Steve Stricker has successful neck surgery, plans to return for 2026 PGA Tour Champions
'The procedure went very well, and I'm already feeling great. I truly appreciate all the support and well wishes,' Stricker said. 'Looking forward to being back and ready for the 2026 season on the PGA Tour Champions.'
Stricker, 58, made just four starts this season, and none since finishing tied for second at the American Family Insurance Championship, the tournament he hosts in his native Wisconsin, in June.
Stricker withdrew from the Chubb Classic in Naples, Florida, in February and the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona, a month later. He has been dealing with pain both neck and back pain for several months. Stricker has been hinting at surgery for several months and then Darren Clarke, who won the Champions Tour event in Wisconsin, spilled the beans during his winner's speech.
"It's touch and go, to be quite honest with you," Stricker said in March during the Galleri Classic media day. "The back is definitely better, but there are a couple other little issues that I'm dealing with. It's not great; it's a little bit better. I'm trying to get some things ... done so I can continue to play."
Stricker told Wisconsin.Golf that he was dealing with lower right back pain, specifically in his L5-S1 disc, for more than a year.
'I can't twist through there,' he said, 'I can't generate the power.'
'I'll get better, I'll be back, I'll play again but I've got it get better first,' he said.
Stricker was PGA Tour Champions player of the year in 2023 when he won the Charles Schwab Cup. He has won seven senior majors, including the 2019 U.S. Senior Open. His last two wins have both come at the Sanford International in South Dakota in 2023 and 2024.

50 for two days now, Tommy 'Two Gloves' Gainey is contending on PGA Tour Champions
Two days after turning 50, Two Gloves is contending on the PGA Tour Champions. Tommy Gainey, known for wearing golf gloves on both hands, celebrated his 50th birthday on Aug. 13, just 48 hours before he teed it up in his first senior event. And so far, so good, as Gainey shot 6-under 64 at the 2025 Rogers Charity Classic. Gainey was tied for the clubhouse lead with Shane Bertsch at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club in Calgary before Steve Alker also shot 63. Charles Schwab Cup points leader Miguel Angel Jimenez later matched Alker's 63. Still, Gainey will start his second round Saturday just a single stroke off the pace. Tommy Gainey won a PGA Tour event in 2012 Gainey played in four PGA Tour tournaments this year, all opposite-field events, and posted finishes of T75, T53, T61 and MC. In his PGA Tour career, he has one career win, the 2012 McGladrey Classic, and three Korn Ferry Tour wins, two coming in 2010 and the third in 2020. Gainey played in only five PGA Tour events in 2024 and was among those who had to go to PGA Tour Q-School last winter but he came up short of a fully-exempt card for 2025. He only made $21,000 in 2024 after missing five of six cuts. His last full season was 2023, where he missed 11 of 16 cuts. But now he's starting a new journey on the Champions circuit and so far, so good.
