Teen killed by poisoned cupcake sent by classmate who claimed it was from a 'secret admirer'
A teenager in Brazil allegedly killed her friend by sending her an arsenic-laced cupcake - and claiming it was from a secret admirer in a bid to 'scare' her. The 'jealous' perpetrator also sent two notes - purportedly written by the mystery paramour - praising the 'most beautiful' 17-year-old unnamed victim. She then watched silently as her classmate Ana Neves fell ill and was rushed to hospital where she died, according to the victim's father, Silvio das Neves. 'After my daughter died, she still greeted me and hugged me,' the grief-stricken father claimed. The two separate notes read: 'A treat for the most beautiful girl I've ever seen' and 'A gift for the sweetest girl with the most incredible personality I know.' In an attempt to trace the mystery benefactor, a curious Neves had sent an audio message to a group chat asking who among her pals in Itapecerica - about 310 miles north of Sao Paulo - had sent the treat and the notes. But there was no response, according to Brazilian news outlet G1. The victim fell sick around an hour after eating the cake at 6pm on Saturday but was initially discharged from hospital that night. Neves returned home for a sleepover with the suspect, not knowing she had tried to kill her. Her condition took a turn for the worse on Sunday when she became ill and fell in her bathroom. Neves' father told reporters that she was dead by the time she had arrived at the hospital, where doctors failed to revive her from a cardiac arrest. 'This girl went to sleep at my house and was there for the whole thing,' Neves said after his daughter's burial service. 'She saw [Ana] feeling sick, she saw when I took her to the hospital and, the next day, she also saw my daughter falling in the bathroom and she didn't show any reaction.' Sao Paulo Civil Police investigators analyzed surveillance cameras near Ana Neves' home and were able to identify the license plate number of the motorcycle courier who delivered the poisoned cupcake. The deliveryman was able to share the address to the suspect's home. The suspect was accompanied by her mother to the Itapecerica Police Station, where she initially denied involvement. She later admitted buying arsenic online for about $11.50 (65 Brazilian reals) and purchasing the cupcake at a bakery near her home. While at home, she added the toxic chemical on the cupcake and then requested the courier service, paying around 88 cents (5 reals) for the delivery. The teen also admitted to poisoning another classmate, 17-year-old Kamilly da Silva, on May 15 because she just wanted to frighten her. She said she targeted da Silva because she had not gotten over her breakup with her two previous boyfriends, according to a statement that was obtained by CNN Brasil. She told investigators she 'did not intend for any greater harm to happen' to both of the victims and that she just wanted both girls to 'experience bad symptoms, such as vomiting.' Da Silva made a full recovery, but never filed a police report. Silvio das Neves could not understand why his daughter's classmate wanted to cause harm. 'My daughter didn't deserve this,' he said. 'She was a good person. She had no vices, she didn't mess with anyone. She was a hard worker.'

São Paulo Civil Police said they arrested a 17-year-old suspect who allegedly confessed to purchasing the cake from a local baker, laced it with arsenic bought off the internet, and delivered it through a courier via an app. The suspect added that the poison was purchased online for just 65 Brazilian reals, or about USD about $11.50, while the courier was paid 5 reals - about 88 cents. She also allegedly confessed to sending another poisoned cake and love note to another 17-year-old on May 15. The first victim almost died but was rushed to hospital and has since made a full recovery. The suspect also told police that she purchased the cupcake that killed Neves from Menina Trufa, a pastry shop. Josielie Franca, who owns the Menina Trufa, said an unknown person walked into the store to make the purchase, but that none of their couriers made the delivery. 'The product left the store and no one knows where it went,' Franca said in video statement via they shop's Instagram account on Monday. 'No words will be enough to console, but we hope that love and beautiful memories will comfort, little by little, the hurting hearts. 'Ana was, and will always be, part of our history.
