' In line with the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a state-of-the-art Model Pharmacy has been established at Outdoor Department, Lahore General Hospital (LGH) to ensure the provision of high-quality, free medicines to patients without any discrimination. The pharmacy was formally inaugurated by Principal Ameer uddin Medical College (AMC) Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar. During the ceremony, he appreciated the efforts of MS LGH Prof. Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar stated that patients can get quality medicines free of cost from the Pharmacy between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm which will significantly reduce their difficulties and waiting time. Medical Superintendent Dr Faryad Hussain briefed the Principal and informed that seven separate counters have been established at the Pharmacy for the convenience of different patient groups including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, male and female patients and Government employees. Health facilities across Punjab put on high alert
LAHORE: In the wake of ongoing emergency situation amid Indian missiles attack, emergency has been declared in health facilities across Punjab and leaves of all kinds of doctors and paramedical staff has been cancelled. The Punjab health department has also evolved a contingency plan for providing round the clock quality and prompt healthcare services in case of any emergent situation. The health department has issued directions to heads of medical colleges in the Punjab, medical superintendents of all teachings hospitals and district and tehsil headquarters hospitals, heads of special health institutions and the director general and director of health services to take effective steps in this regard, sources said, adding: 'They have also been directed to provide efficient medical cover including standby arrangements for medical, surgical or special care expected in case of an emergent situation.' They have also been asked to ensure availability of senior administrators and medical staff besides issuing emergency duty rosters, emergency situation crisis management plans, life saving medicines, vaccines, disposables, linen and reserve beds. They have been directed to ensure that all bio-medical equipment and other machines, patient lifts, standby generators and operation theatres are in working condition. An emergent meeting of the Academic Council of Ameer uddin Medical College/PGMI was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar in which it was decided to place all LGH departments on high alert to effectively deal with any unforeseen circumstances or disaster scenario. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar appointed Prof. Armghan Israr Mirza as Director of Disaster Management and directed to ensure full coordination across all departments to face any critical situation with courage and resilience. Principal LGH also directed the Director of Disaster Management to remain in constant liaison with the Blood Donation Society of Ameer uddin Medical College to ensure timely blood supply to injured patients when required. Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar instructed that life-saving drugs, required blood group stocks be ensured and that all healthcare professionals remain alert round the clock with their mobile phones switched on. He directed that no employee should leave his station without prior permission from the competent authority. Principal AMC also emphasized about ensuring the availability of beds in all wards beyond the Emergency Department, keeping all Operation Theatres and medical equipment fully functional, maintaining standby ambulances, updating generators and ensuring that security personnel remain vigilant following all SOPs. He stated that the country is in safe hands and emphasized the need for national unity.
