MCOCA court acquits 4 allegedly part of the Anees Ibrahim gang

MUMBAI: A special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOC) Act court has acquitted four alleged members of a crime syndicate led by Anees Ibrahim, brother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar. The four were suspects in a ₹50-lakh extortion bid against a Malad hotelier between July 2017 and June 2018. MCOCA court acquits 4 allegedly part of the Anees Ibrahim gang Special Judge Mahesh K Jadhav said the prosecution had 'utterly failed' to establish that the accused had conspired with Anees and his close aide Chhota Shakil to threaten and extort money from the victim. The court added that the evidence did not prove a criminal conspiracy or the mandatory 'continued unlawful activity required to invoke the MCOC Act. The case relates to an FIR registered on June 22, 2018, at the Malad police station, later transferred to the anti-extortion cell of the police crime branch. According to the police, the victim, a hotelier with business interests in Dubai, began getting calls and WhatsApp messages from international numbers demanding ₹50 lakh. One of these numbers was allegedly operated by the wanted accused Nasir Khan in Pakistan. The complainant told the court that one of his hotel's investors had been murdered in 2001 allegedly by associates of Anees Ibrahim. The accused were therefore threatening to murder the victim too if he refused to pay them. According to the prosecution, among the accused was Ramdas Parshuram Rahane, 49, alias Hemant/Sameer Jagtap, who sent threats and demanded money from the victim. The others included Harish Shamlal Gyanchandani, 51, who allegedly channelled funds through informal channels, Aziz Abdul Unni Mohamed, 62, alias Ajju Rolex, and Mohamad Altaf Abdul Latif Syed, 57, who allegedly represented Anees's overseas network, and Danish Ali Jamaluddin Ahmed, 43, who was discharged and pardoned after he provided testimony against the other accused. Evidence in the case included WhatsApp chats, voice notes, call data records, and alleged recoveries–a pistol from Rahane, a licensed revolver from Mohamed, and digital devices–as well as the approver's testimony. However, the court noted that Ahmed's testimony had not been corroborated, and there were inconsistencies in witness accounts. The court said that the chain of custody for the electronic evidence was unclear, and added that Mohamed had a valid license for the arms he possessed and they were unrelated to the alleged conspiracy. As per the judgement, there were contradictions in the witness testimony, inconsistencies in the voice recordings, and no material to corroborate the evidence. Representatives of the accused argued that the evidence did not establish that the five had colluded with each other or the wanted gangsters. The court agreed and acquitted all five, and ordered their bail bonds to be cancelled, and sureties to be returned.

Diljit Dosanjh's exit from No Entry 2 CONFIRMED, Anees Bazmee reveals shocking details

No Entry was a film that left us in tears because of the hysterical laughter that came with it. So, when the makers confirmed No Entry 2, fans were super thrilled for it. What led to the excitement to reach a notch higher was the reports of the casting. It was said that Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh will headline the film. But all hearts were shattered after reports of Chamkila's star exit made rounds. Now, director Anees Bazmee has spilt some beans about his meeting with the singer-turned-actor. Talking to News 18, Anees Bazmee confirmed Diljit Dosanjh 's exit from No Entry 2. He also confessed to not being upset with him walking out. The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3 directors further added that this is not the first time that he has worked with an actor who wasn't the initial choice of the film. But the fact that the film is getting made is giving him pure joy. Anees exclaimed that he works with a lot of earnestness and leaves the rest to God. On having had to work sometimes with his second and third choices, the director stated, 'Once these films got released, audiences felt that those actors fit the characters perfectly and nobody else could've pulled off those parts the way they did.' Bazmee recalls his meeting with Diljit Dosanjh for the film, and it's proof that both of them really wanted it to work out. The director, revealing about his second meeting with the Punjabi singer, which lasted 10 seconds, said that Dosanjh expressed his concerns over date issues. 'We were discussing his dates because there was a bit of back and forth. He told me that he's trying to work out his dates. Boney ji was also there,' told Anees Bazmee. He also seemed unaffected by every development of the film becoming big news. He exclaimed that whatever has to happen will happen, and that will be good. But has Diljit stepping out of the film soured his equation with Anees? Well, nothing of this sort seems to have happened with Bazmee, who still holds him in high regard and considers him a very honest and talented actor. Talking about their first meeting, Anees revealed that they just sat down for 20 minutes, and the singer did not even listen to the full script. He understood the story and instantly agreed to do the film. Now all eyes are on Anees as fans are eagerly waiting to hear an official announcement of the casting and who will replace Dosanjh.

Anees Bazmee On Diljit Dosanjh's No Entry 2 Rumoured Exit : 'I Never Give Clarification'

Last Updated: Anees Bazmee reveals Diljit Dosanjh had agreed to do No Entry 2 even before he could finish narrating the script to him and that he still holds him in high regard. A while back, reports started doing the rounds that Diljit Dosanjh has made an exit from No Entry 2 co-starring Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor due to creative differences with the makers. But producer Boney Kapoor slammed these speculations and clarified, 'Yes, there are date issues, but certainly no creative differences. That is absolutely false. We are trying our best to work the dates out." But seems like Diljit couldn't clear his choc-o-bloc schedule and now the makers may finally be moving on to their next choice. Now, speaking exclusively to News18 Showsha, director Anees Bazmee says that he isn't 'upset' with Diljit's exit. In fact, this isn't the first time that he's having to work with an actor who wasn't part of the original casting decision. 'I'm just happy that the film is getting made. There's no bigger joy than that. At this point, woh hi ho raha hai jo upar waala chahta hai. I work with a lot of earnestness and I leave the rest to god. It's not like the films that I've only worked with actors who've been my first choices on the films I've done so far," he tells us. Without worrying too much about it, Anees is choosing to look at the silver lining and is waiting to take No Entry 2 on floors 'very soon'. 'I've had to work with actors who were my second and even third choices. But once these films got released, audiences felt that those actors fit the characters perfectly and nobody else could've pulled off those parts the way they did," adds the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Welcome maker. Recalling his meeting with Diljit where the Amar Singh Chamkila actor expressed his concern over date issues, Anees shares, 'Our last meeting, which was the second time that we met, lasted for 10 minutes. We were discussing his dates because there was a bit of back and forth. He told me that he's trying to work out his dates. Boney ji was also there. Since it's a big film, everything that happens makes news. I'm used to do these things and I don't let such things bother me. Main kabhi safaiyaan nahi deta. Jo hona hai, woh hi hoga aur jo hoga, achcha hi hoga. (I never give clarifications. Whatever is meant to happen, will happen and whatever happens, will be for the best)" And this episode hasn't soured Anees' equation with Diljit, who still holds him in high regard. 'Diljit is a very honest human being and he's a very talented actor. In all my life, I've met him for just 20 minutes. The first time I met him was when I went to narrate the script to him. He didn't even listen to the full script. He told me, 'Kahaani samajh aa gayi hai. Aap picture bana rahe hai. Teen heroes hai. Comedy hai. No Entry dekh ke hum kitne hasse hai.' And he instantly agreed to do the film. He's such a simple guy," Anees remarks. First Published: June 03, 2025, 05:50 IST
