Apple Loop: iPhone Fold Launch Dates, The Apple Logo Mystery, Surprise iPhone 17 Upgrade
The Apple logo is displayed on the exterior of an Apple Store on April 23, 2013 (Photo by Justin ...) Taking a look back at this week's news and headlines from across the Apple world, including a surprise iPhone upgrade, iPhone Fold launch date, the mystery of the Apple logo, waiting for the MacBook Pro, sleeping in silence, and F1 The Movie saves cinema. Apple Loop is here to remind you of a few of the many discussions around Apple in the last seven days. You can also read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes. A Bigger iPhone More information points to the vanilla iPhone 17 upgrading up to a 6.3 inch display. Following on from case leaks last week, this week saw the reputable Digital Chat Station share details on the potential for a larger screen. With the iPhone Plus range set to be replaced by the iPhone 17 Air, there is space in the portfoilio for a larger base modelÛ—especially when the iPhone 16e has the smaller screen: '...the base iPhone 17 is rumored to get a larger display than the iPhone 16 base model. This potential upgrade has been in the rumor mill for months now, but now, yet another rumor out of China corroborates it, so it's getting more and more likely. " (Phone Arena). Where's The Apple Going? There are also intruiging discussions around the location of the magnetic Mag-Safe charging ring and the location of the Apple Logo this week. Sources indicating that the logo is moving means that the stylised apple amy not sit in the centre of the charging ring. For a company known for chasing aesthetics, this is a courageous choice if true: "What is clear is that if the logo moves down, the MagSafe circle will likely need to be replaced with an incomplete circle to offer any kind of visual harmony. Even so, I still believe the MagSafe coil could potentially also occupy a different position in the iPhone or at the very least, the visuals of this would have been front-and-center in Apple's engineers' minds from the beginning." (Forbes). The Foldable iPhone's Potential Launch Date Apple is currently struggling to enter the Artificial Intelligence space, with the idea of 'don't do it first, do it right' proving to be a headache for the software engineers. The same may not be the case for the hardware team, as details on Apple's foldable iPhone point to a 2026 launch—definlty late but with Apple's hardware eye and hubris, an entry that will be called right by Tim Cook and his team: "If everything stays on track, the device could complete prototype testing by the end of 2025 and proceed to the Engineering Verification Test (EVT) stage, setting the stage for a possible launch in the second half of 2026,' the report went on. That means that only two years after the iPhone 16 Pro, we could see a folding iPhone." (Digitimes via Forbes). Wait For The M5 MacBook Pro Apple is expected to launch the M5 Apple Silicon chipset later this year, and with it a handful of new products, including a new iteration of the MacBook Pro. The biggest reason to hold off until the end of the year for this macOS laptop will be the inclusion of said M5 chipset: "While the M5 chipset is expected to be a relatively steady upgrade of the macOS-focused Apple Silicon, that performance upgrade will be keenly felt as Apple establishes its deskbound operating system in a world focused on artificial intelligence. Apple's approach to offer as much local processing of personal data as possible requires as much power as possible inside the Mac." (Forbes). Night, Night, It's Time To Pause A new audio option has been found in the code for iOS 26. The option to pause media when falling asleep will be a boon to those who settle in at night with an audio or podcast until they fall asleep: "The option to pause audio when asleep will save your spot in an audiobook or a podcast, but it should also preserve battery life by preventing your earbuds from staying on all night. Pausing audio should be on by default when you install iOS 26, but it can be enabled by connecting your headphones to your iPhone and then tapping on them in the Settings app. Apple has not explained how the Beats or AirPods detect that you've fallen asleep." (MacRumors). And Finally... Apple's latest foray into the major motion picture system with F1 The Movie is looking to have paid off. With a $140+ million opening weekend, the Brad Pitt vehicle of vehicles may push Apple and other streamers to more cinematic releases: "Whatever the motivations behind this movie, though, the immediate financial success of F1: The Movie will hopefully be taken as a positive so that the streaming giants are more likely to bring their original movies to the big screen first — where they belong." Apple Logo Changes on iPhone 17 Pro: What It Means
Since the iPhone 11 was released in 2019, the Apple logo has been positioned in the center of the smartphone's back. This is not just a design choice but also serves a practical purpose. However, the logo placement is expected to change with the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro. As previous leaks have indicated, the iPhone 17 Pro is likely to feature a wide camera bar that occupies a large portion of the back of the device. This information comes from case manufacturers who receive the dimensions of new devices in advance to adapt their accessories accordingly. Currently, production lines are at a standstill. This is because a modified logo design on the iPhone 17 Pro could confuse users, as it has previously served as a guide for MagSafe accessories. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to have a horizontal camera unit that spans the entire width of the upper back. This design necessitates repositioning the Apple logo, which is now set to be lower, centered between the edge of the device and the camera bar. At least, that's according to information from well-known leakers Majin Bu and Sonny Dickson. Majin Bu cites sources in the case manufacturing industry who have recently learned about the logo change in the iPhone 17 Pro. As a result, accessory production is largely on hold to find solutions for the new requirements. The logo shift on the iPhone 17 Pro also affects MagSafe accessories. Since it previously served as a visual guide for placing MagSafe accessories, the new position could cause confusion. This is particularly problematic for transparent iPhone cases, which make up a significant portion of the market. Previously, the logo was centered within the magnetic ring necessary for MagSafe compatibility. With the new placement, however, the ring would cover the logo on the iPhone 17 Pro. Therefore, accessory manufacturers and Apple are reportedly working on a solution where part of the ring is removed to make room for the logo. Apple's shifting the logo lower on the iPhone 17, most likely to align it with the MagSafe charging coil. — Sonny Dickson (@SonnyDickson) June 30, 2025 This would ensure continued compatibility with MagSafe accessories–even if the magnetic hold might be slightly weaker. The design is not yet final, and details regarding the logo position and MagSafe compatibility may change before the iPhone 17 Pro is released in the fall. iPhone 17 Pro series to get repositioned Apple logo
Apple may be looking to change more than the camera islands on its iPhone 17 Pro series as leakster Majin Bu is now confident that the Apple logo on the back is getting repositioned. The logo on the 17 Pro series would be positioned lower, and Apple is apparently also changing the placement of its MagSafe charging coil, which will now go around the iconic bitten apple. This would be the first logo repositioning since the iPhone 11 series which ushered in the current logo position. There's no mention of the vanilla iPhone 17 or Air models getting the repositioned Apple logo for now. iPhone 17 Pro with its repositioned Apple logo and MagSafe charging coil placement The new report stems from sources in the case manufacturing business, and it was also confirmed by Sonny Dickson, who also shared a render of the repositioned logo and MagSafe charging coil. Apple's shifting the logo lower on the iPhone 17, most likely to align it with the MagSafe charging coil. — Sonny Dickson (@SonnyDickson) June 30, 2025 It remains to be seen if these new rumors will hold up. The physically larger camera island on the 17 Pro series could be the reason behind the repositioned logo and altered MagSafe charging coil. For now, we'd advise you to take these rumors with a few grains of salt. Source

Apple iPhone 17 Pro: New Leak Suggests Startling Change
Apple puts its logo on the back of the iPhone, but you know that, and you can almost certainly call to mind exactly where it sits even without looking. If the latest leak is right, it's on the move. Apple iPhone 16 Pro: will the Apple logo move on the iPhone 17 Pro? The logo has sat in the same place since the iPhone 11 saw it move a little south compared to the position on the iPhone Xs and earlier. There was a good technical reason for the move: the wireless charging ring required precise placement to work, and the logo was moved to sit in the center, to provide a visual assist. A year later, with iPhone 12, this became clearer still with the introduction of MagSafe, with a ring of magnets in the phone and in MagSafe cases, to show exactly where to plonk the phone. Now, according to serial tipster Majin Bu, it will move further down on the iPhone 17 Pro. The report shows images of what it will look like and while there's nothing intrinsically wrong with it being a bit lower, I find it surprising. Not from an aesthetic point of view, but because the report suggests that the MagSafe ring won't be moving, meaning that the Apple logo will no longer sit centrally in the magnets. This seems counter-intuitive to me, and will, Majin Bu says, have a knock-on effect in terms of the MagSafe imagery that appears, for example, on a transparent case with MagSafe magnets. Instead of the Apple logo sitting dead-center in the circle, the suggestion is that a partial circle will be deployed, so as not to bang into the logo. The report shows an image of this and (may I be frank?) it looks terrible. I'm not alone in this. Michael Burkhardt at 9to5Mac uses the word 'bizarrely' to describe Majin Bu's comments about the cases, though he also points out there is precedent to the claim. 'Frankly, I'm not sure whether or not I believe this. It could make sense with the entire top of the phone now being a single camera bar, but at the same time it's incredibly odd. That said, the centered logo placement of iPhone 11 also leaked through case manufacturers having to design around it, so there's a bit of precedent to the leak,' Burkhardt says. My gut tells me that the lower logo will correspond with a repositioned MagSafe coil. As time passes, more case manufacturers will need to make decisions about this, so more leaks may emerge.
