Stepping up for those in need: United Supermarkets, Market Street deliver 1,000 pairs of socks to Salvation Army
MIDLAND/ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A thousand pairs of socks are making their way to those in need after United Supermarkets and Market Street donated 500 pairs each to the Salvation Army of Midland and the Salvation Army of Odessa on Wednesday. The donation, according to United Supermarkets, marks the sixth year The United Family has partnered with Rainier Fruit to support local communities through the 'Apples and Pears on a Mission' program. The initiative runs throughout the fall and winter months, with a portion of proceeds from Rainier Fruit pears and apples going toward purchasing socks for homeless assistance organizations. 'For some, a new pair of socks can make a world of difference,' Joseph Bunting, produce business director for The United Family said. 'That's why we are so grateful to partner with Rainier Fruits to do this program for the sixth year. We are also thankful to our guests for participating and helping us positively impact our community.' The Permian Basin donation is one of six sock donations made across Texas this year. In total, The United Family and Rainier Fruit will provide 5,000 pairs of socks to charitable organizations statewide. Over the past six years, the program has donated more than 30,000 pairs of socks to help those in need. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
