Granger roundabout at Beech and Cleveland roads set back again due to NIPSCO relocation

Yahoo07-06-2025
An anticipated June 9 road closure to install a roundabout at Beech and Cleveland roads in Granger has been pushed back until further notice.
In a June 6 press release, St. Joseph County Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Growth Project Manager Andrew Hayes said the project has been postponed due to Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) failing to meet its commitments.
The $3,491,555 project, which planned to relocate NIPSCO underground natural gas facilities and close the intersection at Beech and Cleveland roads with a roundabout construction, was originally set to start June 2, before being pushed back to June 9. The project was planned to be completed by October.
The roundabout can't be constructed until NIPSCO completes their project, Hayes confirmed to The Tribune.
'NIPSCO had been working feverishly and they were really doing great,' Hayes said. NIPSCO communicated they'd complete their work by June 2, after which the construction company, Reith Reilly, would close the road and begin constructing the roundabout, he said. At the end of May, the June 2 start date was pushed to June 9 and then delayed again.
Hayes said attempts to contact NIPSCO for updates and further information went unanswered. An updated closure date will be provided at a later time, he said, adding that the revised closure date could affect the re-opening of Cleveland Road, between Ash and Bittersweet Roads.
The Tribune contacted a NIPSCO media representative but not did not hear back by Friday, June 6.
