One of the most iconic LGBTQ+ rights movements in the world, the New York City Pride parade has long been hailed as one of the finest in the world. The official website for the parade reads, 'NYC Pride's theme for 2025 - 'Rise Up: Pride in Protest' - honors the legacy of the very first Pride March in 1970, which commemorated the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.'
The movement is a special one considering it hits the home of where the pride movement started back in 1969. Every year, marching contingents, game-changing grand marshals, local partners, and community allies march in a spectacular celebration of joy amid the fight for diversity and inclusion. The parade will start at noon at 25th Street and 5th Avenue, and subsequently head south and west through the Manhattan region.
One of the most engaging and impactful parades in the Midwest, Chicago Pride is a joyous celebration of all things color and bright. 'The 54th annual Chicago Pride Parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from Sheridan and Broadway in Chicago's landmark LGBTQ+ Northalsted neighborhood,' the official website states.
'The parade, featuring 150 colorful entries, will travel the 20-block parade route from Sheridan south on Broadway; then south on Halsted; then east on Belmont; then south on Broadway; then east on Diversey to Cannon Drive.' Following in the legacy of its predecessors, Chicago Pride 2025 promises to be as invigorating as ever. Entry to the event is free of charge.
Los Angeles Pride, another must-see spectacle, is the 55th edition of the annual parade and will kick off at 11 AM local time from the Hollywood BLVD. Extra performances, music, and celebrity visits have been planned for the occasion, with actor Andrew Rannells stepping into the role of Celebrity Grand Marshal this year.
The event can be watched for free in person or can be streamed live on ABC. The LA Pride Village, the event's performance street fair, promises to be bigger and better than ever before with scores of food trucks, stalls, vendors, and exhibitors to engage with.
The theme for this year's pride parade in San Francisco is 'Queer Joy is Resistance' which serves as a unifying message for the community amidst troubling the troubling political climate people find themselves in currently.
'The theme serves as a reminder that the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights is ongoing and that the community must remain vigilant, engaged, and united in its pursuit of justice and equality,' the website says. The event will start at 12 PM at 99 Grove, San Francisco. Tickets are available for purchase at the organization's official website.
The Capital Pride parade will start from 14th and T Streets NW and end at Pennsylvania Avenue and 9th Streets NW. Starting at 2 PM, the parade is scheduled to end somewhere around 8 PM at night.
Those who wish to march in the parade can read the requirements for a marching contingent on the official website and even bring a certain pre-decided number of floats. Featuring ornate floats, grand marshals, and the vast support of the community, Capital Pride 2025 promises to be an exciting event.

Ananth Subramaniam: Tamils have a culture of acceptance
The idea behind Pride Month lies in rebellion. The first Pride march was held in June 1970, one year after the Stonewall Riots in New York. For filmmaker Ananth Subramaniam, who believes telling the stories of the underdogs is important, the recognition for his recent film, Bleat! (Kattu! in Tamil), was a shot in the arm. The film won the Queer Palm at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. 'My interest in cinema is passed down from my parents,' says Ananth, who studied architecture for his undergraduate studies in Malaysia. It was in Malaysia that he had the opportunity to make documentaries, albeit in an amateurish manner. Shifting his focus to short films proved to be a better decision. Liar Land, one of his short films, received a special mention in the Locarno Film Festival. His other short film, The House of Brick and Stone, premiered at the Fantasia Festival, which was held in Montreal, Canada. Ananth considers Bleat! as a personal test, especially since he moved out of his comfort zone. 'I was previously making films in Malay. So I wanted to see if making a film in Tamil would work for me,' says Ananth. In Bleat!, an old couple realise that their ceremonial goat, which they thought was a male, is actually pregnant. Talking about the queer elements in Bleat!, Ananth says, 'There is a rigid demeanour to the couple. They represent the conservative ideals you find in parents, with the goat representing a queer child. Queerness comes with finding your identity. It is about the freedom to be who you want to be. Beyond a person's sexual preferences, it is about a queer person's feelings and their quest to find their place in the world. So even though we are confronted with the woes of the couple in Bleat!, the film is about the community around the couple and its reaction to the change in the gender of the goat.'

This Hindi movie to have world premiere at New York Indian Film Festival; director reveals why he chose dark comedy
The feature film Kaisi Ye Paheli, written and directed by debutant Ananyabrata Chakravorty (ABC), is slated to have its world premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), scheduled to run from June 20 to 22, 2025. He revealed they chose dark comedy and murder mystery because to 'connect with wider audience' as they make it 'palatable and accessible' and didn't want to take a 'serious tone while addressing a serious matter'. 'We are addressing a serious matter, and therefore didn't want to take a serious tone. It's only when we make something palatable and accessible that we are able to connect with a wider audience. Hence the exciting genres - so the audiences enjoy the story, before they take home the theme and begin a conversation around it,' Chakravorty shares in an exclusive conversation with The film has been selected for the Competition Section and nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Debut Film. Its premiere will take place at Village East by Angelika on June 21. When asked how the premiere selection feels, the director mentions, 'Maybe the word is validation, but it's more special because we didn't tailor the film for festivals. We could've made it to a good festival by following the usual themes and narratives that festivals expect from Indian filmmakers. But we didn't take that road. Instead, we went ahead with the story that we wanted to tell - our way. Getting recognised by such a reputed festival despite that is what makes it all the more special for us.' Produced by Nishu Dikshit and Take Pictures, Kaisi Ye Paheli explores a lonely mother's attempts to connect with her disrespectful policeman son by helping him solve a murder. It is set against the backdrop of a small hill town in Northeast India and was shot in Sikkim. Chakravorty says, 'We have tried to address loneliness and the conflict between old mothers and their grown-up sons - which we feel doesn't get talked about much in our society and pop culture.' The film features Nadiya Ke Paar fame actress Sadhana Singh, Kaala Paani actor Sukant Goel, and Rajit Kapur, who returns to the screen as a Bengali detective. Chittaranjan Giri takes on the role of a character from the Northeast. "Sadhana is a natural performer. She has such a beautiful motherly charm, and I knew the moment I met her that she is the perfect actor to play the mother in our film - because of the uncanny mix of dignity and simplicity with which she carries herself. I had to put in very little effort towards directing her - just a narration and a couple of sessions on the intentions of each scene, and that was it - she got the character," Chakravorty adds.
