See what she had to say about people commenting on her body JADE Thirlwall opened up on her past with disordered eating at the height of her fame with Little Mix. Since leaving Little Mix, Jade has admitted to putting on weight after the pressures put on her to be "stick-thin" while in the pop group. But the scrutiny on her changing body has not eased and Jade admitted feeling the temptation to go on weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro, or Ozempic as is the brand name in the US. "Little Mix fans were all about empowerment and celebrating your body however you look," Jade said in an interview with The Guardian. "Now I'm in my 30s and the healthiest I've ever been, but every time I post a picture, there are comments saying, 'She must be pregnant'... people are used to seeing me in a group environment five or 10 years ago when I was stick-thin because I was in my early 20s with an eating disorder.' Jade added that she did not realise in the moment that she had a disordered eating issue. "But when I look back at photos of periods when I was quite unhappy, I think, 'wow, girlie, you were very, very thin'," she explained. "The pattern was there. Historically, if I've ever felt that something is out of my control, then restricting food has been a means of controlling my life in a very toxic way.' The Angel Of My Dreams singer got so bad around 2017 that her mum and a friends of hers drove down from her hometown of South Shields, near Newcastle. They made sure Jade was eating and getting her to gigs, but taking a break from Little Mix never crossed her mind. 'If you stop working in this business, then everybody wants to know why, and I couldn't be arsed for everything that came with that. So I kept it moving,' Jade said. Jade Thirlwall shares 'personal struggles' to crowd at Radio 1's Big Weekend
Former Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall is closing out the Radio 1 Big Weekender for the first time as a solo artist just months after winning a BRIT Award BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend has welcomed BRIT-Award winner Jade Thirlwall to the stage - and the former Little Mix singer admitted to having 'personal struggles' as she addressed the crowds. Over the course of the weekend, some of the biggest names descended on Sefton Park, including Tom Grennan, Sam Fender, Natasha Bedingfield, and Mumford and Sons. Jade, 32, is closing out the festival with her hits including Angel Of My Dreams and IT Girl. After taking to the stage, fans took to X to gush about the singer as they said: "Jade is the biggest icon to ever exist." Another echoed: "The amount of talent that Jade has is literally unmatched." A source at the event said: 'Jade was blown away by how many people packed into the tent. She was a member of the biggest girl band from the UK after the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud but as her first solo show, she told the crowd it was an 'insane crowd' and she couldn't believe it. "She thanked the crowd, and herself but not swearing. She told fans that Angel Of My Dreams came after she was struggling". It comes after Jade announced the release of her debut solo album, which marks one of the biggest milestones in her personal career since her former band Little Mix went on hiatus. Earlier this month, the singer took to Instagram to share the news with fans, posting: "THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY! My debut album out 12th September." The announcement was accompanied by a striking image of what appears to be her album artwork, which features Jade in four different outfits and poses. This career move comes after Jade has already spent a decade in the spotlight after rising to fame as part of Little Mix, the four-member girl group that was formed on The X Factor in 2011. The band went on to become one of the UK's most successful girl groups, clinching number one singles, Brit Awards, and touring internationally. After the band went on hiatus in May 2022, Jade kicked off her career as a solo artist. She has been extremely successful on her own and already has a Brit Award and a place at Glastonbury under her belt. The news of her first solo album was met with excitement from fans. One wrote: "Bring it on I can't wait!" Meanwhile, another gushed: "EVERYBODY MOVE SHE'S SAVING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY." The artist has teased that her debut record will feature A-list artists such as RAYE, Lostboy, and Pablo Bowman. Jade will also kick off her first UK and Ireland tour in October. She told fans: "This album has been years in the making, so I'm beyond excited that I can finally let everyone know when it's coming out. I'm very proud of 'THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY!' as a body of work and can't wait to share it with the world. To be able to perform the album live later this year is also a dream come true. See you all on tour!" Although she has received support from music aficionados who are delighted by her new music, Jade has recently spoken about the more challenging aspects of being in the public eye in an interview for ITV's The Assembly. The programme features questions from autistic, neurodivergent, and learning-disabled interviewers, one of whom quizzed Jade about what specific pressures she faces as a woman in the music industry. The singer responded: "I'm going to be very honest about this. The thing that annoys me the most, and I get asked the most, is if I'm going to have children, do I want to be pregnant next? Am I pregnant? But I find it really weird people ask that because they don't know what my circumstances are." She continued: "You don't know if someone can't have children, or just doesn't want to, or isn't ready yet. I think it's a really invasive question and I really resent being asked it." Jade also opened up about the public scrutiny she has recently faced over her appearance, saying, "I've maybe put on a bit of weight since I've become a solo artist and because of that people speculate a lot like, 'Is she pregnant?' and I'm like, guys, I've just had a bit of garlic bread. I'm bloated. Do you know what I mean?" While reflecting on her early years in the music industry, Jade admitted that she used to feel like she had "sold her soul," adding: "But as the years have gone by I've learned more and more about the industry. I've been collecting – a bit like Thanos with the stones – I've been collecting parts of my soul back."

Jade Thirlwall reveals toll X Factor stardom took on her as she hits out at Simon Cowell and ITV show
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LITTLE MIX may have been one of X Factor's most successful acts, but stardom came at a cost for Jade Thirlwall. The girlband, Jade, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson, racked up 19 top ten singles including FIVE No1s, since their talent show triumph. 13 Jade Thirlwall feels like she 'sold her soul' to make her dream of being a singer come true Credit: Getty 13 Little Mix, in 2011, from left: Perrie Edwards, Jade, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock Credit: Rex But now she feels like she 'sold her soul' to make her dream of being a singer come true. Jade is one of four celebrities on ITV's new entertainment series The Assembly, where she was questioned by interviewers who are autistic, neurodivergent or learning disabled — with no topics off limits. But Jade, who has embarked on a solo career, was left stumped when one man asked her if she regretted selling her soul by finding fame on the talent show back in 2011. Struggling to answer diplomatically, before comparing herself to Marvel superhero Thanos, she confessed: 'You've trumped me . . . Maybe a little bit in the beginning. 'I was so young and I just signed on the dotted line. 'But as the years have gone by I've learned more and more about the industry. 'I've been collecting — a bit like Thanos with the stones — I've been collecting parts of my soul back as I've gained more creative freedom.' Asked if she thought it was the 'end of Simon Cowell', she continued: 'I think it's the end of that kind of TV show or music label. 'I think it's the end of that era. 'But I don't know if Simon Cowell specifically has ended.' Watch as Jade Thirlwall takes a swipe at Simon Cowell in debut solo single Jade's debut solo track Angel Of My Dreams was a pointed dig at Simon and the music industry. In the episode, which airs on ITV1 at 10pm this Sunday, another inquisitive fan referenced her part-Egyptian heritage before asking: 'Were the pyramids created by aliens?' Suggesting she does believe there's something fishy about them, the It Girl singer said: 'I don't know if I'm qualified. 'I mean, something spectacular made them because if you watch those documentaries, we can't actually explain it right. 'And because they're dotted all over the world, not just Egypt, you've got them in Mexico. 'This pyramid shape, what does it mean?' Alien Hunting with Jade Thirlwall, now that's a show ITV should commission. Gaga has Mex appeal AFTER her triumphant return to the stage with two headline performances at Coachella, there is no stopping Lady Gaga. MARIAH'S SUMMER TIME BALL CAPITAL has pulled it out of the bag for its Summertime Ball with Barclaycard, revealing that global superstar Mariah Carey will headline the bash. The ex Breakfast Show host's slot will be from 1-3pm, after Romesh Ranganathan and before Rylan Clark. Zoe said of her comeback: 'I'm chomping at the bit to be back at Radio 2 HQ with my bag of top tunes for some Saturday brunching with our lovely listeners who I have missed so much, as the protein filling in a Rom & Ry sandwich.' 'And I feel like a lot of people, they get hung up on Juice or Truth Hurts or Good As Hell. 'I want people to really get into the body [of work]. 'I put so much of my heart and soul and time and musicality and, like, musical knowledge and instrumentation into these albums. 'The goal for this album is to be as loved as the biggest hit.' 'They are hoping to launch it later this summer before things kick off work wise for Tom with his arena tour, which is his biggest to date.' TV's One Show presenter Roman has spent the past few weeks hanging out with his sister, country singer Harley Moon, as they took part in Celebrity Race Across The World. The pair secretly filmed for the celebrity spin off of the BBC series in a mystery location where they went head-to-head with other stars to reach the final check point. Tom is gearing up for his mammoth tour, which kicks off on September 3 in Bournemouth. Before that the Little Bit Of Love singer has got a busy summer ahead with a huge performance at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool. Tickets are still available for the Friday May 23 show, with Tom performing alongside Biffy Clyro, The Wombats and Natasha Bedingfield. FORGET C-3PO and meet KP143 – Katy Perry's droid alter ego.
