Where 5-Star Anthony ‘Tank' Jones ranks among Oregon's all-time highest-rated commits
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks scored a massive victory on the recruiting trail, getting a commitment from 5-star EDGE Anthony 'Tank' Jones, the fourth 5-star player they've added to the 2026 class. Jones stands at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 18 player and No. 4 EDGE in the 2026 class. With the addition of Jones, Oregon jumped up to No. 7 in the recruiting rankings for this cycle, and there's a belief that they will continue to climb quickly with more top-ranked players coming off the board shortly. What's more interesting to note, though, is where Jones ranks among the top players and top edge rushers to ever commit to the Ducks. Here's a look at where he stands when it comes to the best EDGEs ever to join Oregon: No. 5 — Matayo Uiagalelei (4-star, 0.9770) — Class of 2023 No. 4 — Elijah Rushing(5-star, 0.9792) — Class of 2024 No. 3 — Anthony 'Tank' Jones (5-star, 0.9897) — Class of 2026 No. 2 — Canton Kaumatule (5-star, 0.9909) — Class of 2015 No. 1 — Kayvon Thibodeaux (5-star, 0.9987) — Class of 2019 While Jones' standing among the top EDGEs in Oregon history is elite, he will also go down as one of the top-ranked overall players to commit to the Ducks. When looking at those rankings, two things stand out at first glance: One, Oregon's 2025 class was loaded at the top, with 5-star Dakorien Moore (No. 2 all-time), 5-star Na'eem Offord (No. 8 all-time), and 5-star Trey McNutt (No. 18 all-time) in the class. Second, Oregon's 2026 class is stacking up nicely, with Iheanacho, Kendre Harrison, and Jett Washington ranking as the No. 4, No. 15, and No. 16 all-time recruits for the Ducks. 2026 5-star Edge commits to Big Ten program over Texas A&M
BREAKING: Five-Star EDGE Anthony 'Tank' Jones has Committed to Oregon, he tells me for @rivalsThe 6'4 255 EDGE from Mobile, AL chose the Ducks over Alabama & Texas A&M'Bama 2 Eugene ScoooDucks' Texas A&M's pursuit of 2026 five-star edge Anthony "Tank" Jones has not ended, but did take a significant hit after the Alabama native committed to Oregon on Thursday afternoon, choosing the Ducks over the Aggies and Alabama live on The Pat McAfee Show. After losing five-star edge Richard Wesley, who committed to Texas earlier this month, Oregon was desperate to land an elite future pass rusher, and likely threw out all the stops, especially financially, to get the job done. For Texas A&M, the Aggies are in very good shape wth five-star edge prospects Tristian Givens and Bryce Perry-Wright, combined with four-star prospects Jordan Carter and Samu Moala already committed in the class. Still, missing out on any priority prospect is disappointing, knowing that Jones was predicted to choose Texas A&M earlier this summer before Oregon made its final pitch. Again, what head coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer have accomplished this summer on the recruiting trail is nothing short of incredible, more than solidifying the Aggies' future pass rush rotation. According to Rivals, Jones is currently positioned as the 22nd-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 4th-ranked edge, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Alabama. Oregon Ducks 5-star EDGE target Tank Jones makes major recruiting announcement
The recruiting trail has gone a bit quiet for the Oregon Ducks after a booming June where they landed multiple 5-star and 4-star commitments. However, it appears that things are about to pick up significantly over the coming days. The fun for Duck fans could start on Thursday, with it being announced that 5-star EDGE Anthony 'Tank' Jones will be announcing his commitment live on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. Jones is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 18 player and No. 4 EDGE in the 2026 class, and he is choosing between Oregon, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Texas A&M Aggies. This recruitment has been one to watch over the past couple of months as teams vie for Jones' commitment. Early on, it appeared that Alabama led the way for the St. Paul's Episcopal prospect, but over the past couple of weeks, more buzz has been growing for Oregon's favor, and there is a fundamental belief that the Ducks could land him on Thursday. We will see if that ends up being the case, but at long last, a decision will finally be announced in less than 24 hours. 2026 5-star Edge will announce commitment 'this week or next week'
St. Paul's '26 5 star EDGE Anthony 'Tank' Jones provided an update on his recruitment. @Tank_Jones251'I'm making a decision either this week or next week.'He's down to Alabama, Oregon & Texas A&M. Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is still in a solid position to land five-star edge Anthony "Tank" Jones, who will choose between the Aggies, Alabama, and Oregon sooner rather than later. On Monday, Jones, who is a slightly projected to land with Texas A&M, provided an update regarding his recruitment, stating, "I'm making a decision either this week or next week." Jones has taken official visits to all three programs, and while he is an Alabama native, which plays in favor with the Tide, his strong relationship with head coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer could pay off in the coming days. During his recent interview with On3/Rivals, Jones praised Texas A&M's coaching staff, specifically defensive coordinator Jay Bateman. "The position coaches are a big reason why Texas A&M is so high on my list and the way Coach Bateman uses the big end position.' After missing out on five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown, who committed to LSU, combined with four-star edge KJ Ford, who committed to Florida, landing Jones would put the Aggies over the top and solidify the program's future depth at edge with four-stars Samu Moala and Jordan Carter already committed. During his 2024 junior season wth St. Paul's Episcopal, Jones recorded 84 tackles, 16 sacks, and 18 tackles for loss. According to Rivals, Jones is the 23rd-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 2nd-ranked prospect in Alabama, and the 2nd-ranked Edge prospect.
