‘I Don't Understand You' Review: Murder and Mayhem in Italy
Dolly Parton has often joked that gay people deserve the right to legally marry and 'suffer just like us heterosexuals.' That cheeky spirit of equal-opportunity relationship struggles underpins the film 'I Don't Understand You.' Written and directed by real-life husbands David Joseph Craig and Brian Crano, the film follows dads-to-be Dom (Nick Kroll) and Cole (Andrew Rannells) as they make a series of disastrously wrong turns during an anniversary trip to rural Italy that could threaten their chances of adopting a child. Intercultural misunderstandings lead to chaos and eventual bloodshed. If only they'd done their homework before boarding the plane. Like the unhinged 2023 gay comedy 'Down Low,' this movie uses accidental murder as a darkly comic device. Lines like 'What's my hair doing?' and 'I don't want to break her stemware' — uttered after serious transgressions — land with snappy comedic timing. But this plays like a bloated 'Saturday Night Live' sketch, the increasingly implausible plot getting out of step with a sincere story about queer parenthood. In trying to be both subversive and sincere, 'I Don't Understand You' ends up not quite pulling off either. One recurring idea is that Dom and Cole may fear homophobia more than they actually encounter it — self-preservation is their sharpest weapon. Even if they don't realize it, their suffering isn't because they're gay. The couple is suffering because, unlike in queer films of decades past, they actually have the freedom to screw things up. I Don't Understand YouRated R for murderous farce and meltdown-level expletives. Running time: 1 hour 36 minutes. In theaters.

Andrew Rannells delights fans with major revelation about role in Lena Dunham's new Netflix romcom Too Much
Andrew Rannells has revealed that he plays Lena Dunham 's on-screen husband in her upcoming Netflix romcom Too Much, which will no doubt delight fans of the acclaimed television series Girls. The 46-year-old actor is among the star-studded cast of the hotly anticipated 10-part series, helmed by comedian and Hacks actress Meg Stalter and White Lotus star Will Sharpe. The new show will be the first time Andrew has appeared alongside Lena, 39, on the small screen since they starred together in her award-winning show Girls, which ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017. Fans of Girls will recall how Andrew played Elijah Krantz in the coming-of-age HBO hit, Hannah Horvath's (Dunham) gay ex-boyfriend. But in Too Much, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 10, Andrew spilled that he and Lena have leveled up their on-screen relationship to play husband and wife. Speaking exclusively to on the red carpet at the premiere for I Don't Understand You in New York City on Monday night, Andrew recalled reuniting with Lena for the project and shared huge details about his new role for the first time. 'It was very fun to get to make with her,' he gushed. 'We're sort of the grownups now.' 'I play Lena's husband, who is also Meg Stalter's boss,' he continued. 'So, I have like a fun dual role that I get to play. So, Elijah and Hannah have grown up and are now married!' Lena created, wrote, and starred in the HBO television series Girls, which received critical praise and won numerous awards. The series, which followed four women living New York City, also starred Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet, and notably launched the career of Adam Driver. Too Much, created by Lena and her husband Luis Felber, follows Jessica (Meg Stalter), a New Yorker who heads to London in the wake of a painful breakup. 'There, she meets Felix (Sharpe). The pair build a connection that surprises Jessica… but is impossible to ignore,' the synopsis teases. Besides Meg, Will, Lena, and Andrew, the cast also features appearances form model Emily Ratajkowski, Saltburn's Richard E. Grant, and model and actress Adwoa Aboah. Rita Wilson, Rhea Perlman, and Stephen Fry also star. Last year, Lena spoke candidly about why she decided to cast Meg instead of herself in the semi-autobiographical series. 'I was not willing to have another experience like what I'd experienced around [my HBO series Girls] at this point in my life,' she explained to the New Yorker. 'Physically, I was just not up for having my body dissected again. It was a hard choice, not to cast Meg — because I knew I wanted Meg — but to admit that to myself.' 'I used to think that winning meant you just keep doing it and you don't care what anybody thinks. 'I forgot that winning is actually just protecting yourself and doing what you need to do to keep making work.' Lena continued: 'I remember looking at Meg and being, like, "You are my muse. You inspire me every single day to go home and tap out pages upon pages." 'I definitely don't want to be my own muse.' Andrew pictured with his I Don't Understand You costars Amanda Seyfried, Nick Kroll and Morgan Spector at the New York premiere on Monday night Besides his role in Too Much, Andrew stars alongside Nick Kroll in the upcoming comedy movie I Don't Understand You, which hits theaters on June 6. Written and directed by Brian Crano and David Joseph Craig, the film follows an American couple, Dom (Kroll) and Cole (Rannells), who embark on a picture-perfect Italian vacation before their impending adoption but find themselves lost in a foreign land with no cell service, zero comprehension of the language, and escalating turmoil that could explode at any moment. 'I worked with Nick on Big Mouth, that he created, and Nick also plays my character's hormone monster, so we already had like a very nice relationship,' Andrew said of reuniting with Nick. 'So, this was it was nice to get to explore that as humans. I'm thrilled that people like us together.'

Pride season is upon us! It's that time of the year when rainbows dot every nook and corner of the street and members of the LGBTQ+ community revel in a month of protests and celebrations to commemorate all that they have achieved and are yet to deliver on in the future. Whether you wish to march or watch the festivities this year, here are a few spots around the country to get a glimpse of the most colorful Pride parades: One of the most iconic LGBTQ+ rights movements in the world, the New York City Pride parade has long been hailed as one of the finest in the world. The official website for the parade reads, 'NYC Pride's theme for 2025 - 'Rise Up: Pride in Protest' - honors the legacy of the very first Pride March in 1970, which commemorated the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.' The movement is a special one considering it hits the home of where the pride movement started back in 1969. Every year, marching contingents, game-changing grand marshals, local partners, and community allies march in a spectacular celebration of joy amid the fight for diversity and inclusion. The parade will start at noon at 25th Street and 5th Avenue, and subsequently head south and west through the Manhattan region. One of the most engaging and impactful parades in the Midwest, Chicago Pride is a joyous celebration of all things color and bright. 'The 54th annual Chicago Pride Parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from Sheridan and Broadway in Chicago's landmark LGBTQ+ Northalsted neighborhood,' the official website states. 'The parade, featuring 150 colorful entries, will travel the 20-block parade route from Sheridan south on Broadway; then south on Halsted; then east on Belmont; then south on Broadway; then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive.' Following in the legacy of its predecessors, Chicago Pride 2025 promises to be as invigorating as ever. Entry to the event is free of charge. Los Angeles Pride, another must-see spectacle, is the 55th edition of the annual parade and will kick off at 11 AM local time from the Hollywood BLVD. Extra performances, music, and celebrity visits have been planned for the occasion, with actor Andrew Rannells stepping into the role of Celebrity Grand Marshal this year. The event can be watched for free in person or can be streamed live on ABC. The LA Pride Village, the event's performance street fair, promises to be bigger and better than ever before with scores of food trucks, stalls, vendors, and exhibitors to engage with. The theme for this year's pride parade in San Francisco is 'Queer Joy is Resistance' which serves as a unifying message for the community amidst troubling the troubling political climate people find themselves in currently. 'The theme serves as a reminder that the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights is ongoing and that the community must remain vigilant, engaged, and united in its pursuit of justice and equality,' the website says. The event will start at 12 PM at 99 Grove, San Francisco. Tickets are available for purchase at the organization's official website. The Capital Pride parade will start from 14th and T Streets NW and end at Pennsylvania Avenue and 9th Streets NW. Starting at 2 PM, the parade is scheduled to end somewhere around 8 PM at night. Those who wish to march in the parade can read the requirements for a marching contingent on the official website and even bring a certain pre-decided number of floats. Featuring ornate floats, grand marshals, and the vast support of the community, Capital Pride 2025 promises to be an exciting event.

Actors' Equity And The Broadway League Reach Agreement On Thorny Issues Around New Work Development
Actors' Equity Association has reached a deal with the Broadway League on a new five-year Development Agreement, resolving an eight-month strike prohibiting Equity members' participation in early stages of development work. The National Council of Actors' Equity Association, the labor union representing more than 51,000 professional actors and stage managers in live theatre, announced today that it had voted to ratify a new five-year Development Agreement, concluding an eight-month strike against The Broadway League, the trade organization representing theater producers and owners. The Development Agreement is used for the development of new works by Broadway League producers, usually prior to an intended Production Contract engagement. The new agreement guarantees a cumulative pay increase of over 8% for Equity members, achieving the union's top goal for this collective bargaining agreement. Gains also include increased pre-production time for stage managers and the establishment of a joint working group between the union and employers to create a new audition access program. 'Today is a day to celebrate the hard work of Equity's team in getting us back into the rehearsal halls and making some magic,' said Equity Negotiating Team Chair Stephen Bogardus, adding, 'This was a long strike, but it was worth it.' Many Broadway shows rely on the Development Agreement early on, including this season's Boop, Death Becomes Her, The Last Five Years, Left On Tenth, Maybe Happy Ending, Real Women Have Curves, Smash and A Wonderful World. The previous agreement expired last February, and Equity ceased issuing new Development contracts in June. At the time, the League's Jason Laks noted that the contract under negotiation covers only short-term employment in the early stages of development work on projects that may or may not ever become fully-realized productions. The negotiations did not involve any current Broadway or touring productions. This summer, Equity and the Broadway League will bargain for a new Production Contract, the collective bargaining agreement governing Broadway shows.
