In a first, trans woman gets heavy goods vehicle licence in K'taka
Mysuru: Anita Prasad, a resident of Bogadi, became Karnataka's first transgender woman to secure a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driving licence from the transport department. She transitioned into a trans woman in 2021.
Anita Prasad, 52, founder of Anita Humanitarian Foundation and co-founder of Vistarik Robotics & Shrijan, has got a flying licence in Germany.
"I got my licence from Yesvantpur RTO on July 31. Now I am helping other members of my community learn driving skills to break the stereotypes associated with trans men and women," Anita told TOI. Anita decided to apply for the licence six months ago to venture into the transport business.

Anita is planning to venture into an inclusive travel and logistics business on the Bengaluru and Belagavi route. Anita holds a PhD in management from YSU California and holds half a dozen various degrees and certificates, including certification in Computational Fluid Dynamics from the Indian Institute of Science.
"This licence is a step towards empowering others to drive their futures. It is not a personal accomplishment — it's a door I intend to keep open for hundreds more. I want trans individuals and women to drive buses, goods carriers, and their lives forward — free from discrimination and dependency," Anita said.
