Ekta Kapoor's iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has finally returned with its reboot version after a hiatus of 25 years. After the premiere of the first three episodes, rumours have surfaced on the internet about Mandira Bedi's comeback in the , who was a part of the first season as Dr. Mandira Kapadia comeback in the show. She played a small but effective role in 'Kyunki', creating conflicts in the Virani family. If the speculations are true, Mandira will be making her television comeback in season 2. According to a source by Filmibeat, Mandira is expected to return to television 25 years. Many fans are curious whether she would reprise her previous role or enter as a new character. However, an official confirmation by the actor or the makers is still awaited. As per the same source, Mouni Roy and Pulkit Samrat, who played the couple Krishna Tulsi and Lakshya, will make a brief appearance in the reboot. The latest episode of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 started with the Viranis getting ready for Tulsi-Mihir's 38th anniversary celebration. The second episode begins with Mihir walking down the stairs of Shanti Niketan, all decked up for the party and his kids praise him for looking fit even at this age. He gives all the credit to his wife, while on the other hand, Tulsi tries hard to fit into her old outfits, but is unable to do it. She talks to herself that she has put on weight which is why none of her clothes are fitting her. Tulsi's daughter Pari body-shames her and also makes her realise that she doesn't take care of herself and that she should learn from her father Mihir. She advises her to care less about others and look after herself. Tulsi requests Pari to wear a saree on the special occasion. Initially, she refuses but she later gives in. Pari rushes out of the room as her boyfriend starts calling her and she gets scared of getting caught by her mother Tulsi. While she is talking with her boyfriend outside the room, she comes face-to-face with Tulsi but she manages to cover up. However, the evening takes a sour turn when Gayatri Chachi's friend makes a harsh comment about Tulsi's weight, implying she doesn't fit the image of Mihir's 'ideal' partner. Tulsi accidentally hears the remark, and though deeply hurt, she composes herself, holds back her tears, and bravely steps into the celebration. As they are about to start the celebration and cake cutting, all the family members realise that Angad is missing and they decide to wait for him. Tulsi gets a call from Angad and he requests her to reach a location as he has got into trouble. Tulsi makes an excuse and lies with the family that Angad's car has broken down and she is going to get him. Upon reaching the location, Tulsi realises Angad is in the police station and is reprimanded by the cops. Tusli approaches the cops and tries to understand the situation. They get arrested due to a car accident. Angad tells the police he wasn't driving under the influence of alcohol. One of the officers explains that a blood test is required and then lets Angad leave. Before heading home, Angad asks Tulsi not to tell Mihir about what happened at the police station. Tulsi feels like he's hiding something. As soon as they reach home, a junior officer updates his senior about a serious accident — but it's unclear if Angad is connected to it. During the party, Mihir gets happy seeing a business partner and his family arriving at the party. He informs Tulsi that he is planning to get their daughter married to his business partner's son. Tulsi stops him and asks him to discuss with their daughter first. Pari overhears the conversation and leaves the party. She heads straight into her room as Tulsi approaches her. She gets mad at Tulsi and blames her for the entire situation. Gayatri Chachi attempts to step in, but Tulsi handles the situation calmly. In a moment of frustration, Pari reveals that she's dating someone who doesn't meet the family's expectations. When Tulsi questions her further, Pari chooses not to share any more. When Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi reboot gave us serious Anupamaa vibes
Ever since 'Anupamaa' premiered in 2020, Rajan Shahi's show has dominated the ratings chart. So when the reboot of 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' was announced, comparisons between the two were bound to after watching the premiere episode of the reboot, led by Smriti Irani, we couldn't help but draw parallels with the Rupali Ganguly-starrer. Now, don't get us wrong, we're not here to declare which show is better. That's for the audience to decide. But several moments from the new 'Kyunki' certainly reminded us of 'Anupamaa'.advertisementTake Tulsi (Smriti Irani), for example. She's always been about caring for her people - be it her children, her husband, or the elderly in the house. Watching her slip seamlessly back into that role immediately brought 'Anupamaa' to mind. The scene where Mihir Virani (Amar Upadhyay) asks Tulsi to prepare his protein shake felt like a deja vu moment for 'Anupamaa' fans. Remember Vanraj and his daily protein shake routine? Little did I expect Mihir to follow Sudhanshu Pandey's character. And thanks to the makers, he did not. READ KYUNKI REBOOT REVIEW HEREMihir, however, doesn't go full Vanraj. Instead, asking for the shake and behaving nonchalantly turns out to be a prank. He later surprises Tulsi with a brand-new car for their anniversary. Phew! But the writers couldn't resist including the health-conscious trope. Mihir proudly declares that it's Tulsi's homemade protein shake that's helped him maintain a weight of 60 kg for the last 38 years. While Tulsi, having prioritised everyone else over herself, weighs around 85 kg. And, this time there is no Payal (Jaya Bhattacharya), Mandira (Mandira Bedi/Achint Kaur) or Ansh (Akashdeep Saighal) to create trouble for the Viranis. In their place, we have Gayatri chachi (Kamalika Guha Thakurta) plotting against everyone's beloved Tulsi, proving that some things never her love for Tulsi is quite evident when she tries to manipulate Hemant (Shakti Anand) against his bhaiya-bhabhi (read Ram-Sita) by calling Tulsi "woh sita hai jo khud mahalon mein rehti hai aur dusro ko jungle bhejti hai (the Sita who lives in a palace but sends others to exile)." If here we have Gayatri, Anupamaa had Baa (Alpana Buch). Hardly saying anything good about her during the initial are also introduced to three new Viranis - Angad (Rohit Suchanti), Pari (Shagun Sharma) and Ritik (Aman Gandhi). Angad is the golden boy of the family, all love and loyalty. Pari, on the other hand, is more complex. She's secretly in love with a mystery man and believes Tulsi doesn't treat her and Angad as equals in the family. Her simmering resentment gives us strong Pakhi (Muskaan Bamne from 'Anupamaa') only time will tell us if 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' reboot will offer its audience something more than 'Anupamaa'.
