Steve Stricker has successful neck surgery, plans to return for 2026 PGA Tour Champions
Steve Stricker underwent disc replacement surgery on Tuesday to address a nagging issue caused by a bulging disc and bone spur, the former U.S. Ryder Cup captain and winner of 12 PGA Tour and 18 PGA Tour Champions events said, via his brother-in-law and agent Mario Tiziani, in a statement. 'The procedure went very well, and I'm already feeling great. I truly appreciate all the support and well wishes,' Stricker said. 'Looking forward to being back and ready for the 2026 season on the PGA Tour Champions.' Stricker, 58, made just four starts this season, and none since finishing tied for second at the American Family Insurance Championship, the tournament he hosts in his native Wisconsin, in June. Stricker withdrew from the Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida, in February and the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona, a month later. He has been dealing with pain both neck and back pain for several months. Stricker has been hinting at surgery for several months and then Darren Clarke, who won the Champions Tour event in Wisconsin, spilled the beans during his winner's speech. "It's touch and go, to be quite honest with you," Stricker said in March during the Galleri Classic media day. "The back is definitely better, but there are a couple other little issues that I'm dealing with. It's not great; it's a little bit better. I'm trying to get some things ... done so I can continue to play." Stricker told that he was dealing with lower right back pain, specifically in his L5-S1 disc, for more than a year. 'I can't twist through there,' he said, 'I can't generate the power.' 'I'll get better, I'll be back, I'll play again but I've got it get better first,' he said. Stricker was PGA Tour Champions player of the year in 2023 when he won the Charles Schwab Cup. He has won seven senior majors, including the 2019 U.S. Senior Open. His last two wins have both come at the Sanford International in South Dakota in 2023 and 2024.

Create Account Els, a former world No. 1 and a four-time major winner, will tee off at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club for the second straight year. He finished in a tie for 10th in 2024. 'I look forward to playing again in Calgary at the Rogers Charity Classic,' Els said in a release. 'It is a tournament known for its deep roots in the community, and tremendous power to influence children's charities to make our communities a better place, which closely aligns with my own goals.' Scotland's Montgomerie was runner-up in his first appearance at the event in 2015 and finished sixth in 2016. 'I enjoy all of the PGA Tour Champions events, but Calgary is a special one,' Montgomerie said in a release. 'The course is absolutely perfect, and the tournament has had a tremendous impact on the community. It has been voted the No. 1 Tour event three times for a reason, and I have always said as long as I'm on this Tour, I'll be participating in the Rogers Charity Classic.' The captain of the Ryder Cup-winning European squad in 2010 will be looking for his eighth Champions Tour title and first since 2019. The Rogers Charity Classic runs Aug. 15-17. MADISON, Wis. — European Ryder Cup captains and teammates Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn won the American Family Insurance Championship on Sunday, shooting a 7-under 64 in better-ball play for a four-stroke victory over four teams. The tournament hosted by Steve Stricker — who tied for second with brother-in-law Mario Tiziani — switched to the team format this year, giving the PGA Tour Champions its only team event. Clarke and Bjorn finished at 32-under 181 at TPC Wisconsin. They opened with a better-ball 59 and shot a 58 on Saturday in a scramble round. The 56-year-old Clarke, from Northern Ireland, won for the fifth time on the 50-and-over tour. The 54-year-old Bjorn, from Denmark, won his first Champions title. Striker and Tiziani closed with a 65 to match the teams of Alex Cejka-Soren Kjeldsen (59), Doug Barron-Dicky Pride (69) and Steve Flesch-Paul Goydos (64) at 28 under. Bernhard Langer and Steven Alker were another stroke back after a 63. Ernie Els, the winner last year in individual play, teamed with Tim Herron for a 66 that left them 26 under.

Jordan Love ‘can't wait' for Aaron Rodgers duel in Packers-Steelers game
Outside of his late June wedding date to tie the knot with longtime girlfriend Ronika Stone, Jordan Love has another reunion on his mind. On Oct. 26, Love will face off against former teammate and friend Aaron Rodgers, who is the Steelers' new No. 1 quarterback, when the Packers travel to Acrisure Stadium for the primetime 'Sunday Night Football' slot. 'It's going to be fun. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited for it,' Love told Channel 3000 during a break in Friday's first round of the American Family Insurance Championship at TPC Wisconsin. 'I can't wait to be on different sides, meeting up, and I know we'll talk pre-game, things like that. And hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.' 'I was excited for him, that he was obviously coming back and going to be playing. 'I appreciate definitely the way A-Rod handled being in that situation, and I think a big part of it — which he told me — was he knew how it was for him being in that same position, and the things that he went through and the way the situation might've been handled [differently],' Love said. 'I think his perspective was, 'I'm trying to go about this a little bit differently,' which I think was awesome. 'In my time with A-Rod, we had a great relationship. It was awesome being in the same room with him, being able to learn. He was amazing with everything. And I definitely appreciate the way he handled everything on the outside with obviously him leaving and me taking over, and he's been very supportive of me [since]. 'It definitely helped with some of the negativity that might've come with that. But A-Rod handled it like a pro and did very right by me.' AP Favre's unretirement in 2008 and showing up at training camp to reclaim his old job led to a contentious relationship between the two. The pro-Favre part of the fan base took out frustrations on Rodgers, which left a mark on the quarterback. Thus, the Packers-Steelers game will have a very different energy to it than the games of Favre facing the Packers with the Vikings in 2009 and 2010. 'He'd been through the very same situation I was in, and he knew what it feels like to be in that situation,' Love said. 'I think that's just a testament to his character and the way he treats people. He was trying to go about it differently than it was for him. And I was grateful for that.'
