Both PM and CM failed miserably to rescue farmers: Tulasi Reddy

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief spokesperson and former Rajya Sabha member N Tulasi Reddy criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for failing to support farmers facing a severe crisis due to low remunerative prices for their produce and rising fertilizer costs. Addressing the media here on Saturday, Tulasi Reddy referred to the unprecedented challenges farmers face, including a lack of buyers for crops like chillies, tobacco, sweet lemon, mango, paddy, and turmeric. He pointed out that the steep rise in fertilizer prices, crop insurance premiums, urea shortages, and the absence of input subsidies have made farming increasingly unviable. He also slammed the coalition government for failing to deliver on its promise of Rs. 20,000 annually to farmers under the Annadatha Sukheebhava scheme, noting that not a single paisa has been disbursed even 14 months after the coalition assumed power. He termed the coalition's 'Super Six' election promises a 'super flop' and criticised the Central government for not providing adequate financial support to complete the Polavaram project, further burdening the state. The Congress leader accused the state government of diverting Rs 2,100 crore from the 15th Finance Commission funds, meant for local bodies, to other purposes. This diversion, he said, has left gram panchayats unable to provide basic amenities like drinking water and sanitation. Congress city president Gowdapera Chittibabu, PCC secretary Venkata Narasimhulu, SC Cell former president Chandrasekhar, and Chandragiri in-charge Lokesh Reddy were present.

APCC chief Sharmila slams AP MPs for silence on bifurcation issues, calls them puppets of BJP

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila Reddy launched a scathing attack on the State's 25 Lok Sabha MPs and 11 Rajya Sabha MPs, accusing them of failing to address key issues arising from the bifurcation. Sharmila alleged that MPs, regardless of party, were acting like 'puppets' of the BJP, prioritising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval over the State's interests. She alleged that they remained silent on critical unresolved promises, including the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. She slammed the Union government for not fulfilling its commitments, including granting national project status to Polavaram. She pointed out that the project was now reduced to a water storage scheme, citing the reduction of its height to cut costs by Rs 25,000 crore. She also mentioned lack of progress on the Kadapa Steel Plant and Dugarajapatnam Port. Targeting the State government's 'Super Six' schemes, she called the free bus travel for women a 'super flop' even before its commencement, citing limited to intra-district travel. She demanded statewide free travel for the women.

Andhra Pradesh MPs have turned puppets in the hands of Prime Minister Modi, alleges APCC chief Sharmila

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila on Friday accused the Members of Parliament from the State of 'being reduced to mere puppets in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, instead of fighting for the cause of the people.' Addressing the media here, Ms. Sharmila alleged that the 25 MPs in Lok Sabha and 11 in Rajya Sabha were vying with each other to support the Bills passed by the NDA government at the Centre, and doing nothing for the welfare of the State. Referring to the promised Special Category Status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh, she said the issue was given a quiet burial with none of the MPs raising it on the Floor of the House. Even after 11 years, the fate of Polavaram project continued to hang fire. The Reorganisation Act had clearly stated that the Central Government must construct the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, but it shirked the responsibility by giving loans of ₹15,000 crore to the State, she said. She further said that the ₹25,000 crore special package promised to the backward regions was not implemented. The MPs remained silent even as the Centre went ahead with its plan to privatise the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, she alleged. Farmers faced shortage of urea, she said, adding that despite knowing that the State faced a debt of ₹11 lakh crore, the NDA government in the State promised unemployment allowance and creation of 20 lakh jobs.

Liquor scam during YSRCP govt fuelled black money: Sharmila

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila has made serious allegations against the previous YSRCP government, claiming that the liquor scam was engineered to facilitate black money transactions by deliberately halting digital payments. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to the media at Gannavaram airport on Thursday, Sharmila said, "In this digital era, it is shocking that liquor sales in Andhra Pradesh were conducted entirely in cash. This was done to hide massive corruption and evade taxes. This is not just a Rs 3,500 crore scam—it is an economic crime." She alleged corruption at every stage, from manufacturing to retail, with branded liquor being phased out in favor of low-quality alternatives. "Why was branded liquor stopped? Why was substandard liquor promoted? This was all part of a deliberate conspiracy," she asserted. Sharmila also raised public health concerns, stating that over five years, 30 lakh people developed kidney ailments and more than 30,000 died, possibly linked to poor-quality liquor. APCC chief called on chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and the SIT to conduct a thorough investigation into the scam and disclose the full extent of non-duty-paid liquor sales. "Former CM Jagan must explain why digital payments were banned in the liquor trade and clarify the motives behind it," she demanded. She further questioned Jagan's silence on other contentious issues, including the Rushikonda land digging and the controversial Viveka murder coverage.

Sharmila slams NDA govt. in Andhra Pradesh for ‘abandoning' Aadabidda Nidhi scheme

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila slammed the NDA government in the State for 'abandoning' the promised 'Aadabidda Nidhi' scheme. 'Looks like the government has already done away with the scheme, which was included in the much-hyped Super Six promises,' she posted on X. Referring to Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu's statement that the government would have to sell Andhra Pradesh to implement the scheme, Ms. Sharmila said the TDP should have known this before including it in the Super Six promises. Under the scheme, the TDP had promised a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,500 to all eligible women aged between 18 and 59. She criticised the ruling party's claim on 'good governance' and alleged that women were being betrayed under the guise of welfare. She said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu owed an explanation to the people on why were women being taken for a ride by his government.
