Granger roundabout at Beech and Cleveland roads set back again due to NIPSCO relocation
An anticipated June 9 road closure to install a roundabout at Beech and Cleveland roads in Granger has been pushed back until further notice. In a June 6 press release, St. Joseph County Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Growth Project Manager Andrew Hayes said the project has been postponed due to Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) failing to meet its commitments. The $3,491,555 project, which planned to relocate NIPSCO underground natural gas facilities and close the intersection at Beech and Cleveland roads with a roundabout construction, was originally set to start June 2, before being pushed back to June 9. The project was planned to be completed by October. The roundabout can't be constructed until NIPSCO completes their project, Hayes confirmed to The Tribune. 'NIPSCO had been working feverishly and they were really doing great,' Hayes said. NIPSCO communicated they'd complete their work by June 2, after which the construction company, Reith Reilly, would close the road and begin constructing the roundabout, he said. At the end of May, the June 2 start date was pushed to June 9 and then delayed again. Hayes said attempts to contact NIPSCO for updates and further information went unanswered. An updated closure date will be provided at a later time, he said, adding that the revised closure date could affect the re-opening of Cleveland Road, between Ash and Bittersweet Roads. The Tribune contacted a NIPSCO media representative but not did not hear back by Friday, June 6. City of Pueblo talks about results of 2A
(COLORADO SPRINGS) —With ballot Measure 2A resulting in a 'No' vote from the public, the City of Pueblo is pivoting to look into other alternatives for the end of the agreement in 2030. Public Works Director for the City of Pueblo, Andrew Hayes said, 'We really want to make sure that we're fully doing our due diligence to investigate other possible alternatives and market conditions.' The City is already having conversations with other surrounding cities about teaming up for a joint municipality. Pueblo also plans to be more informative to the community about the other avenues they are exploring over the next 5 years. Black Hills Energy Vice President Campbell Hawkins said, 'They [The voters of Pueblo] recognize that it wasn't feasible or affordable for the city to acquire our assets for over a billion dollars, and there really isn't a practical path going forward.' Bugle player honoured for long service
Oamaru Garrison Band member Andrew Hayes (centre) with family and friends at the Hakataramea War Memorial on Anzac Day. PHOTO: SUPPLIED An Oamaru man who has played the bugle at Oamaru Anzac commemorations for 60 years and at Hakataramea for 37 years, has been honoured this year. Andrew Hayes received a special presentation at the dawn service at Hakataramea, attended by family and friends. Mr Hayes said he was "surprised" his family were there to support his achievement — but it was not the first time. "They also came to support me on my 50th anniversary, too," he said. Two of his sons, his grandson and three out of four Hayes siblings were at Hakataramea to celebrate the occasion. He also acknowledged Neville Cowles for his 65 years of bugle playing at Anzac services. His brother Vernon Hayes said Andrew was "very pleased and blown away" with the tribute. "I'm very proud of him. The presentation was rightfully deserved." Mr Hayes' first memory of Anzac Day was attending a parade in Hampden at the age of 9 with his father and grandfather. "My father served in the Pacific and Italy in World War 2, and my grandfather served in World War 2 in Sinai and Egypt." It remained important to turn out on Anzac Day to honour their service overseas, and he was happy to see commemoration attendance numbers increase in recent years. Mr Hayes has been in the Oamaru Garrison band since 1963. A euphonium player, he also practises the bugle for up to two months to play The Last Post and Reveille for Anzac Day. His son Colin also plays in the band.
