Economic Blockade Causes Surge in Malnutrition & Child Mortality Rates

Sana'a – Saba News Agency | By: Mahdi Al-Bahri Years of American-Saudi-Emirati aggression and economic blockade have led to a dramatic increase in food insecurity, with acute malnutrition now posing a severe threat to the lives of children under five in Yemen. The humanitarian crisis has caused devastating harm to children, according to warnings from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO). Malnutrition severely affects a child's physical and cognitive development, especially during the first two years of life. These effects are often permanent, resulting in long-term poverty and inequality. Due to the ongoing war and blockade, the number of malnutrition cases and related deaths among children, newborns, and pregnant mothers has surged, alongside widespread food insecurity. According to statistics from the Ministry of Health and Environment, the number of children suffering from moderate to severe acute malnutrition between 2017 and 2024 has risen to 10,033,318. Furthermore, 180,650 children under five suffer from severe acute malnutrition with complications, and 45% of children under five are stunted (short for their age). Additionally, 5,997,092 pregnant and lactating women were affected by moderate acute malnutrition during the same period, with over 1.8 million women suffering from malnutrition and one million women suffering from anemia. Dr. Anis Al-Asbahi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Environment, told the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the aggression and economic siege significantly contributed to the rise in malnutrition. The difficulty of importing basic commodities at the official exchange rate further worsens the country's food insecurity. He pointed out that the blockade has led to a decrease in overall demand, deepened the economic recession, increased unemployment and poverty, and made access to essential social services, such as education, healthcare, and clean water, more difficult. It also deprived 1.5 million poor families of social welfare cash assistance. According to Dr. Al-Asbahi, around 1.25 million state employees who support 6.9 million people, including 48.2% children, have suffered due to unpaid salaries, further exacerbating malnutrition. He highlighted the rise in infectious diseases, noting that two out of every five children suffer from diarrhea, 60% from malaria, and over 50% from acute respiratory infections. He also pointed out that in some areas, disease outbreaks, like suspected cholera cases, are contributing to the growing health crisis. The spokesperson identified poor food quality and quantity among children as a major cause of acute malnutrition. Less than 40% of children meet the minimum dietary diversity, reflecting a critical lack of essential nutrients in their diets. He further mentioned improper infant and young child feeding practices, with exclusive breastfeeding rates falling below 35% in northern regions and under 25% in more than 60% of southern regions—largely due to the lack of access to health and nutrition services. Dr. Al-Asbahi reviewed the efforts made by the Ministry of Health in combating malnutrition, including expanding community-based treatment programs for malnutrition, opening new centers for managing severe acute malnutrition with complications, rehabilitating nutritional surveillance centers, and providing treatment for all forms of acute and moderate malnutrition. The crimes committed by the coalition through ongoing aggression and blockade against the Yemeni people continue to speak for themselves, manifesting directly and indirectly across all sectors of life, including healthcare. Yemeni Armed Forces: Successful Experiences, Remarkable Achievements in Ten Years: Report

Sana'a - Saba: The Yemeni Armed Forces have witnessed significant qualitative development over the past ten years, achieving unprecedented successes in confronting American and Zionist arrogance, which continues to commit the most horrific massacres and crimes of genocide in Gaza and all of Palestine since the start of the "Al-Aqsa Flood" battle. Despite the American-Saudi-Emirati aggression and blockade, the Armed Forces have been able to build a powerful missile arsenal, confusing the enemy's calculations and shifting the balance of power in favor of the resistance axis, directly contributing to the victory of the Palestinian people and supporting the resistance in Gaza. Since the aggression coalition launched its war on Yemen on March 26, 2015, efforts have accelerated to rebuild the military units the coalition sought to dismantle. However, thanks to God and the wisdom of the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the Armed Forces have been able to regain their cohesion and enhance their combat capabilities. The Armed Forces began restructuring its military structure, focusing on developing missile forces, the Navy, and the Air Force. These advanced weapons were introduced into service, contributing to strengthening the deterrence equation against American, Saudi, and Emirati adversaries. During 2015 and 2016, a series of ballistic missiles were produced, such as the Sarkha, the Thaqib Najm 1 and 2, and the Zelzal, all of which boast high destructive capabilities. In addition, the Qaher-1 and Qaher-2M missiles were developed, featuring improvements in range and explosive power. Achievements continued, with the Burkan-1 missile being manufactured in 2016, followed by the Burkan-2H in 2017, and finally the Burkan-3, which entered service in 2019, marking a qualitative leap in ballistic missile technology. The armed forces enhanced their air capabilities by developing and producing attack and reconnaissance drones, which marked a significant shift in the course of the battle and successfully targeted enemy command centers and military fortifications. In the maritime domain, the naval forces were able to develop their missile and drone capabilities, enabling them to impose a new equation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and inflict significant damage on American and British warships and destroyers. Today, thanks to God and the wisdom of the revolutionary and military leadership, Yemen possesses an advanced military arsenal capable of striking deep into the Zionist heartland, targeting ships bound for occupied Palestinian ports, and tightening the siege on the enemy in the Red and Arabian Seas. Yemeni military capabilities have become a source of concern for the United States, Britain, and Israel, as missile and drone strikes have caused panic within the Zionist entity and forced millions of settlers to flee to shelters. The intensification of US airstrikes on Yemen, targeting civilians and civilian objects, is a desperate attempt to force Sana'a to back down from its support for Gaza. Experience and real-life evidence have proven that Yemen is impervious to conspiracies and will not be broken. It will remain a graveyard for invaders, no matter the challenges. All attempts to pressure Sana'a remain illusions that will crumble under Yemeni missiles and drones. Yemen today has become a formidable force in the conflict. It possesses the strength and deterrence to deliver painful blows to its enemies, protect its sovereignty, and support the nation's causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause. With each confrontation, the bets of the arrogant powers are fading, and Yemen proves that the equation has truly changed, and that the era of foreign hegemony is gone forever. On Tenth Anniversary of Aggression… Yemen Confronts America & Strikes Heart of Zionist Entity

Sana'a – SABA – Report by Yahya Jarallah As Yemen marks the tenth anniversary of the unjustified American-Saudi-Emirati aggression and blockade, the Yemeni people complete a decade under siege and bombardment—an aggression that has been the primary cause of the crises, suffering, and hardships that have affected all aspects of life in the country. Despite the devastation and destruction of Yemen's infrastructure and economy, and the denial of 30 million Yemenis of their right to basic goods and services, the aggression has failed to break the spirit of the Yemeni people or derail their path to liberation, which began on September 21, 2014. The True Purpose of the Aggression: Crushing the Revolution From Washington, the capital of evil and the source of global terrorism, the war criminals announced their brutal aggression against the Yemeni people on March 26, 2015, under false pretexts that had no basis in reality. It was never a secret that the primary objective of this aggression, spearheaded by Saudi Arabia and joined by over 17 nations, including the U.S. and the UK, was to crush the Yemeni revolution that had begun on September 21, 2014. Their goal was to subjugate Yemen once again, restoring it to the American-Saudi-Emirati sphere of influence, as it had been for decades. All the false slogans and deceitful justifications used by the coalition to launch this war were merely a cover-up for their true aim: - To kill Yemenis - Destroy and occupy their country - Eliminate their dream of freedom and independence - Prevent them from building a sovereign Yemeni state However, lies have short lifespans, and over the years, the truth has become clear. The coalition achieved nothing except: - Killing, impoverishing, and starving Yemenis - Occupying parts of Yemen - Plundering its resources - Wreaking havoc upon its land Yemen: An Indomitable Power Ten years of relentless bombing, destruction, and blockade have proven one undeniable fact: Yemen cannot be conquered. These years have also exposed the weakness of the aggressor nations, particularly Saudi Arabia, which believed it could: - Crush Yemen with mercenaries - Buy victory with billion-dollar arms deals - Win the war in a matter of days But the outcome was humiliating for them. Instead of achieving victory, they faced a resounding defeat, exposing their military incompetence and failed war strategy. The aggressors miscalculated badly—they thought Yemen would be an easy conquest, but they were met with unshakable resistance from a people who only submit to God Almighty. Achieving the Balance of Deterrence Contrary to expectations, the aggression and blockade strengthened Yemen's military capabilities, leading to: - Acquisition of advanced military expertise - Development of indigenous weapons production - Transition from a defensive stance to an offensive one - Possession of strategic deterrence weapons capable of striking deep into the aggressor states As a result, the Yemeni Armed Forces successfully defeated the coalition, and Yemen now has the capability to: - Strike any vital target within aggressor states - Regain full control over its territorial waters - End American-Israeli dominance over regional seas The coalition leaders never imagined that Yemen would reach this level of military strength. Now, after achieving a historic victory, Yemen is at the forefront of defending the Palestinian cause, engaging in direct confrontation with the U.S. and targeting the Zionist entity in support of Gaza. A Global Shock: Yemen's Role in Supporting Palestine Yemen has emerged as an unwavering pillar of support for Palestine, defying expectations by directly challenging the U.S. and Israel. It has not only confronted the Zionist entity but has also engaged in direct military confrontation with the U.S., despite its global naval supremacy. Observers and analysts worldwide have acknowledged that under the leadership of Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, Yemen has set an extraordinary example of courage and sacrifice, inspiring liberation movements across the region and beyond. America's Failure: A Desperate Attempt to Save Face Today, America continues its aggression by targeting Yemen's civilian infrastructure and economic facilities, but this is nothing more than a repetition of past failures. The U.S. will gain nothing from these desperate strikes, except further disgrace and defeat. The Yemeni people and global free nations view the American aggression against Yemen as clear evidence of Yemen's influence in supporting Palestine. Despite U.S. and Israeli efforts, they have failed to stop Yemen's strategic blockade of the Zionist entity or prevent direct strikes on its occupied territories. From a Dark Anniversary to a Day of Resilience Thanks to the heroic resistance of the Yemeni people, March 26 has transformed from a dark anniversary into a national day of resilience. It is now an occasion to honor the sacrifices made by Yemenis and to share their stories of triumph despite unimaginable suffering. From military advancements—including ballistic missiles, drones, and advanced defense systems, to economic self-sufficiency in agriculture and industry, Yemen has emerged as a pioneering model of defiance against global imperialism. Yemen: The Graveyard of Invaders For ten years, the Yemeni people have proven their unyielding resolve, drawing strength from their faith in God and their deep connection to their land. History has long known Yemen as "the graveyard of invaders," and this reality remains unchanged. Today, it is evident to all that the Saudi-Emirati-American-Zionist war on Yemen has failed miserably. The aggressors' dreams of subjugating Yemen have crumbled into dust. There is only one path forward for the aggressors: 1. Withdraw from Yemen 2. Lift the blockade 3. Pay reparations for the crimes and destruction they have committed Otherwise, they will continue to face more humiliation, defeats, and devastating losses at the hands of a Yemen that refuses to bow to tyranny.
