Kerala Couple Held For Killing Newborns; Drunk Man Tells Cops 'Bones Kept For Rituals'
Last Updated: Bavin had not disclosed the deaths earlier, but tensions in his relationship with Aneesha, whom he suspected of having an affair with someone else, led him to approach the police The Kerala Police arrested a couple in a live-in relationship for their alleged role in the deaths of two newborns, said officials on Monday. The accused, who have been identified as Aneesha and her 25-year-old partner, Bavin, were taken into police custody on Sunday, they said. The matter came to light when Bavin arrived at the Pudukad police station early Sunday morning, carrying a bag he said contained the skeletal remains of two infants. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time. Based on his statement, an investigation was initiated, and the couple were taken into custody. Bavin had not disclosed the deaths earlier, but tensions in his relationship with Aneesha, whom he suspected of having an affair with someone else, led him to approach the police with the information. During questioning, Aneesha initially told police that the first child, reportedly born in 2022, had died during delivery due to complications involving the umbilical cord. However, she later admitted to suffocating the infant and burying the body near her home. According to police, she allegedly exhumed the remains several months later and gave them to Bavin for rituals. Police said Bavin did not seek medical care during the pregnancies and concealed the incidents. He has been named a co-accused in the case. Aneesha has also reportedly confessed to suffocating a second newborn in 2024 and handing the body over to Bavin, who then buried it. Forensic tests have confirmed the remains belong to two infants. The couple reportedly met on Facebook in 2020 and began living together shortly after. Police are also looking into whether the woman's family was aware of the pregnancies or the births. Thrissur infanticide: remains of babies excavated
A forensic team from the Thrissur Medical College Hospital assisted by the Puthukkad police on Monday excavated the mortal remains of two newborns allegedly murdered and buried by a couple from their house compounds. The case for infanticide was registered by the Puthukkad police after Bhavin, 25, a contract plumber from Amballoor in Puthukkad, Thrissur, walked into the station in an inebriated condition in the early hours of Sunday carrying a bag, which, he claimed, contained the skeletal remains of the newborns. Later, the police took into custody his alleged former partner Aneesha, 22, a lab technician from Nooluvalli, near Puthukkad, also into custody and recorded their arrests. A team led by forensic surgeon N.K. Unmesh excavated the remains of the first baby boy, born on November 6, 2021, from the house compound of Aneesha. As per her confession on Sunday, the baby died due to delivery-related complications. The remains of the second child born on October 29, 2024, were found from the house compound of Bhavin. From water-filled channel Initially, the remains of the second baby could not be found from the site where the body was said to be buried. Later, the investigation team led by Puthukkad Inspector M. Mahendra Simhan under the supervision of Chalakkudy Deputy Superintendent of Police ( Biju Kumar brought Bhavin to the spot and questioned him further. Following this, a water-filled channel behind his house was dug, from where the remains were eventually found. 'The remains will be sent for DNA profiling to confirm that the babies were indeed born to the accused. Though the remains of one of the babies were about four years old, there are now systems in place to gather DNA evidence from old samples,' said forensic sources. Reportedly, the first baby was buried by Aneesha and the second baby by the couple. The two were reportedly in an affair for around five years. Differences cropped up between the two in the past six months and Bhavin turned suspicious of Aneesha. He had made Aneesha to get the bones of the first child from her house compound in the pretext that some rituals need to be done, while he collected the bones of the second baby himself. The accused have been booked under multiple charges, including murder, and sections under the Juvenile (Care and Protection of Children) Act. They were produced before a court in Irinjalakkuda and remanded in judicial custody.

Dark twist in love story: Kerala youth walks into police station with bones of newborns; unwed couple charged with murder
THRISSUR: Police on Sunday arrested a youth and a woman after the recovery of bones suspected to be of two newborns born to them. One of these newborns is believed to have been murdered. The crime came to light after the youth, Bavin, 25, of Nenmanikkara panchayat, walked into Pudukkad police station around 12:30 am carrying bones in a bag. Bavin told police that the bones were those of his children born to 23-year-old Aneesha of Mattathoor panchayat. The couple had exhumed the bones months after the bodies were buried to perform rituals, and Bavin kept them at his house. He went to police after a rift surfaced in his relationship with Aneesha. They were charged under various IPC and BNS sections for murder, concealing evidence, concealment of birth and abandoning a child, besides under the Juvenile Justice Act for wilfully neglecting the child. 'Girl says family was not aware of pregnancy' Police said Aneesha and Bavin came into contact on Facebook years ago, and he used to go to Chalakudy to meet her. On Nov 6, 2021, Aneesha gave birth to a boy in her bathroom. Eight months later, on Bavin's directives, she exhumed the bones and took them to his house, allegedly to perform rituals,' an officer said. According to police, she became pregnant again in 2024 and gave birth to a boy in her house on Aug 29. Fearing social stigma, she killed him the same day by covering his face with her hands and took the body in a bag to Bavin's house on a scooter the next day. Bavin buried the body in the compound of his house, where he lives with his mother, an ayurveda nurse, police said. 'Bavin exhumed the bones around four months later to perform rituals. He hid them in an almirah in his house. Later, a rift surfaced among the couple as Bavin suspected Aneesha of another relationship. He reached the police station on Sunday in an inebriated state,' the officer said. Police have registered two FIRs against the couple. They will exhume the bodies on Monday, besides questioning their family members to ascertain if the couple got support from others to kill the newborns and cover up the crime.
