Wanted criminal killed in encounter with STF near UPS Prayagraj
Last Updated: Prayagraj (UP), Aug 7 (PTI) A man wanted in multiple cases of murder was killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) near Shivrajpur crossing here on Thursday. Additional Director General (law and order), Amitabh Yash, said the STF received credible inputs that Ashish Ranjan alias Chhotu Singh was on his way to Prayagraj along with an associate to carry out a crime. Acting on the tip-off, the Prayagraj STF laid a trap near the Shivrajpur crossing to intercept the accused. However, upon being challenged, Ranjan opened indiscriminate fire at the STF using an AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm pistol, the ADG said. Ranjan sustained bullet injuries in retaliatory firing and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment, the officer said. The STF recovered the AK-47 rifle, 9 mm pistol, a large quantity of live and used cartridges, and a motorcycle from the spot. Further legal proceedings are underway, the ADG said. Bihar Gangster Killed In Police Encounter In Uttar Pradesh
Hapur/Lucknow: A gangster wanted in a high-profile murder case in Bihar was killed in an encounter with police in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, a senior officer said here on Monday. The gunfight broke out on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, Additional Director General (ADG) of UP STF Amitabh Yash said in a statement. The exchange of fire took place in the Simbhaoli area of Hapur district, involving the Noida unit of the special task force of the Uttar Pradesh Police, along with Bihar Police and Hapur police. During the encounter, the gangster sustained a gunshot injury to his chest and was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to injuries, he said. According to ADG Yash, a significant quantity of firearms, cartridges, and other items were seized. The dead has been identified as Dabloo Yadav, a resident of Sahebpur Kamal area in Begusarai district of Bihar. He was a wanted criminal in a murder case and carried a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on his head. Yadav was the main accused in the abduction and murder of Vikash Kumar alias Rakesh Kadam, the block president of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM party) and a social worker, in Begusarai district, the STF said. On May 24, 2025, Yadav, with the help of his gang, kidnapped Kadam from the Sahebpur Kamal area and took him to the riverine 'diara' region where he was killed and buried under sand to conceal the body, the STF added.

DGP monitors statewide security for Shrawan Shivratri
1 2 L ucknow: DGP Rajeev Krishna on Wednesday monitored security arrangements across the state on the occasion of Shrawan Shivratri, at the UP Police Social Media Centre in Lucknow. The DGP reviewed live feeds from CCTV cameras and tethered drones installed in various districts for the safety of devotees and the smooth conduct of festivities. He interacted with officials from multiple districts, assessed ground-level arrangements, and issued directives to strengthen security where required. The Social Media Centre, located at the UP Police Headquarters, is the command hub for real-time monitoring. The live surveillance setup allows authorities to track large gatherings, manage traffic, and prevent any untoward incidents during the religious occasions. Senior officials, including ADG law and order Amitabh Yash, ADG technical services Naveen Arora and IG law and order LR Kumar, were present during the review. The DGP emphasised proactive coordination among district police units and continuous monitoring through technological tools like CCTV networks and drone surveillance, during major religious and public events in the state.
